NEW AWARD FOR WA CITIZEN OF THE YEAR.
This year’s Western Australian Citizen of the Year ceremony will feature a new award paying tribute to the
late Sir Ronald Wilson, a prominent public servant, lawyer, judge and social activist. Announcing the
opening of nominations today, Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests John Castrilli said the
inclusion of the Sir Ronald Wilson Leadership Award recognised the exceptional work of an individual in
the fields of equality, human rights and social justice.
“For 37 years the WA Citizen of the Year Award has produced awe inspiring winners and demonstrated
that WA’s greatest assets are its people.” Mr Castrilli said there was a tremendous amount of talent in the
community - people who truly deserved to be acknowledged for their contributions.
“I am very pleased to recognise the achievements, vision, commitment and spirit of individuals and
service organisations which make our State a better place to work and live in,” he said.
“The State Government is proud to support the awards and encourages people to get involved.”
Nominations close on Thursday April 1. Governor Dr Ken Michael AC will announce recipients at a gala
award presentation dinner on Saturday May 29. Information and nomination forms can be found on
