Mechanical Engineering may well be the broadest of the engineering disciplines. Traditionally, it has represented theinterdisciplinary application of basic scientific principles to human and technical problems. Mechanical engineers are
involved at some stage in the conception, design, production, finance and marketing of all manufactured goods, from
the largest power station, aircraft or car plant to the most delicate mechanisms required for scientific instruments, heart valves and microsurgery.
This MUT+TUOS programme prepares students for professional practice and research in an era of rapidly advancing
technology. A strong background in the basic and engineering sciences are combined with laboratory, computational, and design experience to develop professional independence, creativity, leadership, and the capacity for continuing
professional and intellectual growth.
Career Opportunities:Mechanical engineering graduates from the University of Sheffield will be sought after by theprestigious employers looking for high-quality and competent mechanical engineers such as Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Ove
Arup, Network Rail, Atkins and Deutsche Bank. Many graduates go into industry, particularly manufacturing, transport
and power generation, or work for engineering consultancies, in both technical and managerial roles.
