Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) is the public servicebroadcaster in the country, with Akashwani (All India Radio) and oordarshan as

its two constituents! It ca"e into e#istence on $%rd

&ove"ber ', with a"andate to organi*e and conduct public broadcasting services to infor", educateand entertain the public and to ensure a balanced develop"ent of broadcastingon radio and television!

Objectives

+he "aor obectives of the Prasar Bharati Corporation as laid out in thePrasar Bharati Act, '- are as follows.

(i) /pholding unity and integrity of the country and the values

enshrined in the Constitution!

(ii) Pro"oting national integration!

(iii) 0afeguarding citi*ens1 rights to be infor"ed on all "atters of publicinterest and presenting a fair and balanced flow of infor"ation!

(iv) Paying special attention to the fields of education and spread of literacy, agriculture, rural develop"ent, environ"ent, health 2fa"ily welfare and science 2 technology!

(v) Creating awareness about wo"en1s issues and taking special stepsto protect the interests of children, aged and other vulnerablesections of the society!

(vi) Providing ade3uate coverage to the diverse cultures, sports andga"es and youth affairs!

(vii) Pro"oting social ustice, safeguarding the rights of working classes,"inorities and tribal co""unities!

(viii) 4#panding broadcasting facilities and pro"oting research anddevelop"ent in broadcast technology!

+he Corporation is governed by Prasar Bharati Board, which co"prises aChair"an, an 4#ecutive 5e"ber (also known as Chief 4#ecutive 6fficer),a 5e"ber (7inance), a 5e"ber (Personnel), si# part8ti"e 5e"bers, a



representative of the 5inistry of Infor"ation 2 Broadcasting and irectors9eneral of All India Radio and oordarshan as e#8officio 5e"bers!

+he Chair"an is a part ti"e "e"ber with a si# year tenure! +he4#ecutive 5e"ber, the 5e"ber (7inance) and the 5e"ber (Personnel)

proposals and decisions thereon! 6fficers fro" different strea"s working in thePrasar Bharati 0ecretariat assist the C46, the 5e"ber (7inance) and the5e"ber (Personnel) in integrating actions, operations, plans and policyi"ple"entation as well as look after the budget, accounts and general financial"atters of the Corporation!

Prasar Bharati also has a unified vigilance set up at the head3uarters, headed bya Chief <igilance 6fficer!

Prasar Bharati 5arketing offices located at 5u"bai, &ew elhi, =olkata,Chennai, Bangalore and ?yderabad look after "arketing activities of both AllIndia Radio and oordarshan!

+o facilitate decision "aking, the Policy 2 4#ecutive Co""ittee (earlier known as5anage"ent Co""ittee) chaired by the C46, has been constituted for bothoordarshan and AIR!

+he irectorate 9eneral of All India Radio and the irectorate 9eneral of oordarshan are headed by the irectors 9eneral! +hey function in closeassociation with the 5e"ber (7inance), the 5e"ber (Personnel) and the C46, incarrying out the day to day affairs of AIR and oordarshan!
