Hi, my name is Lysanne van der Voort and I love beautiful but most of all smart products. Luckily, I am a designer.

Our world serves us with so many possibilities; it is my challenge to extrude the knowledge about products, the need for products and the behavior of people in order to design the best and most useful interactions and situations. This portfolio shows a selection of my projects from the past few years.

One thing is clear: I am passionate about designing with and for the final user with the goal to create products, which have an added value to the users life.

A new design of light in public space

Page 18: Portfolio Lysanne van der Voort

Can you imagine a world without light?

Light is something we need but it also shows and creates beauty in the world around us. With light architecture beautiful pieces of a building can be emphasized or other experiences can be encouraged. In this project we developed a new light plan for the entrance of the faculty of Civil Engineering en Geoscience in Delft. .

LIGHT ARCHITECTUREA new design of light in public space

With the new light plan we increased the feeling of safety, to give the building and faculty an identity and to add some positive elements to the visual comfort

The advantages of a cameras, messaging and social networks like facebook are combined in a way that it is easy to use for the elderly.

The interaction: The sender takes a picture, chooses a person from her network, closes the shell and places the picture of that person on top of the shell to send the picture to the right person.

The receiver will find the picture frame of the sender blinking. He opens the shell, places the picture of the sender in the shell and sees the message or picture to appear on the screen.

Pictures send in the past can be viewed by scrolling the white wheel in the middle.

Wacom Bamboo pen & touch tabletA redesign of the ‘getting started’ proces

Page 28: Portfolio Lysanne van der Voort

The pen tablet is a user friendly product, the provided getting started and learning phase unfortunately not. For this reason, Bamboo asked us to redesign this phase by presenting the right information of the product at the right moment.

This resulted in a_new packaging_new website with an instruction video _basic tutorial.

All designed to make the getting started phase aseasy, enjoyable, efficient and appealing as possible.

It leads the new user from the installation to the first moment of individual use. Besides that, is it motivating to discover more and does it improve the general perception of the Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch.

THE OF

POWERDESIGN

CHANGING BEHAVIORA research project: What kind of product is most effective in influencing human behavior in a social dilemma.

Page 32: Portfolio Lysanne van der Voort

THE OF

IN

POWERDESIGN

CHANGING BEHAVIOR

Maybe you don’t know it, but most of our behavior is the result of unaware brainwork.

Products have the power to change our behavior and most often without us even realising it since it influences us by our unawareness.

This power is something we can use to steer and change the unwishful behavior of people in a social dilemma.

In order to understand how we can influence the behavior by the unawareness and to discover what is the most effective way to do it, I designed four products and tested them in a field experiment.

_2 posters_2 products

The products varied in influencing the behavior in an implicit or in an explicit way.

explicit

implicitsigndesign

Page 33: Portfolio Lysanne van der Voort

1. The first product is an explicit product, the Tell by waste.

Every time some one throws waste in the bin, the screen shows a new funny line or saying.

The interaction with the bin is fun and the action of throwing away your waste becomes something nice to repeat at other moments.

Page 34: Portfolio Lysanne van der Voort

2. Leading lines

Page 35: Portfolio Lysanne van der Voort

2. The second, implicit product consists of lines over the tables towards the bins.

This context cue should lead first of all the eyes to the bin. And later on also the person with the waste.

Page 36: Portfolio Lysanne van der Voort

3. The third product is the explicit poster.A clear pictogram and text are explicitly telling to throw away the waste in the bin.

4. The fourth product is the implicit poster.By a picture of a clean environment and a suggestion to turn this area together into something beautiful.

Page 37: Portfolio Lysanne van der Voort

explicit

implicitsigndesign

Eventually the results show that in the category of ‘design’ the implict prod-uct is more effective in influencing the behavior.

But in the category of ‘sign’, the explicit product will be more effective if we want to change the behavior.

This research does not tell us that in all cases of changing behavior of the many should be done by using explicit posters or implicit designs.

But it does show us how powerfull design can be if we apply it in the right way.
