Mae llawer o’n myfyrwyr wedi dweud wrthym yr hoffent symud ymlaen o’r graddau sylfaenperthnasol i swyddi, neu raddau cyntaf, y maent wedi bod yn eu hastudio ar eu cyfer. Rydymyn hynod falch bod cymaint eisiau parhau ar eu taith addysgol gyda ni.

Rydym yn rhoi pwyslais ar brofiad proffesiynol a phrofiad bywyd wrth gynnig lleoedd ifyfyrwyr sy’n dechrau ar eu gradd gyntaf. Nid ydym yn gofyn am unrhyw gymwysterauarbennig. Mae llawer o’r modiwlau yn ein graddau BA yn berthnasol i ystod eang o sectoraugwaith ac maent wedi eu llunio er mwyn dod â chi’n raddol i fyd astudio a rhoi sgiliautrosglwyddadwy newydd i chi.

Welcome from the Vice-ChancellorThe time has never been better to study part-time!

Many of our students have told us they would like to progress from the job-relevantfoundation degrees or undergraduate degrees they have been studying. We are delighted somany want to continue their learning journey with us.

We value professional and life experience when offering places to students embarking ontheir first degree. We do not ask for any particular qualifications. Many of the modules inour BA degrees are relevant to a wide range of employment sectors and are tailored toease you into study and provide you with new transferable skills.

We strive to work closely with businesses so I'm delighted to include details of the shortcourses delivered by Elevate Cymru. This innovative project allows us to provide localbusinesses with access to funded leadership and management courses, which will buildtheir skills and enhance their long term success.

Our fees remain in line with last year’s (to summer 2014). By enrolling this year, weguarantee that your fees will remain at this level for the duration of your degree*. Inaddition, the University has generous bursaries available to help with fees for LifelongLearning students. Go to the Fees and Funding pages for full details.

We fully understand the pressures of studying part-time whilst working and raising afamily. Our dedicated staff in Lifelong Learning, and throughout the University, are here tosupport and encourage you on your learning journey. The University has an impressiverange of learning resources. Graddau Cyntaf

Bydd myfyriwr ar gwrs gradd rhan-amser yn gwneudyr un faint o waith astudio â myfyriwr llawn-amser,ond dros gyfnod hwy o amser. Ceir tair lefel oastudiaeth, a phob un ohonynt yn werth 120 ogredydau ac yn cyfateb i astudiaeth ar flwyddyn 1,blwyddyn 2 neu flwyddyn 3 lefel gradd. Ar bobcyfnod, gall myfyrwyr ymadael gyda chymwysterauAddysg Uwch. Mwy o wybodaeth ar dudalen 52.

Mae gan raddau rhan-amser strwythur fodiwlaiddsy’n eich galluogi i weithio ar eich cyflymdra eichhunain. Mae’r modiwlau fel arfer yn 10 neu 20 credyda byddwch fel arfer yn dilyn hyd at dri modiwl 10credyd bob semester. Mae'r rhan fwyaf o fyfyrwyr yncwblhau gradd mewn 5 mlynedd.

Nid oes raid i chi gael unrhyw gymwysterau arbennigi wneud cais am un o'r graddau rhan-amser. Dylaimyfyrwyr sydd am wneud cais ar gyfer Celf Gaincysylltu â ni am gyfarwyddyd cyn ymgeisio. Maeprofiad proffesiynol a sgiliau a ddatblygwyd yn ygwaith a gartref yn cael eu hystyried wrth benderfynua fyddwn yn cynnig lle i chi. First Degrees

A student on a part-time degree will do the sameamount of studying as a full time student, but spreadover a longer period of time. There are three levels ofstudy, each worth 120 credits and equivalent to first,second or third year study at degree level. At eachstage students may exit with Higher Educationqualifications. Futher details on page 53.

Part-time degrees have a modular structure, whichmeans that you can work at your own pace. Modulesare usually 10 or 20 credits and, generally, up tothree 10 credit modules are studied over onesemester. Most students can expect to complete adegree in 5 years. You do not need any particular qualifications to applyfor our part- time degrees. Students applying for FineArt are advised to contact us in the first instance forguidance. Professional experience and skillsdeveloped at work or in the home will be taken intoaccount when deciding whether to offer you a place.In general we would expect to offer a place to anyonewhom we feel would benefit from studying a degreeand can demonstrate that they are able to study athigher education level. The School offers return tostudy advice, guidance and support to all applicants.

This year the fees remain in line with last year’s. Byenrolling this year, we guarantee that your fees willremain at the same level for the duration of the coursebut fees may rise in line with inflation.

Postgraduate Courses

We have a range of postgraduate courses, aimed bothat working people looking for career development andthose wishing to study a subject at a more advancedlevel. Applicants must have either an initial degree, arecognised equivalent qualification or be over 25 yearsof age with at least two years relevant experience. Byddwch yn gwneud hyndrwy gyfuno modiwlau thematig,rhyngddisgyblaethol a phenodol i bwnc. Un oegwyddorion canolog y rhaglen yw bodastudiaeth systematig o’r dyniaethau yn rhoihyfforddiant ardderchog ar gyfer datblygu sgiliautrosglwyddadwy megis meddwl yn greadigol a

chyfathrebu – sy’n werthfawr ar gyfer datblygiadpersonol a chyflogadwyedd.

Bydd gan fyfyrwyr hefyd gyfle unigryw ymMlwyddyn 2 i ddewis gwneud cwrs Hanes neuSaesneg llawn amser yn y Brifysgol osdymunir.

BA Celf Gain Mae’r radd hon yn ymwneud ag ystod eang oddiddordebau creadigol ar y sail bod ymarferwyrproffesiynol heddiw yn elwa ar arbenigedd mewngwahanol gyfryngau. Bwriad camau cynnar ycwrs yw meithrin sgiliau a gwybodaeth yn barodi ddatblygu dull cynyddol annibynnol o feddwl achreu creadigol. Wrth i'r cwrs fynd yn ei flaencaiff myfyrwyr gyfle i ddatblygu eu gwybodaetha’u dealltwriaeth o ymarfer celfyddyd gain ac iennill sgiliau a hyder i wella eu potensialcreadigol y tu hwnt i’r cwrs. Mae'r radd wedi'iseilio ar ymarfer ac fel rheol mae'n cymryd chweblynedd o astudio rhan-amser i'w chwblhau gydachymwysterau mynediad ar bob lefel. BA Astudiaethau CymdeithasolMae’r radd hon i bobl sydd eisiau dysgu amfaterion cymdeithasol o bwys, ac mae'ncymhwyso theorïau a chysyniadau academaidd atastudiaeth feirniadol a dadansoddol oddigwyddiadau, prosesau a sefydliadau yn y bydsydd ohoni. Bydd yn gymorth ichi ddatblyguamrywiaeth o sgiliau y mae cyflogwyr yn chwilioamdanynt megis sgiliau ymchwil, creadigrwydd,ymwybyddiaeth ryngbersonol, sgiliau ysgrifennua sgiliau llafar, sgiliau trefnu a gweithio mewntîm. Gallwch ddewis modiwlau seicoleg,cymdeithaseg a hanes, yn ogystal ag astudio nifero fodiwlau rhyngddisgyblaethol fydd yn gymorthichi weld cysylltiadau rhwng y gwahanolddisgyblaethau. Cewch hefyd gyfle i ddatblygueich diddordebau penodol trwy ymchwilio acysgrifennu traethawd hir ar lefel 5 a 6.

BA AstudiaethauSeicogymdeithasol Ym MaesDefnyddio SylweddauNod y cwrs gradd arloesol hwn yw cynnig profiadaddysgol o'r ansawdd gorau i fyfyrwyr ynghyd âthrosolwg cynhwysfawr ar ddefnyddiosylweddau a bod yn gaeth i sylweddau. Mae hwnyn gwrs cydweithredol unigryw a ddatblygwyd ary cyd â sefydliad CAIS. Gweler tudalen 18 amragor o wybodaeth.

Graddau Israddedig

BA Combined StudiesThis degree allows students a great deal offlexibility in choosing what they wish to study.There are various established pathways throughthe degree, and students are given detailedadvice on how to plan their scheme of study sothat their combination of subjects isacademically coherent and well structured, butwithin those parameters there is a good deal ofchoice over which modules to take. There arealso opportunities to develop particular interestsof your own in more detail through researchingand writing dissertations at levels 5 and 6. Thisdegree often appeals to potential students whoalready have some Higher Educationqualifications such as a foundation degree orcredits earned as part of an uncompleted degreeat either Bangor or another University, and whowish to top them up to a full degree.

BA HumanitiesThis Humanities degree programme providesstudents with the opportunity to study three mainsubjects areas – English Literature, History andPhilosophy. It will do this through a combinationof themed, interdisciplinary and subject specificmodules. The study of the humanities providesexcellent training for the development oftransferable skills such as critical thinking and

communication which are valuable both forpersonal development and employability.

Students will also have an unique opportunity inYear 2 to opt into a full time History or Englishcourse at the University if desired.

BA Fine ArtThe BA (Hons) Fine Art degree engages with avery broad range of creative interests on thebasis that professional practitioners todaybenefit from expertise in a range of media. Theearly stages of the course are designed to buildskills and knowledge ready to develop anincreasingly independent approach to creativethinking and making. As the course progressesstudents have the opportunity to develop theirunderstanding of fine art practice and acquireconfidence to further their creative potentialbeyond the course. The degree is practice basedand normally takes six years of part time studyto complete with exit awards at each level. Foradmission, you may be called on to attend a briefinformal interview bringing with you a portfolioof recent work. Normally students admitted tothe course have completed our Preparationcourse or equivalent.

BA Social StudiesThis degree is for those who would like to engagewith major issue of concern for society, applyingacademic theories and concepts to the criticaland analytical study of events, processes andinstitutions in the world. It will help you todevelop a range of proficiencies which are highlyvalued by employers such as research skills,creativity, interpersonal awareness, written andoral skills, self organisation and team working.You will be able to choose modules in psychology,sociology and history as well as following anumber of interdisciplinary modules which helpto make connections between the variousdisciplines. There are also opportunities todevelop particular interests of your own throughresearching and writing dissertations at levels 5and 6.

BA Psychosocial Studies In Substance UseThis innovative degree programme aims to pro-vide students with the highest quality educationalexperience alongside a comprehensive overviewof the substance use and addictions field. This isan unique collaborative programme developedwith the CAIS Organisation. Please see page 18for more information.

Mae’r rhaglen lwyddiannus hon wedi ei chynllunioar gyfer y rhai sydd yn neu’n cynllunio gweithioyn y sectorau cymunedol, cyhoeddus a gwirfoddoli ddatblygu a gwella eu dealltwriaeth o’r theorïau,prosesau ac ymarfer datblygu cymunedol.

Mae adfyfyrio beirniadol ac ymchwil seiliedig arymarfer wrth wraidd y gweithgareddau dysgu.Mae’r cynnwys yn adlewyrchu’r SafonauGalwedigaethol Cenedlaethol ac yn cael eiddarparu gan diwtoriaid academaidd acymarferwyr ac yn cynnwys cyfres o seminaraugwadd gan fodau allweddol y maes.

Mae ymweliadau astudio yn rhan allweddol o’rdysgu a chreu a chynnal rhwydweithiau ac yncynnwys ymweliadau i Iwerddon, Maiorca aPhortiwgal yn ogystal â lleoliadau ledled Cymru!

MA AstudiaethauMenywod

Mae Astudiaethau Menywod yn bwnc digonunigryw sy’n herio strwythurau traddodiadol owybodaeth ynglŷn â gender, a hefyd y ffyrddarferol y byddwn yn dysgu. Mae ganddo enw dadros fod yn ysgogol, yn ddeallusol ac ynberthnasol – yn ymarferol, yn ogystal â bod ynhygyrch i fenywod o bob cefndir a diddordebauamrywiol.

Mae’n tynnu ar lawer o ddisgyblaethau yncynnwys cymdeithaseg, llenyddiaeth, hanes,seicoleg a gwleidyddiaeth. Mae’n cydnabodgwerth profiadau byw merched ac yn annogadfyfyrio ar y rhain mewn perthynas â syniadaudamcaniaethol sy’n croesi ffiniau disgyblaethol.

MA Celfyddyd GainNEWYDD

Mae’r MA Celfyddyd Gain yn adeiladu ar y rhaglenisraddedig lwyddiannus sydd ar gael eisoes, ganalluogi i chi symud ymlaen i lefel uwch drwyastudio modiwlau’n rhan-amser.

Bwriad y rhaglen yw eich galluogi i astudio drosgyfnod sylweddol a’ch helpu i adolygu, newid,datblygu a chryfhau eich safle fel arlunydd gydagymarfer adfyfyriol wedi’i seilio ar ymchwil fel ystrategaeth ddysgu ganolog.

Cefnogir eich ymchwil gan gyfarwyddydgoruchwyliol, tiwtorialau, mentora, seminarau,darlithoedd gwadd, astudiaethau achos a dysgugyda grŵp o gyfoedion. Bydd hyn i gyd yn rhoiamgylchedd beirniadol i’ch paratoi at ymarferproffesiynol pellach yn y diwydiannau creadigol.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES 2014

MA (PG Cert/Dip) Community Development

This highly successful programme is designed forthose working/planning to work in thecommunity, public and voluntary sectors todevelop and enhance their understanding of thetheories, processes and practice of communitydevelopment.

Women’s Studies is in many ways a uniquesubject which challenges traditional structuresof knowledge about gender and about the usualways in which we learn. According to the Trades Union Congress (May2010), “the use of drugs and alcohol can be aserious workplace issue. Not only can theiruse lead to significant health problems butanyone under the influence of drugs or alcoholcan be a hazard to themselves and others.Many drugs can also have psychologicaleffects that can affect performance or mentalwellbeing, especially after long-term use or ifa dependency develops. There are also legalissues to consider.”

This module aims to raise awareness of theseissues, discuss legal/illegal issues andinvestigate some of the existing drug andalcohol policies which aim to protect andsupport employers and employees.

About CAIS CAIS is a registered charity and leadingvoluntary sector provider of drug andalcohol services in Wales. We helppeople who are having problems withtheir alcohol or drug use, as well asoffering support and information totheir families and friends.

About the CourseThe course reflects the broad scope ofcurrent policy and related workforceeducational need. It adopts theexpression substance use, rather thanmisuse, abuse or specific reference toalcohol or drugs, to acknowledgeapproaches that respond to a) bothharm prevention of the generalpopulation as well as treatment ofindividuals and b) the possibility oflegal, illicit and illegal use of a range oflegal, prescribed and illegalsubstances.

It will support the needs of individualswishing to embark on a working career inthe field of Substance use/misusesupport and for those currently workingwithin the field who need to develop theircareer portfolio and expand theirknowledge, skills and understanding. Itwill also have appeal to the widerworkforce of professionals andvolunteers whose role may include eithera pastoral or people managementelement, as for example social orprobation workers, police workers, schoolteachers, members of the clergy, prisonworkers, personnel managers,administrators and community workers.

Entry level modules (L4) are taught at theCAIS premises in Colwyn Bay and L5/L6provision is taught at Lifelong Learning,Bangor University. Teaching staff andcurriculum advisors include universityacademics and professional practitionersworking in the field.

The programme is mapped to the relevantDrug and Alcohol National OccupationalStandards (DANOS).

The programme is flexible and it ispossible to study bite-sized stand-alonemodules for CPD needs. See page 15 forinformation on Bite-sized learning.

Which level?Beginners: You are a complete beginner,knowing virtually nothing of the language. Youwill develop competence in a range ofpredictable simple everyday language tasks.The course will provide a very basicknowledge of the structure and vocabulary ofthe language.

Beginners Plus: You may have studied thelanguage at school some years ago orattended a beginners’ course. You have a verylimited vocabulary and some understanding ofbasic structures. The course will introducenew tenses and help you to communicate ineveryday social or work situations.

Intermediate Plus: You have a reasonablefoundation in the language at school level,possibly to ‘O’/GCSE level or equivalent. Youcan deal with most common ‘survival’situations confidently. You now want to startmoving beyond merely practising simpleexchanges during your holiday abroad,learning to cope in non-routine situations.

Advanced Plus: You have acquired a goodvocabulary and a good understanding ofgrammatical rules. The need for innovation and changemanagement in your business will be examinedand you will explore and develop your role inleading and managing innovation and change.You will have an opportunity to generate ideasand propose solutions to improveorganisational performance.

Want to learn Welsh?Over the last 40 years we have developed an exciting and effective programme foradult learners of Welsh. Tens of thousands of students have benefited from the com-bination of carefully graded courses, highly experienced and committed tutors andfirst class back-up services. The Welsh for Adults Centre’s courses are available day-time and evening.

We offer 6 levels of class providing the learner with a clear progression route. If youalready know some Welsh, you are welcome to join any of our current courses on themost appropriate level.

New courses for beginners, following the acclaimed WLPAN method, will start atmany centres during September and October.

How Our Qualifications Work

Lifelong Learning CertificatesThe Lifelong Learning Certificate is for thoseachieving 60 Higher Education credits at level 4.A list of possible certificates can be found on ourwebsite and a certificate will be awarded forachieving at least 40 credits in a specific subjectarea together with 20 credits in a related area.On completion of this certificate, we encourageyou to proceed to the full HE Certificate thatequates to the first year of a degree course.

Higher Education (HE) CertificatesA module can be studied on its own, or you maydecide to continue your studies and move on tocomplete a Higher Education Certificate. It ispossible to choose your own programme ofstudies to achieve a Certificate in Open Studiesor you may prefer to study towards a namedCertificate, for example a Certificate in Fine Art,Certificate in Personal & Professional Skills or aCertificate in Community Development. Certifi-cates are made up of 120 credits at Level 4,which is equivalent to the first year of a full timeUniversity degree.

Named certificates are made up of core and op-tional modules. No prior qualifications areneeded to register for a certificate apart fromthe Certificate in Fine Art for which there arecertain pre-requisites. All part-time students areallowed to register for a maximum of 90 creditsin one academic year and can gain a certificatein three semesters (about 18 months).

You can also build up your credits gradually andtake up to five years to achieve a named Certifi-cate. It may be worth bearing in mind that thereare a number of new means tested schemes forpart-time students who are considering studyingfor at least 60 credits in one academic year. (Seepage 41).

Higher Education Diplomas & DegreesOnce you've completed a HE Certificate you maydecide to continue your studies at a higher level.Diploma courses are at Level 5 (equivalent to thesecond year of a full time degree). Students willnormally have successfully completed a certifi-cate before embarking on a Diploma. As with thenamed Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees havea set structure, with core modules that you mustcomplete and optional modules which you canchoose from. After completing the Diploma level,students can move on to Degree level - Level 6.

Student Withdrawal and RefundsIf you withdraw, written notification must bereceived at least 5 working days prior to thebeginning of the course so that we can processyour refund. You can receive a refund if youwithdraw after your first session provided that yousend written notification. Should you withdrawafter the second or any subsequent sessions youwill not be eligible for a refund. Please note, all

refunds are subject to a £10 administrationcharge (except for refunds where the course iscancelled), and at busy periods may take up tofour weeks to process.

Part-time Student Discretionary Bursary

You may be eligible to apply for a contribution towardsyour course fees. They are not usually available tothose undertaking postgraduate courses, butpostgraduates can apply. Personal circumstances andwhether or not you are in receipt of other sources offunding will be taken into account when allocating thebursaries. If eligible, you could be allocated a bursarywhich may be worth up to 75% of your course fees.

HEFCW Fee Waiver Scheme*:

and do not already have a degree, you can applydirectly to the University for a HEFCW fee waiver if youare studying on an accredited course or module.

This scheme can only fund up to 40 credits peracademic year.

Local Authority Grants

If you are intending to complete a Higher Education Cer-tificate, Diploma or Honours Degree and are committedto studying a minimum of 60 and a maximum of 90credits in one academic year (Sept-July) you could be el-igible for financial help towards your fees and othercosts related to your course.

How much you may get depends on your personal cir-cumstances and the type of course you wish to study:

• fee grants (to pay in full or to help with tuitionfees - normally up to £1000),

• course grant (to help with study costs such asbooks, course materials and travel) of up to£1125 depending on your financial circumstances.

You do not have to repay this help. Students who alreadyhave a degree cannot normally apply for this support.There is no age limit. You are advised to check with yourLocal Education Authority* for further information.

University Hardship Fund

The Hardship Fund provides financial help to studentswho face difficulty in meeting their living costs forwhatever reason, whether it is due to their personal cir-cumstances (e.g. disabled students), or because theyfall into hardship unexpectedly. Assistance is given inthe form of a non-repayable grant.

To be eligible for the Hardship Fund a student must beregistered on a part-time course equivalent to 50% ormore of a full time course at either undergraduate orpostgraduate level.

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)

How much DSA you can get does not depend on your in-come or that of your family and you do not have torepay the allowance. There is no age limit.

Financial Support for Part-timeStudents

If you are intending to study a part-time highereducation Certificate, Diploma or Honours Degree andare committed to studying a minimum of between 60and 80 credits in one academic year (Sept-July)financial help is available towards your fees and othercosts related to your course.

How much you can get each year depends on yourhousehold income and whether you have a spouse,partner or children.

• Tuition fee grant (to help with tuition fees)

• Course grant (to help with study costs such as books,materials and travel) up to £1,155

• Other grants are available if you have dependentchildren and/or if you have an adult who is financiallydependent on you.

To apply for the above funding, your course must last atleast one year (equivalent to 60 credits) and not takemore than twice as long to complete as an equivalentfull-time course.

You do not have to repay this help. Students whoalready have a degree cannot normally apply for thissupport. There is no age limit.
