13 KUALIFIKASI DASAR (KOMPETENSI) ARSITEK
ability / skill: 2, understanding: 4, knowledge: 7 • Ability to create architectural designs that satisfy both aesthetic and technical requirement,
and which aim to be environmentally sustainable.
• Adequate knowledge of the history and theories of architecture and related arts,
technologies and human sciences.
• Knowledge of the fine arts as an influence on the quality of architectural design.
• Adequate knowledge of urban design, planning and the skills involved in the planning
process.
• Understanding of the relationship between people and buildings and between buildings and
their environments, and of the need to relate spaces between them to human needs and
scale.
• An adequate knowledge of the means of achieving environmentally sustainable design.
• Understanding of the profession of architecture and the role of architects in society, in
particular in preparing briefs that account for social factors.
• Understanding of the methods of investigation and preparation of the brief for a design
project.
• Understanding of the structural design, construction and engineering problems associated
with building design.
• Adequate knowledge of physical problems and technologies and of the function of buildings
so as to provide them with internal conditions of comfort and protection against climate.
• Necessary design skills to meet building users requirements within the constraints imposed
by cost factors and building regulations.
• Adequate knowledge of the industries, organizations, regulations and procedures involved
in translating design concepts into buildings and integrating plans into overall planning.
• Adequate knowledge of project financing, project management and cost control.
ETHICS & ARCHITECTURE
• Ethics asks: In what manner shall I live? What is good? What is
excellence/virtue? What is right action? What is just?
• Architecture may ask: What is “good” architecture? What constitutes
virtue in architecture and in the practices of architecture? What
manner of living is implied in the forms of particular architectural
solutions? Do the acts of designing and building our habitat
intrinsically embrace the questions that ethics asks? Is there an
ethical connection between the “goodness” and “virtues” of
architecture and the greater “social good”?
(Wasserman, Ethics and ......., 2000)
ETHICS
1. Is the study of human conduct and moral values;
2. May refer to a set of values or moral systems;
3. Comprises duties and standards of conduct for individual persons,
groups, and professions;
4. Includes writings and treatises on ethics; and
5. Entails critical reasoning with respect to moral considerations.
Ethics is concerned with how to go about life, what it means to “live
well”, to accomplish “good” in the world, and to be “just” or “fair” in one’s
personal and professional life.
Applied ethics is the field of study that addresses the application of
ethical theory to everyday situations, the practices of architecture
included.
(Wasserman, Ethics and ......., 2000)
FUNDAMENTAL CONDITIONS OF
ARCHITECTURAL ETHICS
Architects and buildings, architectural processes
and the relationships among and with the people
whom architects engage, have ethical impacts and results – an ethics.
The Architect, as a contemporary professional, is expected by the other
members of society to master, and to remain up-to-date on, the theoretical and
practical complex knowledge and skills regarding planning and designing our
habitat – knowledge and skills that constitute the core of the discipline of
architecture. ......
The architectural processes whereby environmental constructions are
brought about – from pre-planning and conceptual design through construction
and occupancy – exist within a framework of a myriad of human relationships,
of design/construction decisions that need to be made, and of craft and
production activities. ......
Buildings themselves, and other landscape modifications and interventions
both large and small, have an embedded ethics that evolves their human
purposes, the motives and values of the persons and society that design and
build them, and the interpretation of them by subsequent generations. ......
