速紅綠燈暖暖身,再來更激烈的快轉和慢速學會控制肢體,還有超有趣的動物燈;

Black Death

Page 34: PORTFOLIO OF CHILD WHO

34

The theme is great related to the origin of mask.Beak-like masks, in fact, were designed for the doctors in Late Middle Ages. The masks with long beak- l ike shape were used for separating doctors from patients. Therefore, the masks include the meaning of death, loneliness, and distance to me. To me, I am afraid loneliness is the most dreadful infectious d i s e a s e . S h e i s s i l e n t , n o structure and no sound, but sometimes she parasitizes my heart of hearts. She is like the invisible black.Loneliness is a kind of plague which is the

Black Death this era. Being alone is a terrible thing; because of fear, hoping not to be alone is another terrible thing which is the main theme of the works. The techniques show the strong contrast between of black and white that express the single and alienation of loneliness. By the way, the computer screen stands for the fake saving medication in our era.Whether we have met the people on the screen or not, We seem to get the recognition, and no more being alone. From the observer’s point of view, we are still setting alone with self

– righteous comforts. There is such a change perhaps because we have forgotten how the feeling of making friend is, after getting long time into the society from schools. It is easy to find someone with friendliness. By contrast, the sense of alienation appears after starting careers. Gradually, we began to prefer something mature. On the other hand, it is different to interpret the current. It probably is the reason to make the picture not bright under the shutter. In the near future, I want

my works. To me, the text can describe the picture that camera can’t do; the camera can piture unspeakable words. I personally think that the combinat ion of these two must be very interesting.

What kind of the opportunity let you go into photography? Furthermore, please talk about your growing background.

When I was a little kid, my mother had own a restaurant. My growing process is the time spent in kitchen for helping. In my student period, I develop an interest in painting. After get the achievement from competitions of traditional Chinese painting, sketching and comic, I built up my confidence in art. Then, I choose to read advertising design. I learn photography in theory and practice in school courses. However, I did not devote myself to photography-related job after graduation. I w e n t b a c k t o m o t h e r ’s restaurant. S o m e t i m e w o r k i n g , I t r ans f e r r ed f rom smok ing kitchen to wonderful fashion industry. I opened and ran the physical clothing store for 7 years. I watched movies and books to kill the time in store. I think it’s the important basis of my inspiration when photographing. Then, a friend

sold me the Nikon D50 camera because he would like to grade up to the full scale one. In that way, I began to shooting clothes in my store and started developing business online. It is the outset that friends asked me photograph including fashion shooting, personal portraits, pregnancy photography, child pho tography and wedd ing recording. Also, I was invited to give lectures for companies and shooting cover photo for magazines. All of sudden, I found the accomplishment of photography had been much better than the clothing store. That was just the moment the landlord decided to take back the plot. After all, I became a full time photographer.

What photography mean to you? From beginning to new, photography show the fancy picture in my mind. Whether the imaginations appear when creating or anytime are the fleeting moment worth well preserving.

Page 40: PORTFOLIO OF CHILD WHO

40

Talk about the concept and the ideas of the subject. “Who are you?” In others eyes, “Who you are?” It is a try to explore the thematic questions, but not just beautiful photos. Furthermore, I expect that the persons being photographed can reflect on it. Not just let the audience see themselves but also get the chances seeing themselves. As the original intention of photography, it honestly records everything a t the moment . There is no gaps and omissions in time, space and emotion. By the process of recording, a true and deep conversation of the persons being photographed is be discovered.

Why do you want to take the series works? I went to a concer t of Mayday last year. The band’s live performance attracted me strongly. To my great surprise, their magic power let people become agglomerate. We are all human being. However, Ashin

had the different power that all of Mayday’s fans, including me, were much influenced even though he seems so small on the big stage. One of their song is called “ S e c o n d R o u n d ” w h i c h the actor Mr.PXmart acted numerous different roles in the music video. Different roles, however, had similar lives. All of them do not satisfied with themselves and want to run away. Presumably, they need to take much courage to start over. I derived the idea of the works from the music video. The reason I did the works was my friends. I interested so many people I acquainted with, but I am not familiar with each other. Nowadays, Internet d e v e l o p m o r e , t h e f e w e r communication between people and people instead. The more I feel like know the person, the more I found how different he is from my thought. It seems that everyone has a mind to live the second round not the same as current one, or unknown

Page 41: PORTFOLIO OF CHILD WHO

41

f a n ’s h e a r t s o f t h e w o r l d through songs as I hope for photography. A love song is sung soul-stirring by singers. Similarly, I take photo to get sympathy with each other.

The se r i e s works seem to narrate internal and external differences of one person. Are you the same people that have the very differences between appearance and inner world? In fact, there is the secret one which has my selfie. It’s really about me. It shows the differences - - closer to real me, that is to say. Stay tuned! :D

Is the person in the photographs your friend? The beginning of the shoo-ting, people been photographed were usua l ly my Bus iness partners and close friends in contact with. As my earlier words, even though we met so often, I did not know much about them. I hope I can have better and more resects and love for them. I got many responses

to the works from friends on Internet. I interacted with them only on the Internet but never meet before. However, they shared their own stories which brought me my heart’s desire of photographing. Of course, I arranged the shooting time right away.

Each character has the scenery a n d p r o p e r t i e s r e p r e s e n t themselves. How did you decide the use of elements? I spent a lot of time in discussion with people I was going to photograph. We chat from thinking to ideas and past to future. The chats were always my inspiration. The images flashed through my mind appropriate for them. The work, in the main, still kept my original intention of photography. “Photograph to follow my inclinations and make it full myself.” Next to that, the works finished with personalities and temperament of person being photographed.

Page 42: PORTFOLIO OF CHILD WHO

42

Did they accept your self-technique of expressing them? I photographed the works neither for beauty or showing clashes, but self-revealing instead. Before shooting, I would tell them how to do. They need to express more emotions and more thoughts of self-reflection. It’s about the life of themselves which includes the ideal and hidden selves also the ones others were seen. The works’ importance is about themselves and their thoughts. According to them, we would discuss to add what elements in. The point

think who they are with whole heart. Actually, the works are like the narrations of the stories. If they had not given me more ideas or concealed themselves from me, I wouldn’t have started doing. As a result, I refused a few of my friends. I am proud to finish the photographs without any fake, but only very honestly. Besides, I used many different ways to make powerful tension, because of my thirst for catching not only emotions but also having photography techniques and value.

Page 43: PORTFOLIO OF CHILD WHO

43

Why you choose the way of tear and collage as the layout? It shows the desolation of breaking a surface. It’s kind of the pleasant feeling. Furthermore, the nature of human being is evil. The imperfection makes people feel regrettable and sick at heart.

It’s obviously to discover that you made your effort on the scenery and style. How long did the series works take? Honestly speaking, I had difficulty in many situations including meditating the distinguishing characteristics and styles for each other, making work scheduling, making preparations, busy and heavy rushes, renting locations and etc. Shooting only took a few minutes, but it was energy- consuming and brain cell- damaging when something unexpected happened. I couldn’t complete the works without the passion for photography and the help from the stylist. In addition, it’s not the end. It’s very welcome anyone has sympathy with me. Give me your ideas and let me photograph

Page 44: PORTFOLIO OF CHILD WHO

44

After 11 years photography work, have any effect on your creations? My world used to be very n a r r o w w h e n o w n i n g t h e clothing store. One year of my life just ran away during trade and sell, long-sleeved or short. After working in photography, it opened up the whole world to me. I made contacts with lots of industry, very different and unrelated, which all support and trust in me. Also, because of needs for work, I have traveled Taiwan from north to south and even went aboard. Therefore, I expanded my horizon so that I have seen more wonderful thing on earth. I am very happy. It’s very glad to choose my interest as a profession and be able to cont inue photographing j o y f u l l y . I a m a l w a y s headstrong. I lead my clients to any scene and guild them to any situation l want to photograph. (hahahahaha!!)Photography comes unexpected surprise, however, I quite enjoy it.“Photograph to follow my

inclinations and make it full myself.” I photograph what I want, and make effort to reach. Happiness is the most important thing no matter how hard and poor. How about achieving all? There must be the best thing in the world that I photograph I want and earn money. Does it really influence my creation? Of course, it makes me think more variously and abundantly.

Do have any plan for the future? The current life is the life I want most. Taking pictures let me happy. I lives ideal daily life and experience every moment. Even if tomorrow is my last day, I will do the same as yesterday. Plan? My only wish is to stay healthy and beautiful. Then, do one's human best and leave all else to God. Life is the process to death. However, the way of it is different from person to person. I think that it should create the living aesthetics of life. It is I, Fong Tai, who takes photography as an interest but not a job. Life is very beautiful.
