AnchorageAnchorage is obtainable 1 NM W of Graadyb Fairway Buoy (Racon) in depths of 15 - 17 m.
ArrivalCall Esbjerg Port Control 2 hours before passing Graadyb Fairway buoy on VHF channel 12. Report when passing buoys 1-2 and again when passing buoys 13-14.
Cargo Handling FacilitiesIn the North Port at pier 069 there are pipelines for loading/unloading of fish oil and other oil products
The Commercial Harbour has large open storage areas, numerous warehouses of about 325,700 m3, cold storage of about 138,500 m3, and storage tanks for oil, fish oil and LPG.
Present Equipment: Several mobile cranes up to 150 tons capacity, of this three (3) can be fitted with grab and three (3) with container spreader. One (1) conveyors/gravel sorting plant Several forklift trucks, tugmasters and bobcats. Two (2) coal cranes

The port has no specific immigration/visa requirements to the crew onboard vessels calling at the port. Crew change is possible in the port/terminal/anchorage. No restrictions on crew shore leave. Dutch, French, Norwegian, Finnish and Swedish consulates are available in the port/city.

EntranceThe up to 10 mile long approach channel (200 metres wide) is maintained at a least water depth of 10.3 m (34’) (Mean Low Water Spring) and depth at Mean High Water is 11.6 metres (38’) at the borders 11.1 metres. The entrance is well marked by lights and buoys.
Regulations for narrow channels in Danish waters are enforced and mean that inward bound ships off Graadyb bar should give way for those outward bound
In port: If two vessels cannot pass each other without danger, the vessel that will depart from pier shall wait with departure, until a ship sailing in the channel has passed, regardless of it is inbound or outbound.
ETAAdvise agent as early as possible and send request for pilot at least 6 hours in advance with confirmation of ETA 2 hours before arrival off Graadyb bar.

Garbage is collected on request (after notice, automatically) by both private and public enterprise.
Before arrival it is compulsory to forward the “Registration form for Delivery of Waste” to the Port of Esbjerg. The form is available at http://www.portesbjerg.dk forwarding by e-mail.
HarbourNordhavnen (The North Port) Piers 001 to 090 comprises four basins with 5000 m of berthage and depths of up to 10,5 m serving the fishing fleet, the associated service facilities, fish processing plants etc. In basin no. 6 is situated two floating docks, with the capacity to take ships up to 120 m overall and a displacement up to 4500 tons.
Trafikhavnen (The Traffic Port) Piers 100 to 118 provides some 2,000 m of berths with depths along-side ranging from 7,5 m to 11,5 m (24’ - 38’). 2 fixed ramps. 2 berths for oil, LPG, fish oil and molas-ses with depths from 7,5 m to 10,5 m ( 24’ - 34’).

Dokhavnen (The Dock Port) Piers 300 to 310 has 1,025 m of berths and a general depth of 6,7 m.
Sønderhavnen (The South Port) Piers 201-203-206 and piers 401 to 402 to 718 concist of
Humberkaj, Baconkaj, Smørkaj, Englandskaj, Østre Forhavnskaj, Vestkraftkaj and Europakaj with depths from 8,4 m up to 10,5 m are equipped with facilities for ferry and container traffic, off shore activities and general cargo. One fixed double ramp and 2 fixed ramps.
Atlantkaj 250 m of berthage with depths of 10,5 m, equipped with one (1) fixed ramp.
Australienkaj 290 m of berthage with depths of 10,5m; equipped for the reception of coal for the power station.
Arieskaj 400 m of berthage with depths of 10,5 m.
Tauruskaj in continuation of Australia Quay is 380 m long with depths of 10,5 m.
Geminikaj in continuation of Taurus Quay is 330 m long with depths of 10,5 m.
Østhavnen (The East Port) Piers 719 to 812 concist of
Leokaj is 150 m long with depths of 10,5 m.
Virgokaj is 545 m long with depths of 10,5 m.
Librakaj is 180 m long with depths of 9,3 m, equipped with one (1) fixed ramp.

InfrastructureEsbjerg is linked to all parts of the country, Northern Germay and Scandinavia by motorway and railway. A great number of shipping lines have regular sailings to ports all over the world. Esbjerg Airport has daily flights to Stavanger and Aberdeen and air taxi services are available. The modern heliport mainly serves the offshore installations in the North Sea.
Billund Airport which is located about one hour’s drive from Esbjerg has several international flights on a daily basis.

The maximum dimensions mentioned above does not apply to all berths, quays or areas within the port.
To Australienkaj – Arieskaj and Tauruskaj (berths 710 through 718) a vessel of up to 245 m (803’) in length are accepted.
PilotageCompulsory pilotage The Danish Pilotage ACT no. 567 of 09/06/2006
Section 4. In internal and external territorial waters there is an obligation for ships to use a pilot if they:
1) Are carrying oil or have uncleaned cargo tanks that have not been rendered safe with inert air,
2) Are carrying chemicals,
3) Are carrying gases,
4) Have more than 5,000 t bunker oil onboard or
5) Are carrying highly radioactive material. Subsection 2. The Danish Pilotage Authority specifies, in accordance with international definitions, what is understood by the cargos mentioned in subsection 1.
Present Notification no. 472 of 25/05/2007:
§1 Pilotage is compulsory for certain towing and towed vessels navigating in dredged channels (Entrance to Esbjerg) or marked navigation channels, into or when passing harbours or pilot stations.

Subsection 2. If the towed vessel is unmanned, or if the vessel is not under its own power, the towing vessel must take on a pilot.
Subsection 3. A vessel which pursuant to Subsections 1 and 2 must take a pilot can be exempt here-from if:
1) The gross tonnage of the towed vessel is less than 150,
2) The length (l.o.a.) of the towed vessel is less than 28 m, or
3) The vessel is being towed or is towing within the area of the same harbour.
Pilot usually boards half a mile seaward of the Graadyb Fairway Buoy(racon). In bad weather the pilot will board inside Buoy No. 7.
The distance from pilot boarding place to the port is abt. 10 nm.
No pilot boat is permanently on station so the pilot should be ordered about 18 hours prior to arrival. Pilots can be reached on VHF channel 87 or on telephone No. +45 63 25 66 66 or E-mail: [email protected].
NAABSAShips will normally stay afloat, however ships with maximum draft may touch the bottom (sand or mud) when strong winds from easterly directions prevail.
ObstructionsShips with a draft of 9,0 m and above (29,5 feet) must enter the port at high water.

Tank ships terminal (piers 101 and 102). The Traffic Harbour (piers 103 to 116). DFDS Esbjerg Container Terminal (piers 117 and 118 – 203 to 207). Dock Har-bour (piers 301 to 304). The South Port and the East Port (piers 401 and 402 – piers 501 to 604 and piers 710 to 812). The South Port pier 401 is an on/off facility.

Situation(55 deg. 28’N - 8 deg. 26’E)
On the W coast of Jutland, 15 miles ESE of Blaavands Huk point. A commercial port with facilities for handling ro-ro and lo-lo traffic. There are broad quayside areas ideal for handling general cargo and solid bulk cargo.
Tides and CurrentsThe tidal range is under normal conditions of about 1.3 m (4’), but gales from W can raise the water level by up to 4 m and those from E may lower it by about 1 m. The tidal streams, which are strongest at half tide set across the harbour entrances at rates of up to 3 knots at spring tides.
TowageTwo tugs available. Additional tugs are available on request. Towage is not compulsory.
Trade and ShippingThe total turnover amounts to about 4 million t, 1/3 of the turnover relates im- and exports of ro-ro cargo and general cargo. Imports include cars, coal, general cargo, LPG and oil.
WatchmenEmployment of watchmen from shore is compulsory during discharging/loading inflammable liquids class I and II and liquefied gas.
