Many factories closed and left lots of abandoned warehouses and cargo transport railway system. Therefore, we attemped to provide a opportunity of rebirth, refill the vacant space with green and human-oriented design, reveal the unique quality of industrial landscape.
Kaohsiung Harbor is located in Yan-Cheng district, Kaohsiung City. In 1970's, this region was one of the most wealthy and prosperous place of the city. However, followed by the retreat of U.S. army and the transformation of industrial structure was the economic recession.

HamasenMt.Shousan The site is located on the main entrance of Kaohsiung Harbor, which is one of the top international commercial ports in the world. There are many storehouses and buildings that was abon-doned, some of which are still working and belong to Kaohsiung Harbor Bureau. Between Hamasen and the base is the magnificent railway system, which will be demolished in the future. We take it as an important element of our design and seek the possibil-ity of preservation.
There were six of the graduation class who took Kaohsiung Harbor as graduation project. We decided to plan the whole site together. The process was a lot of fun and we are ambitious to come up with something inspiring and hopefully practical. We first made a principle for the harbor, and divided it into three part according to the geographical and spacial charac-teristics. My partner and I choose the entrance area of the Kaohsiung Harbor, where included the relic of the railway, the collective of warehouses, pier No.3 and the banana canopy, as the base of our graduation project.

Firstly, the area was designed for cargo transportation. We reduced the width of the road and separated pedestrian from vehicle route. Then we twisted the axis which refer to the form of coastline to hint the direction of the next site. As to the relic of railway, to consider its importance of collective memory, we reformed it to the landscape park and keep the local context.

intro
Nantau
In 1956, Taiwan Provincial Government moved to the desolated farmland near Cauton Township to avoid the risk of distruction occured from air raid attack in Taipei City. The government built a town which based on the concept "Garden City" initiated by Sir Ebenezer Howard to ac the employees and their families a space to live. They named this place" Jhong-Sing New Village "
However, the provincial administration has been greatly streamlined in 1999. Most of the departments were dissolved and deactivated. What is worse, the 921 earthquake happened and caused a seriously property lost in the same year. The population and labor force have been declining since then. Therefore, the revival of Jhong-Sing New Village has become a critical issue.
The project aimed to maintain the unique spatial context of Garden City and and provide a land use plan to achieve sustainable developmnet.

site
Jhong-Sing New Village was the only town which was modeled on the concept of "Garden City " and remained its unique pattern until today. The city was located near Cauton township and the foothills of Mt. Guanyin. There are several waterways and rivers floating through the town and heading to Maoluo river, which is at the western side. Chelongpu Fault , which was caused the 921 earthquake, is stretched along the eastside of the town and the foothills of Mt.Guanyin.
Jhong-Sing New Village is well provided with public facilities. Inspired by the Garden City concepts, it has combined working and living areas together to create a park-like community.
Jhongsing New Village is also a pioneer in introducing separate drainage systems for rain and sewage runoff, contributing to the clean and high-quality living environment of the community.A strong spirit of neighborly feelings and mutual support has been fostered by the cul-de-sac design of the smaller roads in the town.

issue
Jhong-Sing Advanced Research Park Project was promulgated in 2009. The project divided Jhong-Sing New Village into three sections and a residential area for researchers and their families.
Once completed, the park will house 250 research and development units, including the state-funded Industrial Technology Research Institute and the Institute of Infor-mation Industry, providing more than 13,000 job opportu-nities.
However, most of the area in the village was originally planned for low-density use, which is not suitable for intensive use like hi-tech parks. What's worse, The small neighbor units and the spatial context will be destroyed by the construction of giant industrial buildings.
The skyline of Jhong-Sing New Village is shaped by the crest line of Mt.Guanyin, the bungalows and the shade trees along the streets. It has been a special scene in the residents' memory for the past half century. Once the modern research build-ings are constructed in the village, the peaceful scene and the memorable images of Jhon-Sing New Village would be gone forever.

possibility
Our goals are as follow:
1. To continue JhongSing New Village’s lead-ing role in spatial development discourse in Taiwan in the past. 2. To highlight the political performance of Taiwan to first establish the concept of a Garden City in southeast asia.
3. To integrate and fulfill the leading mission of Taiwan's first eco-city and Advanced Research Park area, research park development, public land, and other resources should be properly integrated to promote the park to become a model as Taiwan responses to the global low-carbon agreements
The main operational strategies to construct JhongS-ing New Village as an eco-city is to establish eco habitats, restore and preserve an environment of water and greenness.
Based on the existing ratio of green cover , includ-ing nature-preserving foundation, the flowing water strategy. The most important thing is to create an organic development base for the future city .

Based on preserving spatial texture, implement eco-friendly construction stan-dards , and develop "green-tech research and display area ".
Environmental restoration – designate the national residential areas with environmen-tal restoration values and landscape pres-ervation necessity as <special precincts>, to maintain residential uses. Based on preserving spatial texture, building outlook and subject scales, combine urban renewal strategies and introduce eco-construction controls; implement eco-friendly construction and repairing.

Da-Zhi Catholic Cemeterythe path of inner deliverance
Landscape Architecture/ 2004/ Taipei City, Taiwan
intro
This is my first and the only project that related to the issue about religion and death. It was a rarely chance because usual design departments in Taiwan did not tend to choose these kind of sensitive material as the design topics.
Cemeteries are forbidden place in traditional Taiwanese society. People think that places connecting to death affairs are inauspicious. I try to change the image into peacefulness and sacredness instead of a creepy haunted area.
Da-Zhi Cemetery was found in 1975. It is one of the three main catholic graveyards in Taipei, and Da-Zhi Cemetery is the one closest to downtown Taipei City. Therefore, many celebrities and clergies choose there to be their final resting place.
DDaZhi area has become the most rapid-growing area in Taipei City. Because lack of enough space, many residential areas are built near the churchyard. The in-between space would be an important issue of this project.

site
The graveyard is located at the southern foothills of Mt. Jiantan. The location is chose based on Traditional Chinese system of geometry- Feng Shui.
The Da-Zhi district was not so populous when the cemetery was found, and that was the other reason for Catholic Archdioceses to choose here as the third exclu-sive cemetery. However, the expan-sion of Taipei City is diminishing the distance between the cemetery and urban area. The problem of close spatial relations between the cemetery and newly established communities need to be solve.
In the cemetery, the roads are pedestrian-only. Down below the cemetery, Tong Bei Street is available for vehicles. Sidewalk is set on Tong Bei Street.
The site is located at the foothill. The gradient of most area is over 12%. Some of which is even over 15%.
The spatial expansibility is limited by the illegal betel nut farm setting right in front of the entrance area. The shadow of betel nut trees makes the area dark, and results in uncomfortable feeling for people approach-ing the cemetery.
At the southern side of the site was the local community which built 5 years ago. The graveyard is only a few meters away from it, which is an unique/ uncommon/ rare situation in Taiwanese soci-ety.
The cemetery has a southern exposure. To considered the weather in Taiwan, even the wide spacial perception is the important element of the entrance area, it need appro-priate shading space.

The stairs are the most famil-iar way of moving in the cemetery . It also hints that people have to climb hard to reach the favor of god.
ladder
Most of form in this project are made of rectangle to hint the integrity and fair treatment from upper power.
square
There are many hindrances block on the way of our life. I would use the shade of arches and pave-ment as the symbol of obstacles.

The love from god is equal, so as death. I use parellel lines to present the equaliza-tion in the space. The earthly power and wealth would become void in afterlife.
