Wins at the TT just keep on coming for the living legend that is John McGuinness, and two morevictories came his way 12 months ago when he again topped the Joey Dunlop TT Championship. The

second most successful rider in the history of the TT, the Morecambe man has the skill, experience

and machinery to enable him to have more of the same this time around although two extremely

strong team-mates, amongst others, will push him harder than ever. Back with Padgetts Honda for the

Superstock and Supersport races, the now 41-year old will also be challenging for a debut victory in

the TT Zero race with the improved Mugen Honda.

Fastest TT Lap: 128.717mph (14th)

After a long absence, Rutter is now back amongst the regulars at the TT and whilst hes been knocking

on the door of the top six, and getting close to his best, hes thus far had to settle for the lower

leaderboard places. However, thats all set to change in 2013 now hes back with Honda and few would

bet against him cracking the 130mph barrier and being back on the podium in the 1000cc races. The

Midlands rider will again ride for KMR Kawasaki in the Lightweight, where hell be amongst the race

favourites, whilst SMT Racing will supply him with a Superstock machine.

With three TT wins now to his name , Dunlop arrives at this years event as a fully-fledged, and

deserving, factory Honda rider in the Superbike races. Still only 24, hell have every chance of reaching

even greater heights and gaining his rst win in either the Superbike or Senior races so its fair to say

his threat in 2013 will be greater than ever before. Retaining the support of Hunts Motorcycles and

McAdoo Racing, Dunlop will also go into the Supersport and Superstock races as a potential race

winner so this year could be his best ever year on the Island.

PREVIEW : SOLOS

Last years Isle of Man TT Races, powered by Monster Energy, saw some of

the best racing ever seen on the legendary Mountain Course. Whilst thats an

ongoing trend weve all now become accustomed to, its clear that no stone is

being left unturned to ensure that the 2013 event is better still. Make no mistake,

these are exciting times for the Isle of Man TT as it continues to reinforce

its status as, quite simply, the greatest motorcycle road race in the world.

A move to the Padgetts Racing team in 2011 revitalised Anstey and last year saw him chalk upyet another TT win, his ninth in total, after getting the better of Cameron Donald in the opening

Supersport race by just 0.77s, the second closest nish ever. Now 44, Anstey is as rapid as ever but

Superbike success continues to elude him and whilst he knows, on his day, he has the pace to run at

the front, he also knows time is running out to do so as the newer, younger breed look to relegate the

older guard to the minor placings. Laid back as always, Anstey can never be written off and he ll come

into TT2013 capable of winning any of the races he starts.

Simon Andrews, 29

TT Record: Debut in 2011 - best nish of 11th


Andrews impressed greatly in his debut in 2011 when he took a brace of 11ths and ended the week

as the second fastest newcomer ever but the pitfalls of the TT were brought home all too much last

year when he got caught out in the Superbike race on the Honda TT Legends machine and suffered

a nasty crash at the Les Graham Memorial. The injuries kept him out for ve months but hes back in

2013 and whilst he retains the support of Honda, he does so in the less-pressurised environment of

the RAF Reserves Racing team. Has all the potential to be a TT star but needs to rebuild again this

year and get some solid results under his belt.

Fastest TT Lap: 131.511mph (2nd)

Its all change at Shaun Muirs Yamaha team with new sponsors, new colours and new riders withCummins having left Suzuki and looking for his debut TT win with the Milwaukee Yamaha team. The

26-year old was forced to watch from the sidelines last year, legacy of hand injuries sustained at the

North West 200 but the second half of 2012 showed hes back to his best with podiums at the Ulster

GP and Southern 100. The last few years havent been the kindest to the Ramsey man so hell be hungry

for success in 2013 and keen to get back amongst the podium places. Hell also be gunning for glory

in the Lightweight race on board one of Ryan Farquhars rapid KMR Kawasakis.

TEAM MILWAUKEE YAMAHA SUPERBIKE TEAM

William Dunlop, 27

After two years on Honda machinery, Dunlop makes the switch to Yamaha and the Milwaukee team

in a bid to secure his debut TT win. Twelve months ago he took his rst podium around the Mountain

Course in the opening Supersport race although he admitted nerves prevented him from challenging

for the win. With more experience under his belt, both on and off the track, Dunlop will again be a

pre-race favourite in the 600cc division but expect to see the 27-year old pushing hard in the 1000cc

races as well where hes eager to prove his full capabilities.

Johnson has gone back to running his own team in 2013, a formula that saw him reap the rewards two

years ago when he won the opening Superspor t race. Working in an environment that suits him best,

the amiable Lincolnshire rider has shrewdly chosen Honda and Kawasaki machinery for the Superbike

and Superstock races, arguably the best two bikes in each category, whilst the Supersport races will

see him line up on the all-new MV Agusta where hes sure to benet from the exper tise of proven race

winners ValMoto. Concentrating on the road races this year, Johnson also has an entry in the Lightweight

race and is sure to be amongst the front runners in a ll six of his races this year.

Enigmatic as ever, 2012 was a disappointing year for Martin and a fter crashing out of the North West

200, the TT saw him only manage a best result of fourth, the rst time since 2006 hed failed to nish

on the podium. Keen to shake off the nearly man tag, the Lincolnshire has seen himself upstaged by

some of his younger rivals recently and having been once the man most likely to topple McGuinness

in the Superbike category, hes now one of many look ing to do tha t. Remaining with Tyco Suzuki for a

third successive year, Martin now has continuity in his r acing and will no doubt come back strong in

2013 as he aga in goes in search of that debut TT win.

Fastest TT Lap: 122.185mph

Scottish rider Storrar has been a front runner in the British Superstock 1000cc Championship forthe last four seasons, taking countless podiums and, after a number of top ten nishes at the Macau

Grand Prix, he made his TT debut last year. Despite a number of mechanical problems, the 26-year old

lapped impressively in excess of 122mph to indicate hes a TT star of the future and its that potential

that has seen him snapped up by Wilson Craig Honda. One to watch, Storrar has everything in place

to make a name for himself at TT2013.

One of the stars of road racing in 2012, Hillier has gone about his business in a quiet, unassuming

manner which has ultimately seen him reap the rewards and establish himself amongst the top

echelons of the spor t. Winner of the Newcomers Trophy in 2008, Hillier has now cemented his place

as one of the leading road racers currently on the entry list and his consistency has seen him become

an ever-present nisher in the top ten and regularly push for top six positions. Still only 27, his 2012

season was his best yet and he deservedly took his debut TT podium in last years Lightweight race

whilst 2013 should see him challenge for further rostrum nishes.

From: Braddan, Isle of ManTT Record: Debut in 2009 - best nish of 5th


Along with Cummins, Manxman Kneen shoulders the hopes of the home nation and he continues to

produce some excellent performances against the better-nanced, factory teams. A switch to Suzuki

power looked like it would give him best ever result as he challenged for a podium in last years opening

Supersport race before he fell foul to a damp patch exiting Governors Bridge and the resulting injuries

kept him out of action for the fol lowing two months. With more experience with the Suzukis, expect

a fully t Kneen to again be pushing hard for top six results and to feature prominently in every race.

Now in the twilight of his career, 2013 will amazingly be Loughers 29th year of TT competition andalthough the glory days may now be behind him, hes still more than capable of nishing inside the

top six as he proved in last years opening Supersport race. With more TT starts (currently 121)

than any other rider what the Welshman doesnt know isnt worth knowing and whilst a 30th TT

podium may be out of reach, he can again be expected to chalk up a whole host of top ten nishes.

A podium in last years Ulster Grand Prix shows that on his day hell be up front but the Lightweight

race will probably give him his best result this time around.

David Johnson, 29

Australian rider Johnson was a revelation in his TT debut in 2010, winning ve bronze replicas from

his ve starts to deservedly win the prestigious Newcomers Trophy that year. He also became the

third fastest newcomer in the process and although he was forced to miss the 2011 event he was

back in 2012, putting in two excellent rides as he claimed a brace of top fteen nishes. Lapping at

close to 126mph, the Adelaide man has all the potential to crack the top ten this year and spring a

surprise or two so expect him to do exactly that.

Karl Harris, 33

TT Record: Debut in 2012 - best nish of 21st


Three times British Supersport Champion and a British Superbike Championship regular for almost

a decade, many were surprised when Harris expressed his desire to go road racing but he silenced all

the doubters with some solid, mature riding in 2012 when he picked up two bronze replicas and lapped

at over 121mph. The Shefeld rider approached the Mountain Course in the perfect manner and will

do so again in 2013, aiming to build on what he learned last year and progress fur ther still. Theres no

reason why he wont end the week inside the top fteen as he continues on his upward trajectory.

Dan Stewart, 37

Consistently one of the leading privateers, Stewarts efforts were rewarded in TT2012 when he wonthe TT Privateers Trophy after dominating that particular category and another clutch of top ten

nishes came his way. The Cumbrian motorcycle dealer has been snapped up for this years event

by ex-British Superbike Championship team SMT Racing and the combination of their technical

support and team-set-up along with Stewarts skill and knowledge around the Mountain Course

should see him have his best ever week on the Island. Dont be surprised to see him better his

previous best result of sixth.

Jamie Hamilton, 22

Hamiltons debut in 2012 saw him experience mixed fortunes with two retirements in the 1000cc

races off set by a brilliant tenth and the Newcomers Trophy in the Lightweight race . The second half

of the season saw him get better and better and achieve some excellent results at all of the road race

meetings he contested so he comes back to the Island in 2013 with h igh hopes. Still only 22, Hamilton

has the all the makings of a future TT star so expect more progression in the 600cc and 1000cc races

and a surprise or two in the Lightweight race. Continues to enjoy the support of Ryan Farquhar and

the KMR Kawasaki team, something that can only benet his career.

Fastest TT Lap: 126.323mph (23rd)

Since making hi s debut in 2009, Mercer has become a smooth and consistent TT performer, building

on his results and speeds year on year, so much so hes now rmly knocking on the door of a top ten

position. Twelfth in the Superbike race for the la st two seasons, the chirpy Kent rider lapped in excess

of 126mph last year and has been rewarded for his efforts with a ride in the Penz13.Com BMW team

run by ex-racer Rico Penzkofer. If he can tame the BMW around the Mountain Course, expect his

performances to be better again and keep an eye on him in the Supersport races too where he rides

a T3 Racing Triumph.

05 PREVIEW : NEWCOMERS PREVIEW : NEWCOMERS

A year later, he switched to the inaugural Superstock 600cc Championship, claiming a win at Oulton

Park and three more podiums on his way to an excellent fourth place overall. Three seasons in theBritish Supersport Championship followed, nishing 13th overall in 2009 with six top ten nishes,

including a career best of fourth.

2010 and 2011 saw him nish in 11th place overall in the ercely competitive class, with a combined

total of fourteen top ten nishes, and although a lack of nance kept him out of action during 2012,

the exciting 24-year old arrives on the I sland with great pedigree. The exciting youngster will race for

Mick Charnocks TC Racing Honda/DP Coldplaning outt with 600cc and 1000cc Hondas for the

Superbike, Supersport, Superstock and Senior races.

Gavin Hunt

Manxman Hunt will make his much anticipated debut at the Isle of Man TT, after impressing in the

British Superstock 1000cc Championship where hes been a regular points scorer since 2009. However,

hes also contested the North West 200 road races where he made his debut in 2010, taking a best

nish of 15th in the Superstock race. He also took 16th in the opening Superbike race and recorded

another impressive top twenty nish in the second Supersport race.

Son of former TT star and Senior Manx Grand Prix winner and current travelling marshal Paul Hunt,

the Braddan rider will make his debut on the Mountain Course for the JAR Kawasaki team and will

campaign a ZX-10R Kawasaki in the Dainese Superbike, Royal London 360 Superstock and Pokerstars

Senior races. The 26-year old is sure to benet from the tutelage of his father who competed at the

TT between 1986 and 2008, taking a best nish of 4th in the 2005 Superstock race.

Branko Srdanov

At just 24 years of age, Srdanov is one of the sports brightest road racing talents and will arrive on the Island

as the reigning International Road Racing Champion having taken the 2012 Superbike title by two points

from previous holder Didier Grams. One of his most impressive performances came at the Terlicko circuit

in the Czech republic where he took a double in the IRRC Superbike class plus the win in the Supersport

event to pick up the Man of the Meeting award.

A further race win was taken at Chimay with podiums added at Schleiz, Hengelo and Frohburg; indeed, he

nished on the podium in all ten of the races held during the 2012 season. A regular in the German IDM

Superbike Championship, 2012 saw him contest the Macau Grand Prix where he had his rst ride on the

Ice Valley BMW going on to nish in a ne 13th place and he ll make his TT debut for the same team in the

Dainese Superbike, Royal London 360 Superstock and Pokerstars Senior races.

Jonathan Howarth

Having started his racing career in 2003, Howarth won club Championships at Darley Moor before

moving into the National Superstock Cup where he achieved a best result of 6th overall in 2007, which

included podium nishes at Thruxton and Cadwell Park. In 2008, he moved up to the feature British

Superstock 1000cc Championship where he has remained ever since, consistently moving himself up

the leaderboard and becoming a regular top 15 nisher.

Riding rstly for his own privately run team and more latterly for Team Green Kawasaki, his best results

came in 2011 when he claimed a superb 11th place overall with results including fth at Oulton Park

and top ten nishes at Thruxton, Snetterton and Donington Park. The 29-year old has previously

contested the North West 200 road races, acquitting himself well around the high-speed venue in

Northern Ireland, lapping in excess of 112mph on his way to achieving a bes t nish of 21st in the 2010

Superstock race. Hailing from Barnsley in Yorkshire, Howarth will ride a 1000cc Kawasaki for Sheff

Pack Kawasaki in all three 1000cc races.

Josh Brookes

Leading British Superbike Championship racer Brookes will make his debut at the Isle of Man TT for

the Tyco Suzuki team and is, without doubt, one of the most exciting newcomers to have graced the

Mountain Course in recent years.

Runner-up in last years BSB title race, the Australian burst onto the racing scene when he won a

World Supersport round at Phillip Island as a wildcard in 2004. He went on to win the Australian

Superbike and Supersport domestic titles in 2005 before spending two seasons in the World Superbike

Championship and then taking third in a ercely competitive World Supersport Championship in 2008.

A year later he moved to BSB, rstly with HM Plant Honda and then the Suzuki team, and has since

racked up 11 race wins and 50 podiums being a championship contender in each season.

The 29-year-old rst visited the TT in 2009, but after experiencing the atmosphere during the TT in

2011 and 2012, and participating in parade laps on the Mountain course , he now feels the time is right

to add his name to the entry list.

Michael Pearson

Another Irish rider to switch his allegiance from short circuits to the roads, Pearson won the 2004

Irish Superbike Championship but has since enjoyed great success on the public road courses across

the British Isles. One of only 17 riders to have lapped the Ulster Grand Prix course of Dundrod in

excess of 130mph, 35-year old Pearson has taken numerous top ten positions around the high-speedcircuit whilst hes also become a regular at Olivers Mount, Scarborough where he clinched the 2009

Cock o the North Trophy.

Further success has come in the Irish National Road Race Championships with a win at Killalane anda number of other podiums which has seen him nish in the top six overall of both the Superbike and

Supersport Championships. The Lisbrun rider, who has also competed at the Southern 100 and Macau

Grand Prix, nally gets to make his TT debut this year and will compete in all classes for Team Hotties.

Horst Saiger

Exciting Austrian rider Saiger will make his Mountain Circuit debut in June when he competes in all three

1000cc races. The 41-year old, who will run his own team with support from Kawasaki Switzerland, already

has considerable road racing experience under his belt having been a regular at the Macau Grand Prix over

the last few seasons, recording a superb fth place at last years event, a career best result.

In addition, he made a sensational debut at the 2012 North West 200 road races where he competed inthe two Superstock races taking a best nish of 10th in the second Superstock race whilst he also has a

formidable record in the in the Endurance World Championship where his results include second overall

in 2010, third in 2009 and fourth in 2004 and 2006 with podiums and numerous top ve nishes at the Le

Mans 24- Hour, Bol dOr, 8 Hours of Oschersleben, 8 Hours of Qatar and 8 Hours of Albacete. National

champion of Switzerland for the past two seasons, Saiger has also competed in the World Superbike

Championship and at the Daytona 200.

AJ Venter

South African star Venter has been racing in the British Championship since 2007 when he took seven

impressive points-scoring rides in the National Superstock 1000cc Championship.

Steven Michels

Like Srdanov, German rider Michels is a product of the International Road Race Championship having

nished fth overall in 2012, his rst season of racing on the roads. Despite missing the nal round, the

22-year old scored well throughout the season and, after taking a win at the opening round a t Schleiz,

he went on to take further podium positions at Hengelo and Chimay and only nished outside of

the top ve once. Part of the ambitious TeamPenz13.Com squad, the young German initially starred

in the 125cc Red Bull Rookies Cup, before becoming a regular top ten nisher in the German IDM

Superbike and Supersport Championships. Like Srdanov, hell contest the Dainese Superbike, Royal

London 360 and Pokerstars Senior races.

Sam Wilson

More readily associated with the two-strokes, Northern Irelands Sam Wilson has starred in the 125cc

class in his home country, culminating in victory in the 2012 125cc Irish Road Race Championship

after taking two wins and eight podiums during the course of the season. However, the 21-year old

also had frequent outings in the Supersport class, impressing at the Ulster Grand Prix, in particular,

with a 120mph+ lap and the Cullybackey rider will make his TT debut in the two 600cc races this June.

Daley Mathison

Like Wilson, English rider Ma thison made his name in the 125cc and 250cc division, rstly at Olivers Mount,

Scarborough and then at the Irish National Road Races. The County Durham rider has enjoyed some

strong showings in the 250cc class at the Ulster Grand Prix, the highlight being fourth in 2010, but he has

since moved onto the four-strokes and it is here where he wi ll make his debut, riding a Honda Fireblade in

all three 1000cc races. Still only 21, Mathison has a lot of road racing experience under his belt and will no

doubt make good progress during the course of TT fortnight.

Petre Pop

Pop will make history at the 2013 Isle of Man TT Races when he becomes the rst Romanian to compete

on the Island and will compete in both of the Supersport races. The 24-year old has steadily been building

on his results in his homeland af ter switching from motocross and having nished thi rd in 2011, he won the

2012 Romanian Superbike Championship in ne style. Petre will no doubt wish to follow in the footsteps and

emulate the achievements of fellow Eastern European rider Piotr Betlej, who lapped at over 120mph in 2011.

Cheung Wai On

Further history will be created this year when China, like Romania, has its rst entrant at the TT with

Cheung Wai On making his debut on an ER6 Kawasaki in the Lig htweight race. The 31-year old had a

successful spell in the 125cc class in the UK and Australia, also contesting a number of 125cc Grands Prix

as a wildcard, before returning to his homeland and enjoying success in the Supersport category. The 31-

year old has also been a regular at the Macau Grand Prix since 2004.

Juha Kallio

Its been almost 20 years since a Finnish rider took part in the TT (Timo Paavilinen in the 1994 Supersport

600cc race) but the Scandanavian country will be back at the TT in 2013 with Juha Kallio set to make

his debut in the Supersport and Lightweight races. Kallio recently competed in the British Supersport

Championship and will be part of the JHS Racing team where hes sure to benet from the advice of team-

mate and former Manx Grand Prix winner Dave Moftt.

Rafael Paschaolin

Having already competed at the North West 200 and Macau Grand Prix, Rafael Paschaolins road racing

schooling will reach i ts peak in June when he contests the TT for the very rst time. One of South Americas

leading Superbike riders, the 29-year old will compete in all three 1000cc races.

The legendary Isle of Man TT has attracted teams, riders and fans

from around the world for more than 100 years and 2013 will be no

exception with a truly International line up assembled once more.


Success for competitors from overseas was again in abundance 12 months ago with Kiwi Bruce Anstey

claiming his 9th, and New Zealands 16th, TT victory whilst Cameron Donald added three more

podiums to Australias already impressive haul. Italian, French and Spanish competitors also turned in

impressive performances.

2013 will see the Antipodean due back for more and whilst riders from the British Isles, naturally,

dominate the entry list theres a healthy blend of overseas talent added to the mix, some now

established as quality TT competitors, some embarking on the journey for the very rst time.

Riders from all four corners of the globe will again be tackling the 37 and -mile Mountain Course

in June with entries received from all bar one of the seven continents in the World, with some of thecountries having representation at the TT for the very rst time in its 106-year history.

Indeed, the two weeks in June this year will see no less than 25 solo participants from Europe, North

America, South America, Asia, Africa and Australasia involved with a further 15 European competitors

in the F2 Sidecar class.

China, Romania and Brazil are represented for the rst time whilst Holland and Finland have their

name on the entry list for the rst time in 16 and 19 years respectively, all of them striving to obtain

their own personal goals.

07 OVERSEAS RIDERS PRESS 2013

Italy

Theres increased Italian presence at this years TT on the manufacturing front with MV Agusta returning to

the Supersport class and although theres only one rider on the entry list, Stefano Bonetti is edging ever close

to a debut top ten nish.

Austria

The Alpine country has increased representation at TT2013 with exciting newcomer Horst Saiger competing

for the rst time in the 1000cc races. Having excelled at Macau and the North West 200, much is expected of

Saiger and hes joined on the entry list by Michael Grabmuller and Manfred Weschelberger who will take part

in the two F2 Sidecar races for the third time.

South Africa

Runner-up in the British Supersport and Superstock Championships, South African Hudson Kennaugh had a

strong debut in 2010 with a near 122mph lap and so will be hoping to get back to that form this time around.

Hes joined this year by AJ Venter who makes his debut for Mick Charnocks TC Racing/DP Coldp laning outt.

Japan

Despite suffering a nasty spill on his debut at in 2009, Japans Yoshinari Matsushita has since become a TT

regular and this year will be his fourth time at the event. Continuing with BMW power and Rico Penzkofers

TeamPenz13.Com squad, the ever-smiling Matsu will be hoping to make further progress in the 1000cc races

and better both his previous results and speeds. Hell again be on the start line for the TT Zero race too.

New Zealand

One of the most successful overseas nations to have competed at the TT, with riders including Hugh Anderson,

Graeme Crosby, Dennis Ireland and Robert Holden all having graced the top step of the podium, the most

successful of all is Bruce Anstey and the Wellington rider will again come into TT2013 as one of the pre-event

favourites. With nine wins and 24 podiums already to his name, Anstey continues with the Padgetts Honda

team whilst fellow countryman Daniel Jansen again joins him on the entry list.

Australia

Like their fellow Antipodean nation, Australia has a rich vein of success around the Mountain Course and

Cameron Donald became the latest to win a race when he took two victories at the 2008 event. Since then,

Donald has taken numerous podiums, including three runners up spots 12 months ago, and hell be determinedto take his third win this time around. David Johnson could well make it two Australians in the top ten after

two superb rides in 2012 and whilst the third Australian is a newcomer he could well grab all the headlines as

hes one of the most exciting debutantes ever to have graced the Island Josh Brookes.

USA

Comfortably the most successful TT rider to have come from the United States, Californian Mark Miller will

again be going for glory in the TT Zero race aboard one of the Moto Czysz machines. Hes more than proved

himself on the conventional bikes though as well, remaining the fastest American to have lapped the Mountain

Course along with winning 17 replicas and will again campaign the Splitlath Aprilias in the 1000cc races. Hes again

joined by Brandon Cretu, who continues to make good progress year on year, as well as Chris Sarbora who makes

a welcome return to the Supersport and Lightweight races having crashed out of last years opening 600cc race.

08 OVERSEAS RIDERS PRESS 2013

Holland

Branko Srdanov makes his Mountain Course debut this year and the 24-year old arrives with a good reputa tion

having won the 2012 International Road Race Championship and will contest all three 1000cc races.

Romania

For the rst time ever, Romania will have representation at the TT with Petre Pop making his debut. The 24-year

old is one his countrys best riders having won the Romanian Superbike Championship in 2012.

China

Further history will be created this year when Chinas Cheung Wai On becomes the countrys rst TT entrant.

The 31-year old had a successful spell in the 125cc class, contesting a number of 125cc Grands Prix as a wildcard.

Hungary

After being forced to miss TT2012 due to injury, Sandor Bitter returns for his fth TT.

Finland

The Scandanavian country will be back at the TT in 2013 after a 20 year break with Juha Kallio.

Brazil

One of South Americas leading Superbike riders, the 29-year old Rafael Paschaolin makes his TT debut.

France lead the way in terms of quantity for mainland Europe with no less than 13 entries, 12 of which come in

Germany

Germany has a presence at this years TT in the shape of newcomer Stephen Michels who nished fth overall in

the International Road Race Championship. Hes joined by World Sidecar Championship regular Mike Roscher.

Switzerland

After a practice spill last year, former World Endurance and European Superstock Championship competitor

Herve Gantner will be looking to get back to top form with Rico Penzkofers highly professional BMW team.

Spain

Spains Antonio Maeso made a successful return to the TT in 2012, collecting four more bronze replicas.

Argentina

Argentinian David Paredes returns after one year out, aiming to add to his haul of nine bronze replicas.

Portugal

Nuno Caetano enjoyed a solid TT debut in 2012 and he returns, contesting all six solo races on Kawasakis.

Despite having missed the 2011 event, TT legend Dave Molyneux looked like hed never been away lastyear and he was immediately back to his imperious best, taking another double victory and extending

his record to 16 wins and 25 podiums. Its been a phenomenal career for the local hero and, as he

approaches his half century, its showing no signs of slowing down with him coming into this years

races very much the driver to beat once more. Continuing with Kawasaki power and Patrick Farrance

in the chair, its a formidable combination and one that could well take all before them at TT2013.

TT Record: Debut in 1988 - 1 win, 9 podiums (Best lap 114.861mph)

2013 will be 25 years since John Holden made his TT debut and hell be looking to get back onto

podium, at least, this time around af ter a year to forget last year. With regular crewman Andy Winkle,

the Lancastrian took a dream win in 2011 but it all went wrong 12 months ago with a heavy practice

crash at the Waterworks. It kept the pairing out of action for a couple of months but they return in

2013, fully t and raring to go once more. The third fastest pairing in the history of the event, Holden

and Winkle will again be challenging for the race wins in June.

TEAM SMT RACING

Tim Reeves, 37

From: Kent, EnglandTT Record: Debut in 2008 - 3 podiums (Best lap 113.276mph)

Passenger: Dan Sayle

Quadruple World Sidecar Champion Tim Reeves took his best ever TT nish twelve months ago,

when he took a strong second place in the second 3- lap encounter, having led Dave Molyneux for the

rst two laps. A gear lever problem held him back on the nal 37 and miles so hell come into this

years meeting intent on adding a f airy-tale TT win to his glittering CV. Dan Sayle, the most successful

passenger ever (with 7 TT wins to his name) only joined Reeves mid-way through practice week but,

with more experience as a partnership, 2013 could well be the year Reeves dream becomes reality.

Since the turn of the decade, the quality of the Formula Two sidecar class at

the TT has been on the up and what we now have is a solid group of drivers

and passengers who are capable of performing at the very highest level.

Wright made an instant impression at the TT in 2007 when he lapped at over 106mph to take twobronze replicas and the coveted Newcomers Trophy. That promise was fullled the year later when

he went on to take two top ten nishes, which included a best result of 6th and a 110mph+ lap and

although he missed the following two years, since his return in 2011 hes been right up there. Last year

saw him take a career best nish of fth and, one of the few drivers still competing to have lapped at

over 110mph, more of the same can be expected in 2013.

Since making his TT debut in 1992, Greg Lambert hasnt missed a year since and hes notched up his

fair share of impressive results. The Yorkshire driver can count two third place nishes as his best

results around the Mountain Course and although they came back in 1999 and 2003, the last three

years have seen him record four top ten nishes including a strong sixth last year. With 15 replicas

to his name, Lambert has also lapped at close to 110mph and can be relied upon to put on another

impressive show this time around.

Conrad Harrison, 48

From: Bradford, England

TT Record: Debut in 1993 - 4 podiums (Best lap 112.874mph)

Passenger: Mike Aylott

A podium nisher for the third successive year in 2012, Yorkshires Harrison has been an ever-present

at the TT since 1993 and whilst his initial results were steady, hes more than made up for that in recent

years. Now rmly established as one of the ve leading F2 crews competing at the TT, the Bradford

driver keeps on getting quicker and this year will again see him challenging for podium positions. Father

of solo star Dean , a win may be out of reach but, with Mike Aylott again in the chair, hell certainly be

there or thereabouts.

Since making their debut in 20 09, the Birchall brothers have, like Reeves and Klaus Klaffenbock,transferred their World Championship pedigree to the Mountain Course with aplomb and they were

rewarded last year with two excellent rostrum nishes. They overcame a heavy practice crash to lap

at close to 113mph and as they come into the ir fourth year on the Island, theyre all set to push for a

race win. The 2009 World Champions will again have the support of Klaffenbock so will have some of

the best equipment on the grid.

Gary Bryan, 48

From: North Kelsey, EnglandTT Record: Debut in 1998 - best nish of 4th (Best lap 111. 378mph)

Passenger: Jamie Winn

Since making his debut in 1998, Lincolnshires Bryan has improved his performances year on year so

much so that he hasnt nished outside of the top seven in the last three years; indeed, the only thing

missing from his list of results is a podium nish. Winner of the Newcomers Trophy in that rst year,

Bryan has taken no less than three fourth places in the last ve races and with the highly experienced

Jamie Winn in the chair, hell be looking for more of the same this time around. If the likes of Molyneux,

Holden and co suffer a breakdown, hell be there to pick up the pieces.

11 THE COURSE THE COURSE

Ballacraine to Kirk Michael (7 - 14 miles)

The only section of the course to remain from the very rst races of 1907, this is an area where experience

pays dividends and with no margin for error, riders need to be ultra precise. Passing through Balli g Bridge

(attened in 1935) and Dorans Bends (named after works AJS rider Bill Doran crashed and broke a leg

during practice for the 1952 meeting) riders then approach Laurel Bank and the infamous Black Dub. This

whole section is lined with trees, high banks and low walls. From the relative open spaces of the rst 7

miles, the geography of the course couldnt be more different and riders are constantly changing direction

with concentration, uency and smoothness the key.

Moving through the infamous Black Dub, the two left-handers into Glen Helen follow and once the steepCreg Willys Hill is negotiated, the course opens up once more on to the Cronk y Voddy straight. However,

its not long before the riders are faced with more demanding corners with the likes of the 11th Milestone,

Handleys Corner (named after 4-times TT-winner Wal Handley), the top and bottom of Barregarrow and

the 13th Milestone all presenting major challenges.

Kirk Michael to Ramsey (14 - 24 miles)

The Kirk Michael to Sulby Bridge section is without doubt one of the quickest on the course with speeds

well in excess of 180mph through Bishopscourt and along the Sulby Straight. The village of Kirk Michael

gives both riders and spectators a terric sensation of speed with the sound of the bikes echoing off the

walls of the houses and the narrow road seeing the riders hit 160mph as they buck and weave their way

through the village.

Upon leaving Kirk Michael, riders negotiate the high-speed kinks of Bishopscourt and Alpine before slowing

down to approximately 45mph for one of the circuits most famous landmarks Ballaugh Bridge where

they leap through the air. Back on the gas as quickly as possible, more air is taken at Ballacrye before goingthrough the right-left-right-left-right combination of Quarry Bends. This used to be a bumpy series of

second and third gear corners but was re-modelled in 1987 and is now super fast and smooth. Getting

through this section is crucial in order to carry the speed along the high-speed Sulby Straight, which again

has been resurfaced over the years.

After the right-hander of Sulby Bridge, the riders are then faced with arguably the bumpiest and most

physical section as they head towards Ramsey. Although only four miles in leng th the bumps are endless

and for most its simply a case of gritting their teeth and hang ing on, a section where the smaller and lighter

riders denitely suffer. Riders pass the Ginger Hall Hotel, which dates back to at least the mid-1800s and

sweep through the ups and downs of places like Kerromoar, Glentramman and Milntown before arriving

into the town of Ramsey.

Ramsey to Finish (24 - 37.73 miles)

After all the bumps and trees of the previous section, the Mountain Course encounters yet another

geographical change as riders head towards the vast open spaces of the Mountain itself. For some, this isthe easiest section to learn as the views into the corners are clear and un-obstructed but for others its

the opposite as the layout means that many of the corners appear to look the same.

Once through Dukes, the re-modelled Windy Corner and Keppel Gate, the riders start the rapid descent

back into Douglas via the three at out sections that link Kates Cottage, Creg-Ny-Baa, Brandish and

Hillberry.

Only the tight section through the Governors Dip now lies between the riders and the nish line. The

notorious Dip is a place where you can easily throw it all away but gain little. Once clear, its back on the gas

along Glen Crutchery Road and back through St Ninians for lap two!

With a course that has remained largely untouched since 1911, the 37 plus miles of public

roads captures the imagination like no other motorcycling venue can. Whether its the tight

and twisty roads through tree-lined glens, the narrow villages with their pubs, telegraph polesand phone boxes, or the open spaces of the Mountain tops, the TT Course never ceases to

amaze and astound. It remains the ultimate test of man and machine. These are real roads.

These are real heroes. This is real racing.

Start to Ballacraine (0 - 7 miles)

No sooner has a TT race started then riders are faced with the terrifying plunge down Bray Hill. After

leaping over St Ninians Crossroads, riders drop down the incredibly steep hill at 150mph, hit the dip at

the bottom and then y over Agos Leap on the other side welcome to the TT!

Once Quarter Bridge, Braddan Bridge and Un ion Mills have been taken, riders barely drop be low 140mph

with speeds through Crosby village approaching 190mph. One of the most daunting corners is the right-

hander of Ballagarey as the riders enter Glen Vine. It was here that Guy Martin lost control of his bike

during la st years Senior TT.

After passing through Crosby, riders drop down past the Highlan der, another near 200 mph section,

then its back down to third gear for Greeba Castl e - another corner that has caught out many. Through

Appledene, Greeba Bridge and past the Hawthorn pub, speeds are soon back up to 180mph and the huge

sweep round Gorse Lea is not for the faint hearted.

After 7 miles of at out racing, its hard on the brakes for the sharp right of Ballacraine where the course

takes a dramatic change.
