Dear SHARE Community: Breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and metastatic breast cancer bring so many challenges to men, women, families, and caregivers. SHARE’s mission is to help people manage these diseases in the most effective ways possible—with dedicated, experienced support and quality information. In the following pages, you’ll learn about the invaluable services provided by SHARE free of charge. This season, we’re happy to announce a new kind of educational “event” for SHARE, our first-ever online AMA (Ask Me Anything), with Dr. Don Dizon, a widely respected specialist in medical gynecologic oncology. This event will give people from around the world a chance to engage in an in-depth, online, patient-centered conversation. See page 4 for more information. SHARE is providing services to more women than ever before via our online offerings, with three thriving communities on HealthUnlocked, the online social network for health. Through HealthUnlocked, 1,200 women with breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and metastatic breast cancer from all over the United States and beyond have connected with us to exchange support and information every day. Page 14 and the back cover of this program guide offer more information about these exciting communities. Geographically, SHARE’s services are reaching further than ever, including top-notch educational webinars for people across the country. We currently offer 11 telephone support groups each month for women facing metastatic breast cancer, plus a new telephone group for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. But our work locally in New York City is as vibrant and important as ever. With 35 in-person support groups in English and Spanish throughout the five boroughs, educational programs featuring top doctors in New York locations, and innovative outreach initiatives including our Pink and Teal Corporate Seminar programs, SHARE offers a wide array of resources to thousands of people every month. SHARE’s community is both wider and more closely-knit than ever before, and its presence is absolutely crucial in these challenging times. Now as always, SHARE is deeply committed to providing the compassionate support that is vital to navigating breast or ovarian cancer.
