in die verwesenliking van VVA se misie,naamlik die versorging, ontwikkeling en be-magtiging van mense in nood.

Die keuse om vrywillige werk te doen is’n voorreg wat vir almal beskore is, ongeagagtergrond, ouderdom, ras, geslag, geloof enopvoedkundige kwalifikasies. Deur aan tesluit by Vrystaat Versorging in Aksie, kan ’ngroot verskeidenheid mense van waarde ennut wees vir die gemeenskap.

Die rol van die vrywilliger loop soos ’ngoue draad deur die aktiwiteite van die ver-eniging. Maatskaplike werkers en ander per-soneel se hande word gesterk deur die betrok-kenheid van vrywilligers waarsonder gehaltediens feitlik onmoontlik sou wees, en hulledienste is onontbeerlik en vorm die ruggraatvan die VVA deur die hele Vrystaat.

Die VVA Parys-tak is bevoorreg om ver-skeie vrywilligers te hê wat nie omgee omlang ure op hul voete te staan en pannekoekbak vir fondsinsamelings nie, wat met vreug-de help tydens die jaarlikse broodjie-dae, wathelp kospakkies pak, wat in die klerewinkelwerk, of hul kundigheid aanwend op andermaniere.

Een van die vrywilligers wat al sedert 1986aan die tak behoort en wat verskeie jare opdie bestuur gedien het, is die 85-jarige Reginavan Heerden. Regina was vir 44 jaar ’n lidvan VVA. Sy het gedurende Julie 2012 uitdie bestuur bedank, maar het tot onlangs nogvrywillige werk gedoen.

Sy verhuis egter nou na Pretoria om by haarkinders te gaan woon. Vir haar sal die VVAaltyd ’n sagte plekkie in haar hart hê en syhoop dat daar jonger persone sal aansluit omhaar plek te vul.

Nog een van die vrywilligers wat vir 17jaar as maatskaplike werker in diens van dieVVA was, is Anna Deale, wat ook 85 jaaroud is. Sy woon nou in Amot, maar die brei-en hekelpen klik onophoudelik soos sy breien hekel aan truitjies vir behoeftige kinders.

Ouderdom speel geen rol wanneer jy asvrywilliger wil werk nie. ’n Vrywilliger ver-rig ’n taak uit eie keuse sonder vergoeding.Deur jou tyd, kennis en kundigheid aan tewend, en die bevrediging om te weet dat ditwat jy doen, ’n verskil in mense se lewensmaak, behoort genoeg te wees.

Die taakspan wat die vyfjaar Regrukplan virNgwathe Plaaslike Munisipaliteit moet im-plementeer, is wel verlede Donderdag krag-tens ’n vroeëre hofbevel saamgestel en salop 2 Desember weer bymekaar kom.

Die taakspan bestaan uit twee provinsialeverteenwoordigers en die departementshoofvan Samewerkende Regering in die Vrystaat

provinsie, die Ngwathe Plaaslike munisipa-liteit se munisipale bestuurder, mnr. LuckyKamolane, en die tegniese direkteur, mnr.Tshabalala, twee verteenwoordigers van dieParys Besigheid- en Ontwikkelingsforum,mnre. Marius Pieters en Saal de Jager, ’nverteenwoordiger van Morar Ouditeursfir-ma, en ’n verteenwoordiger van die konsul-

tant wat deur die provinsie aangestel is omdie munisipale infrastruktuur te verbeter.

Dié taakspan sal moet toesien dat diemeestersplanne vir die omkeerstrategie omin te gryp in munisipale finansiële bestuur,en die verbetering van dienslewering, suk-sesvol geïmplementeer word oor ’n vyfjaartermyn.

Een van die kwessies wat indringend salaandag geniet is hoe Ngwathe sy agterstalli-ge Eskom-skuld gaan betaal en gaan toesiendat sy verliese uit elektrisiteitsverkope aan-gespreek word.

Ngwathe moet nou op 20 November dievereiste verslae en papierwerk soos deur diehofbevel bepaal, aan die taakspan voorlê.

Deur Heilie Bolougne:Die Volvo Eienaarsklub van Suid-Afrika het Parys die

afgelope naweek besoek met ’n ontbytrit op Sondag 9 No-vember. Die klub se hoofdoel is om uit te reik na anderklubs en die behoudvan die Volvo motoren sy geskiedenis inSuid-Afrika te bevor-der. Altesaam 19 Vol-vo’s, van oud tot nuut,het die geleentheidbygewoon. Die eersteVolvo, sover bekend,was die ‘PV4’ van1927 en is in Swedevervaardig. Later hetdie PV444, PV544(kromrug), 122SAmazon, die P1800tweedeur sportmo-tor, en nog vele meer gevolg. Van die bekendste modellein Suid-Afrika was die 4-deur 144, P1800 en diePV444/544. Die Volvo was ŉ gesogte motor vir die geslagvan die 1960/70’s, want dit was baie betroubaar, vinnigen bekostigbaar. Volvo is ook bekend vir al die veiligheids-faktore wat in die motor ingebou word. Volvo beteken “Iroll,” “Ek rol” na aanleiding van die koeëllaer fabriek SKF.Die Klub is amptelik in 1981 gestig deur Roy en Alet Fourieen ’n handjievol ander entoesiaste. Dit was nadat Volvo

uit Suid-Afrika onttrek het. Roy het besef dat daar baiemotorentoesiaste soos hy was wie die handelsmerk woubehou. Roy en Alet het in Parys kom aftree waar Roy ’npaar jaar gelede oorlede is. Alet is tans ŉ inwoner by Na-

we vriende gemaak en kopstukke gesels oor motors en nogwat.

Die huidige voorsitter, Deon van Loggerenberg, het dielede bedank vir hul bywoning en meelewing. Daar is ookŉ paar spesiale toekennings aan van die lede gemaak. Madam Mayor, when I scrabble this letter,I wanted to address it to our municipal mana-ger, but I remembered that the events I haveoutlined below took place before he was ap-pointed, as a first citizen. By then, when thishappened, I thought your office is the rightone to direct my letter to.

I am a fan of your work. Lately you havebeen offering our grannies blankets and food,not forgetting bursaries to academically de-serving students. One gesture that stood outfrom the rest was when you went out of yourway to offer learners from poor disadvanta-ged families full school attire. Your Facebookpage was abuzz with praises from people whowere admiring the gesture.

I considered that a splendid move, whichin my view suggest that your office staff havetheir fingers on the pulse of the situation. Avery competent staff working very hard to gi-ve all those good stories to tell enough publi-city.

Giving the nature of your office’s swellingbudget and the muscle your office flex of ro-ping in our local community radio station asa PR instrument, seem to be a less tedioustask, particularly when it comes to twistingred tape and artificial rules that are there inour beloved radio station (Lentswe Stereo) toaid your office in spreading the Gospel truth.Bravo - standing ovation is in order.

Madam Mayor, while you were busy run-ning your office errands, our beloved munici-pality’s (fire brigade department) shortage ofvehicles made its way to the national media.

The expose was about the entire depart-ment (fire brigade) allegedly dependant ononly one car which according to the news re-port suggested that the fleet of department ve-hicles remained unused to gather a heap ofdust. A vehicle which was used at that timewas said to belong to a gentleman who happe-ned to be holding a senior post within the de-

partment. I believe the entire community iseternally indebted to that unsung hero andguardian angel.

You see Madam Mayor, my take on thematter centred around the reactive approachyour office seems to be taking. The use ofone vehicle was public knowledge within thedepartment and I suppose a memo got its wayto your office’s to-do list before the saga re-ceived media attention and none of your de-signated officials bothered to lift their fingerto deal with the situation beforehand. But ittook bad publicity for your office to act andfix the mess i.e. buying a department car. It’slike your office is taking cues for it to be acti-ve. It doesn’t take initiative.

It was during the beginning of October2014 around Tambo, Mandela, Mbeki, Win-nie, the entire Vuka together with Lusaka sec-tion, that the entire area experienced watershortages and interrupted electricity supply,and I am sure as usual your office was wellaware of those occurrences. It took MadamMayor a group of disgruntled communitymembers to stage a march highlighting itsdispleasure and to seek clarity on how the Es-kom bill situation is being tackled. As wespeak, the very same group of disgruntledcommunity members has taken upon them-selves to tackle the Eskom bill matter headon by engaging National Energy Regulatorof South Africa (NERSA). I am told that peti-tions were signed and delivered. As a resultof that march which took your office by sur-prise, word has it that in Tumahole togetherwith certain parts of Parys, electricity surgeswere restored. Though the manner in whichthe water situation is being dealt with, leavelittle to be desired. Community is being sup-plied with water through Jojo tanks, “the ha-ves” including yourself and the rest of theteam employed to purify our water, are queu-ing for purified water, and want nothing fromthose Jojo tanks while “the have nots” are leftout to fend for themselves - how sad Madam

Mayor! I believe in our country’s constitutionwhich guarantees the right to strike, or con-duct peaceful demonstration, but what trans-pired during that day of the march, goesagainst our country’s constitution and reflec-ted low level of political tolerance from thevery same organisation that deployed you.

The act of parading members of the Wo-man`s League to act as a shield, suggest the

state of your office’s vulnerability. By law your office had a right to object

to the march and your office had ample timeto seek interdict against the application bylaw, but to use one of your organisation’s or-gans to subdue members of the public whileconducting a peaceful march, reflected highlevels of arrogance and none adherence to therule of law.

Haal uit oond; ver-sier met 6 piesangs, in die lengte in 3 gesny,en uie-, groenrissie- en tamatieringe. Sprinkel500ml gerasperde kaas bo-oor en plaas terugin die oond tot kaas gesmelt is. Dien op.

Chicken breasts with bananaUse this plentiful, economical and highly

nutritious fruit to add a tropical flavour tosweet and savoury dishes.

Brown 6 skinless, boneless chicken breastsin hot oil; add 2 crushed cloves garlic, 15ml

grated fresh ginger root and 4 spring onions,finely chopped. Pour 300ml hot chicken stockand 150ml fresh orange juice over chickenand bring to the boil, stirring. Reduce heat,cover and simmer 10 minutes. Stir in 30mlchutney, 30ml ginger syrup (from preservedginger) and 45ml chopped, preserved ginger.Stir in 10ml cornflour, mixed to a paste witha little water, bring to the boil stirring continu-ously until sauce thickens. onion, 25ml chopped parsley, salt and pepperto taste, 50ml fresh breadcrumbs, 2ml origa-num and 15ml chutney. Add one beaten eggand mix well. Form into six patties and fryin heated oil untilbrown and cooked.Drain on kitchen to-wel; keep warm.Spread 6 slices of toastwith butter and tomatopaste; sprinkle with alittle curry powder andpaprika. Top with pat-ties, slices of bananasand slices of Cheddarcheese. Place underpreheated griller untilgolden brown. Serves6.

Banana and oran-ge cake

Set oven at 180° C.Cream together 25mlgolden syrup and 30gbutter and spread overthe base of a 20cm so-

lid base cake tin. Slice 2 – 3 bananas,lengthways, and arrange in a daisy pattern onthe syrup base. Whisk together 4 egg yolks,100ml castor sugar and grated rind of 2 oran-ges until thick. Gradually whisk in 100gground almonds and 25ml hot water. Whiskthe 4 egg whites in a separate bowl until stiff.Fold into the yolk mixture and pour into thecake tin and bake for 40 – 45 minutes untilgolden brown. Cool in the tin for 10 minutesbefore turning out onto a serving plate. Spoonthe juice of the 2 rinded oranges onto the coo-led cake and decorate with orange segments.

Met ernstige kommer wat al vir lank bestaan oor die veiligheid en gesondheidsgevaarvan die munisipale stortingsterrein vir Parys langs die Doverpad, word die probleemnou selfs nog groter met inwoners wat oral in en buite die dorp vullis onwettig stort.Bo en behalwe dat dit ’n wetlike oortreding is wat wel met swaar boetes strafbaar is,skep dit opnuut gesondheidsgevare vir inwoners wat naby hierdie onwettige stortingsterreine gevestig is, en is die vraag wie ruim hierdie terreine op as daar nie eens opruimingswerk by die amptelike stortingsterrein gedoen word nie. Dié foto hierbo is geneemby die munisipale stortingsterrein waargeen beheer of rehabilitasie van die terreinis nie. Beeste wei hier terwyl mense watleef van die afval van die stortingsterreinook geen beskerming het teen wat hier afgelaai word nie.

Só lyk dit nog op pad na die stortingsterrein. Omdat mense bang is om beroof teword by die terrein, word vullis sommerlangs die pad afgelaai.

Dit is ook die prentjie digby die Schonkenvillewoonbuurt langs die Koppiespadwaar mense doodeenvoudig hul vullisstort, soos ook in die ou begraafplaas gedoen word. ’n Baie ernstige beroep wordop mense gedoen om nie vullis onwettigte stort nie. Sonder die samewerking vaninwoners kan hierdie nie stopgesit wordnie.

Die vragmotor met ’n vrag meel het verlede Woensdag in die vroeë oggendure opdie R59 buite Parys omgeslaan nadat die vragmotorbestuurder klaarblyklik uitgeswaai het vir ’n stilstaande voertuig in die pad. Niemand is in die ongeluk beseernie, maar die meelsakke het gesaai langs die pad gelê.

Comrades legend Bruce Fordyce and the may-or of Ngwathe Local Municipality, Joey Mo-chela, officially launched the first Parys park-run on Saturday 8 November. The beautifulscenic route for the parkrun follows along thebank of the Vaal River starting and finishingin the Mimosa Gardens.

Visitors from far and wide joined in the pastweekend’s parkrun, coming from Potchef-stroom, Roodepoort, Delta and other Johannes-burg and Pretoria parkruns, as well as a runnerfrom Coventry in the UK, who currently works

in SA. Congratulations to Gill Fordyce forcompleting her 100th parkrun and to Jaco Vander Walt for completing his 50th.

Junior runners performed extremely wellwith special note of their running times madeby Fordyce. The top 3 men’s placings went toFrancois Joubert (JM15-17) of HoërskoolRandburg Athletics Club, first over the line in17:17. Cameron Grant (JM15-17) was secondover the line in 17:28. Local runner David Hla-lele (SM20-24) (Dome Athletics Club) wasthird over the line in 17:55.

Top 3 women’s placings were Tracy Rankin(VW45-49) of Born 2 Run Athletics Club, first(22nd overall) over the line in 22:24. Joannevan der Walt (VW40-44) was second (28thoverall) over the line in 23:18, with Kiara Mil-lerd (JW11-14) third (34th overall) over the li-ne in 24:46.

Thanks go to Ngwathe Local Municipalityand all the people who helped making Parysparkrun possible, especially Barry Joubert, Ka-ren Addison, Ras Botma, Anyway Munarwoand other volunteers who cleaned up along theroute before Saturday’s event and helped withother arrangements. Thanks also to Ngwathe’sdepot manager Mr TJ Rankadi and his teamwho installed concrete bridges over ditches forthe safety of the runners, and Mr Ramasimong,Ngwathe Municipality Sports Manager whoshowed tremendous support.

Well done to all the volunteers on the dayand the runners. There were 123 official finishers. parkrun is a free weekly 5km run/walk.The Parys parkrun takes place every Saturdayat 08:00 from Mimosa Gardens.
