As the saying suggest, I strongly believe the world consists of many simple rules, which finally make things as complex as we see. To me, the same situation is found in architecture.

This portfolio shows my architecture projects beginning from my freshman year. What I have been trying to do is to find simple patterns and make them become space & architecture. The con-cepts of mine are always simple and clear whatever the results are. In other words, I focus on the rules instead of others.

I can not make things difficult, I can only make them complex.

Nest-living

Co-Housing is a way of living which usually combined with so-cial care. People can take care with each other like birds, back-ing to the nature.

A group of people living together needs activities to create more chances to get to know each other.

In this project, I made the map-like circulation in order to put all important needs together, so each habitant can give others a hand.

群居的生活需要更多的活动来串联彼此,在这三维试的地铁动线,所有重要的活动点都在交会处发生。

Everything Started Here

This shop is located on the famous Dihua Street where we usually buy things for Chinese New Year.

The concept was based on the commercial system there, using two dif-ferent coffee beans from nature. I used peaberry and flat beans to create a “bean space.” By entering the bean space, the custumors will notice a dif-

ferent atmosphere, in color, public & private space, from outside...

Come AcrossAcadamy/ Personal School Project 2010 Type: Public/ ArchitectureLocation: Beside Shilin MRT StationInstructor: Ih-Cheng Lai

The site is just beside the MRT so my design strategy was to create a path to introduce visitors to artists and make it more possible for them to interact with

each other. The structure system is inspired by the MRT bridge. I have created an MRT

underbridge-like space below the mass. So the open area will be full of visitors and artists.

From site analysis we learnt that this location is a unique place for build-ing a cultural center, be-cause all art workers are above the second floor. In contrast, visitors move around on the ground floor so the in between space should have some activities, including some workshops, bars, stores, performaning places, res-taurants ... and so on.

Inbetween从基地所在位置发现众多有趣的

事件,其相较在地面层活动的旅

动像是乐团表演,商店,工作

The technical drawing above, named“Heart Beating,” consists of several circles. When

those circles interact with each other, it comes with a ripple-like effect, giving a visual influence

to obsevers and arousing dizzy and echo-like feelings. On the other hand, in the project on the

right, I tried hard to test the friction, force and arrangments between woods. Whenever I push

the sticks below, the above components will also be moved by friciton between them and will also

be controlled. Both projects were done by using the same de-sign strategy, which comes from basic compo-nents and finally causes purity, simplicity and

some complexity.

In this period, I was trying to discuss and analyze the possibli-

ties of small scale objects then magnify and represent them on

an architectural scale. The most important thing is how to balance the aesthetic

and the structure between them. The way I did this was to deconstruct them first and as-semble them according to my

own rules, which concentrate on simplicity and fluidity.

Boundary and limitation

As everyone can see, a design with some limits is more strict and sometimes more attractive than one without them. In the “Tree Space” pro-ject I used a boundary and limitations within a 60x60x60cm3 box.

First, I split the concrete cube into 7 pieces so the section can be seen easily. The space in it is just like a black and white atmosphere. I should con-sider the white part(Object) and make it become a black part(Space). The key is translation.

Finally, each piece can be reassembled in differ-ent angles. The boundary and limitation is not that strict and awkward in this way. Instead, it’s freedom.

TKU Experimental Theatre Worshop

Workshop/ Construction/ 2010 summerType: Theatre/ ArchitectureLocation: TKU CampusMaterial: Cedar wood/ C steelInstructor: Xuan-Cheng Chen/ Li Wen Sung

In the summer of 2010, twenty years Experiemental Theatre inner and out-ter space are totally unusable and needs to be renewed. So our school budgeted some money then asked architectural students as volunteers to make it real. Professior Sung and Pro-fessior Chen led us(20 sophomore and 7 senior students) to practice architec-ture from design to construction. We did not produce it in quantity. In-stead, we measured each wood present.

Wood House Reassemble Workshop

This is the workshop that I learnt from several traditional Japansese Carpenters,

we used tenon

without using any nails.

Workshop/ Construction/ 2009 summerType: House/ ArchitectureLoaction: Danshui Material: Meniki, Pine WoodInstructor: Japanese Taditional Carpenter

Description:The Japanese government decided to send a dead writer’s

house, which is a historical building and was built a hundred ago. So the building was deconstructed and sent to Taiwan and then we helped them build it again. Each piece had been num-

ber-marked.

Parametric design is always focus on logical thinking, based on something more simple and essential. Like de-scribing natures through mathematical way.

参数的设定与数学逻辑像描述大自然与世界的方法,当定义清楚时,所有的事情都变得
