Pre-show Press Conference of TIMTOS 2013 Remarks by Mr. Reyming Tu,

Deputy Executive Director, Exhibition Department, TAITRA

Chairman Lu of TAMIs Machine Tool Committee, TAMIs President Mr.

Wang, ladies and gentlemen, and dear friends from the media, good

    morning!

To begin with, on behalf of TAITRA, I welcome you to the pre-show press

    conference of TIMTOS 2013.

The 24th TIMTOS is a six-day joint TAITRA-TAMI event. It unfolds next

    March 5th to March 10th to platform a record-breaking 960 exhibitors who

    are using 5,300 booths.

The record high demand for show space is reflected in the fact that all

booths were fully booked this April just days after applications opened.

The coming TIMTOS will reach record scale to become Taiwans largest -

and Asias second-largest machine tool event. Its set to blanket TWTC

Exhibition Halls 1, 2 & 3 and NANGANG Exhibition Hall.

TIMTOS 2013 joins exhibitors from 17 countries. They come from

Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Spain, the U.S.A., South Korea, India,

  • 12

Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Turkey, Vietnam,

    Finland and (of course) Taiwan.

There are 196 exhibitors who are based outside of Taiwan, with the star

among them being the Trade Office of Swiss Industries (TOSI), who is

setting up its national pavilion for the 11th consecutive year. Their prime

attraction at NANGANG Exhibition Hall features 98 booths staffed by 18

    exhibitors.

Meanwhile, a 20-booth German Pavilion and a 32-booth China Pavilion

has been added to the show. At the same time theres a full line-up of

renowned Taiwan names, including Hartford, Victor Taichung, YCM,

Tongtai, QUASER, AWEA, CHEVALIER, CHMER, SEYI, CHIN FONG,

    HIWIN, and Keyarrow.

And from outside of Taiwan, theres a world of other great global names

at the show; including OKUMA, MAZAK, DMG, YASDA, JTEKT,

TOYODA, SODICK, MITSUBISHI, TRUMPF, KUKA, FANUC, SIEMENS

    HEIDENHAIN and BOSCH.

TAITRA has constantly endeavored to assist Taiwan machine-tool

companies to take off on the global market.

  • 13

To achieve this we have ceaselessly worked to promote TIMTOS and

Taiwan makers at almost every important machine tool event. We went to

Chicago for IMTS 2012 (the International Manufacturing Technology

Show) and flew to Tokyo for the JIMTOF (Japan International Machine

Tool Fair). We talked up Taiwan machinery and TIMTOS at seminars in

India, Turkey, Russia, and in many other growth centers.

Meanwhile TAITRA has turned on its 57 global trade offices around the

world, to fly in key buyers for the forthcoming TIMTOS procurement

meetings. To attract them we have allotted special incentive subsidies

and added in-depth city tours. This partly explains why TIMTOS next

March is projected to attract 40,000 visitors from Taiwan and more than

    5,500 oversea visitors.

Dazzling growth for the show and industry has set the pace for success.

In the first eight months of this year, Taiwan machine-tool exports rose

9.3% on the same period last year. This years eight months of exports

totaled almost US$3 billion, with almost a third of that going to China.

Meanwhile, Taiwan exports to the emerging markets saw the strongest

growth. For example, in the first eight months of this year Taiwan

machine-tool exports to Thailand grew 59% on last year. And in the same

period the Turkish market grew by more than 19%. Indonesia grew by

almost 29%, and Malaysia by 6.3%.

  • 14

This growth underscores the fame Taiwan machine tools have won for

quality and value. And its at TIMTOS where buyers can scout this

excellence and where industry can connect an exclusive market.

Its an honor to have the opportunity to meet all of you here today from

industry and the press, and I thank you for your support and assistance.

I wish you all good health, success and luck in the coming year.

Pre-show Press Conference of TIMTOS 2013 Remarks by Mr. Alan Lu,

Chairman of Machine Tool Committee, TAMI

Mr. Tu, ladies and gentlemen and dear friends from the press, good

    morning.

Its a great honor to join you, and on behalf of TAMI and all the

participants of TIMTOS 2013, I would like to welcome you all to this

pre-show press conference for TIMTOS, the 24th Taipei International

    Machine Tool Show.

Last year was a prosperous year for main machine tool manufacturers,

especially in Germany, USA, Japan and Taiwan. In 2011, Taiwans overall

production value as well as its export and import value for the machine

tool industry achieved significant increases. Production value grew a

quarter over last year to reach 5.04 billion US dollars. Meanwhile, export

value in 2011 reached 4 billion US dollars, a 35.1% increase compared

on the same period in 2010. And this trend has continued with Taiwans

export value from the industry (from last January to October) reaching

3.5 billion US dollars, a 9.2% growth from the same period in 2010.

China continues to be Taiwans main export destination, with January to

October export value reaching 1.2 billion US dollars, a 2.8% growth on

  • 16

the same period last year. The US is Taiwans second largest export

destination of machine tools; with export value to that the USA reaching

0.4 billion US dollars, a 68.0% growth on the same period of the previous

    year.

Meanwhile, Thailand ranked third in Taiwan export value. Imports to that

market reached 0.2 billion US dollars, a 59.6% growth on 2010. This year

overall export value of Taiwan machine tools is projected to grow 8-9% to

reach a value of 4.4 billion US dollars.

The most pressing challenge faced by the domestic industry is the price

fluctuations in castings, much of which is caused by increasing utility

rates. Other barriers include shifting NT US dollar exchange rates, the

Eurozone and Korea signing a free trade agreement- FTA (Free Trade

Agreement), Korea and the US signing a FTA, and various Korea-India

trade agreements. All of this burdens the global competitiveness of

Taiwan machine tools, especially on the US, Indian and Eurozone

    markets.

But Taiwan manufacturers have shown time again that they can

overcome such hurdles. And one way has been to turn on its edge in

creating innovative products. Thats why the next TIMTOS will open a

stunning showcase for fascinating products embedded with the latest

    technologies.

  • 17

Manufacturers in Taiwan are eager to demonstrate not only their

innovative products but also their excellent abilities in customization. And

such advantages definitely strengthen global competitiveness.

Im also glad to learn of the tremendous feedback and applications we

have received in the run up to the Taiwan Machine Tool Industry Awards

for Excellence in Research & Innovation which unfolds with the show.

This endeavor will help make TIMTOS 2013 the best show yet.

Finally I thank TAITRA, our co-organizer, for the countless hours of work

they have put into TIMTOS 2013, and offer my appreciation for the

support from industry and our dear and distinguish guests and friends

    from the media.

I extend my best wishes to the success of this exhibition and the best of

    your success at the show.

The products at TIMTOS embody the stuff that makes great ideas great,

namely, quality, innovation, reliability and efficiency. And the 24th TIMTOS

(Taipei Intl Machine Tool Show) is going all out to win the hearts, minds

and shop floors of the industry.

This event stars 960 direct exhibitors who are using more than 5,300

booths. The show runs from 5th to 10th March 2013 and is co- hosted by

TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) and TAMI (Taiwan

    Association for Machinery Industry).

TIMTOS was previously known as "Taiwan Machine Sales Promotion

Exhibition", since its establishment in 1975, the size of the show and

levels of participating products have grown steadily throughout the years.

Next year, TIMTOS will break records across the slate in terms of number

of exhibitors, scale and visitors. It now ranks among the top five machine

    tool events in the world.

  • 21

One touchstone for success has been that exhibitor applications for

TIMTOS, which start last April, were fully booked out within a week.

Along with strong participation from across Taiwan, the greats in machine

tools from 17 other countries have also signed on for this geat event.

Countries includes leading machine tool crafters from Switzerland,

Germany, Italy, Japan, the USA, Austria and several other nations.

TIMTOS will cover a total space of 90,000 sqm at Taipei World Trade

Center Hall 1, 2, 3 and the NANGANG Exhibition Hall.

One secret of success for the show is TAITRAs mobilization of its 57

world branches to invite key buyers while promoting the event to target

markets in Indonesia, Turkey, Russia, India, Brazil, Philippine, United

Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. It is projected that more than 5,500

visitors from overseas and 40,000 domestic visitors will visit the venue.

A winning feature has been the shows constant drive to inspire quality

and innovation. This year for example comes the "Taiwan Machine Tools

Industry Award 2013 for Excellence in Research and Innovation" where

58 businesses have entered 61 top products in the competition. Products

compete in four separate categories: machining centers, CNC lathes,

other NC machine tools and key components for CNC machine tools.

  • 22

And this year the contest adds an entire new category opens dedicated

to "key components" for CNC machine tools. The fresh category has

drawn participating firms like Hiwin, Taiwan Keyarrow, Gifu, Habor and

Wexten. All competing products in all categories undergo three months of

strict review and evaluation, with the winners being announced next

    March at TIMTOS.

For many the climax will be the one-on-one procurement meetings and

industry seminars will be held during the exhibition where massive

contracts will be hashed out and signed, and where innovative ideas will

    be announced and shared.

To add convenience in getting around, visitors can now use a new

TIMTOS app that lets them navigate the show more efficiently. The app

supports a full functions related to floor plan/exhibitors/products searches,

daily schedule planning, follow-ups on past negotiations and

event/shuttle bus scheduling. This new TIMTOS app can be downloaded

    starting February, 2013.
