AEL - YINS Cafe

A project that I managed whilst AEL Solutions. A bespoke role play area designed to encourage social, language, mathematic, currency and role play skills. AEL were approached by the school to produce a large outdoor area for their younger children to use. After an initial meeting with the school to determine what they wanted, a rough idea of the appearance and their budget, I produced the YINS Cafe concept. The visuals above show the second stage of product developement after a meeting with school staff about the initial concepts. The project involved a large amount of communication and liasing with the school and had many bespoke and custom elements to it. Tasks included: Material sourcing and ordering, BOM construction and costing, Manufacturing and Installation drawings and some custom

graphic work.

AEL - Haystacks Project

A bespoke piece of play equipment for a school that wanted a more challenging item for their children to use and something that they could incorporate into obstacle courses. This was a concept that I proposed and developed based off of some existing pieces of play equipment that we sold. The drawings were developed in conjunction with the installations manager and installers in order improve and simplify the installation of the haystack climber range. It looked at breaking down how the various pieces went together, giving the installers more accurate and easier to read dimensions and tried to make

the installation process as smooth as possible. A project that I managed from start to finish.

AEL - Furniture Design

A selection of CAD drawings that have been produced whilst at AEL Solutions. These drawings were produced in Autodesk Inventor and were either used during manufacture in the workshop or sent to China to be mass manufactured. The drawings are a selection of original designs and existing items that have had to be reverse engineered.

Concept Sketching

A collection of sketches and concepts that were produced to expand Monster Play’s range of early years (Under 5) equipment. These sketches were taken from an early stage of development where the key was to explore as many different ideas and concepts as possible. The sketches here show a selection on Hobbit hill style playhouses.

Monster Play - CAD Drawings

A CAD drawing that was produced as part of a project to build some custom playhouses/shelters for a school. The playhouse was drawn up in Creo before the manufacturing drawings, part lists and a BOM were produced.

Monster Play - CAD Drawings

An exploded view that was produced during a project to build some custom playhouses/shelters for a school. The playhouse was drawn up in Creo before the manufacturing drawings, part lists and a BOM were produced. This drawing would have been included in the manufacturing drawing pack to be sent to the in-house factory.

Innovative Kitchen Branding

A group project to establish a new kitchen ware brand before designing new products for the company. A brand identity had to be established and products made to fit this identity. This product is a redesigned whisk that improves performance, is easier to clean and has a more elegant look. The renders were produced in Solidworks and rendered in PhotoView 360.

RCA Lighting Project

This is the final presentation image that was used to show my lights capabilities and effect in a natural and real environment. This image was used to showcase my design at a lighting exhibition that I was chosen to present at. The render was produced in Solidworks and rendered with Photoview 360.

An overview of the major project looking into reducing the discomfort and pain associated with Shin Splints and looking at ways to help with the recovery of sufferers. This page is looking at what the project entails, what it does and why the project is needed. It is brief collection of justification and research into the problems posed and potential solutions.

Major Project - Concept

Shin Splints are one of the most common injuries suffered by runners and athletes, and can be incredibly painful. The projects aims to look into ways of improving and speeding up rehabilitation for the sufferer.

Causes of Shin Splints- High impact activities.- Suddenly increasing the workload on the shins.- Continuing to exercise in worn out foot-wear.- Overpronation and Oversupination- Lack of, or decreased, flexibility in the ankle joint.

Prevention of Shin Splints- Correct and thorough stretching of the leg muscles.- Wearing correct footwear.- Strengthening and conditioning of the lower leg.- Reduction of work load, i.e. running distances.- R.I.C.E - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.- Heat and deep tissue massage.- Physiotherapy to correct biomechanics and running techniques.

Major Project - Development

A collection of sketching and development work associated with my major project. Exploring styles, aesthetics and ideas for the products. The prototypes demonstrate examples of handle designs and proving the principle of how the roller works. These were produced in the workshops at Brunel University.

Page 18: Portfolio - Dan Tanner

Major Project - Final Project

Final rendered images and mock-up model of my major project at university. This is the roller part of my investigtion into better shin splint treatment and prevention. To go wih this roller there was also a compression sleeve with built in heat and cold packs. These packs were made from Cherry Stones a natural product with good heat and cold retention properties.

A brand deconstruction group project looking at a chosen brand, breaking down what the brand represents, its core values and design ethos before suggesting new areas and sectors to take the brand into whilst retaining its identity. The chosen brand was POC, a protection gear company from Sweden. A book was produced with the findings and the recommended directions. To see the book in full please

These are the final outcomes from the group. The left pictures show my final outcome, an e-textile undershirt designed to be worn by fire fighters under their regular kit. The shirt has built in GPS to monitor the fire fighters locations as well as health monitors to keep a check on heart rate, O2 levels, breathing rate, water levels and various other vitals. This data would then be transferred back to whoever was in

charge of the situation allowing them to make better informed judgements and decisions. The left photo shows the whole of the groups final outcomes.
