BACKGROUND

The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day")provides an opportunity for individuals,

organizations and nations to create practical acts

of peace on a shared date. It was established by

a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincidewith the opening of the General Assembly. The

first Peace Day was celebrated in September

1982.

In 2002 the General Assembly officially declaredSeptember 21 as the permanent date for the

International Day of Peace.

BACKGROUND

By creating the International Day of Peace,the UN devoted itself to worldwide peace

and encouraged all of mankind to work in

cooperation for this goal. During the

discussion of the U.N. Resolution that

established the International Day of Peace, it

was suggested that:

Peace Day should be devoted tocommemorating and strengthening the ideals

of peace both within and among all nations

and people.

Sustainable Future.

Sustainable Peace...

There can be no sustainable

future without a sustainable

peace. Sustainable peace mustbe built on sustainable

development.

From Sustainable Development

The root causes of manyconflicts are directly related

to or fuelled by valuable

natural resources, such asdiamonds, gold, oil, timber or

water.

Addressing the ownership,control and management of

natural resources is crucial

to maintaining security andrestoring the economy in

post-conflict countries

Good natural resource

management can play a

central role in building

sustainable peace in

post-conflict societies

For a Sustainable Future

The International Day of Peaceoffers people globally a shared

date to think about how,

individually, they can contribute

to ensuring that natural resources

are managed in a sustainable

manner, thus reducing potential

for disputes, and paving the roadto a sustainable future, the

Future we want

Sustainability was the theme

chosen because the worlds

population of 7 billion is likely

to increase to 9 billion by 2050

and the demand for diminishing

natural resources is growing.

Income gaps are widening.

Sustainability calls for a decent

standard of living for everyone

today without compromising the

needs of future generations.

The goal of building peaceful relationship

between and within nation, regions communities

and individuals seems extremely difficult tosurmount. Many nations today are faced with

social and political conflicts caused by rivalry

over ethnic, religious and territorial autonomy.

There are a lot of struggles against social and

economic injustices in many parts of the 3rdworld, evidence by movement of political

freedom. Global spread of militarization and the

deadly coast of nuclear power threatened human

life. Our natural resources continue to beexploited, mismanage and destroyed. People

suffered malnutrition, sickness, hunger and

poverty. These are tragic manifestation of

global peace-lessness.

The Social Teaching of the

Church says,Peace

demands therooting out of injustice

wherever it exists: between

individuals, between socialclasses, or between nations.

It is in the words of Pope Paul

VI, The FRUIT OF ORDER, anorder shaped by the values of

JUSTICE, TRUTH, FREEDOM and

LOVE.

CCF ADVOCACYPromoting the value of peace based

on justice, equality, and respectfor human rights through educating

our youth that peace is not

something we want for but somethingwe work for.

Empowering young people with new

skills to speak out the truth andopportunities to act for a peaceful

change.

Committing ourselves to live a

simple life, which means setting

aside personal inclination to

material possessions beyond

necessity because it is from the

desire to have everything materialthat prevent us from achieving a

culture of peace. We must live a

life anchored on justice, love,trust and freedom.

Working for the sustainable

development of our adoptedcommunities through a selfless

service in Literacy Program,

Family Integration, LivelihoodProgram, Renovation of Day Care

Center and Computer Literacy to

promote a sustainabledevelopment to attain

sustainable peace.

Organizing an intercultural

and inter-faith dialogue forour foreign students and

students who come from

different religiousdenominations. This will

promote peace and will bring

harmonious relationships to

avoid religious and cultural

conflicts.

CFE 1 INTEGRATION

The Ministry of Jesus, the Prince ofPeace, was rooted in His compassion

for peace, bringing into realization the

promise of Gods Salvation to thepeople by experiencing the joy of the

gift of life and His will for the people.

Jesus ministry about the kingdom ofGod, if realized will bring Justice and

Peace to the whole world.

The Kingdom of God is the realization

of a fundamental longing of the humanheart, the total transfiguration of this

world, free from all that alienates

human beings, free from pain, sin,division and death. He announced:

The time has come, the kingdom is at

hand. He is the Kingdom for He bringsPeace. Jesus common greeting was

Peace be with you and if peace is in

us we become a Peacemaker too.

NSTP 1 INTEGRATION

The sinful structures of the

community need to be address

and overcome because it willdefinitely impede its authentic

development. This will greatly

affect the sustainabledevelopment of the people.

Peace is something internal,

something felt and understood.

Peace is a state of order and

harmony within the individual

and the community. If Peacecannot be sustained in the

family and in the community, it

is very hard for the communityto achieve its sustainable

development.

If people live in Peace and

harmony, the community willbe a community of people

sharing love, life and

justice with one another.This will be of great help

in their decision-making in

trying to improve and

sustain development in the

community.

Peace building is the construction of

new environments and new cultures,

which transform deficient structuresand capabilities, which unite the

strengths of emerging innovations in

all pathways of our community life.Peace building creates and maintains

beneficial conditions for sustainable

development (life-enhancing and life-

enriching) social, economic, politicaland spiritual development of all

peoples.
