    Advanced Diploma ProgrammesIntroductionThe Clothing Industry Training Authority (CITA) and the Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel (HKITA) co-organise two advanced diploma programmes preparing students for the HKITA professional examinations. The prime purpose of the programmes is to provide a part-time mode of study to the students pursuing higher level of professional textile and clothing education. The programmes facilitate students in extending their professional knowledge through an integration of theoretical and practical training. Upon completion of the programme, a student could sit for the professional examination and attain the professional qualication in any of the two professional areas: (1) Knitwear Studies and Merchandising(2) Apparel Studies and Merchandising

    CITA is the solely accredited course provider and examination centre of Advanced Diploma Programme of HKITA

    Remarks Terms: Two terms a year, normally starting in April and September. Programme application: new applicants must pass the "programme admission" prior to enrolling the modules.

    As for current students, completed "Application Form(s) for Module Enrolment" should be submitted before the deadline (please read "notes for enrolment" for details).

    Application for HKITA examination: Students should register the membership of HKITA first. Examination fee and membership fee have to be settled separately. The examination fee should be paid upon the submission of the application for the examination.

    Students can only select one language for HKITA examination (English or Chinese). The selected language will apply to all six papers and could not be changed. Students should note that higher education institutions e.g. overseas universities may have special requirement on the use of language in the HKITA examination if they want to pursue further study.

    In case of special circumstances, students who cannot complete the six papers of HKITA examination within four years should apply for extension and pay the related administration fee.

    Minimum Entry Requirements At least 18 years of age at the time of registration and holder of Diploma/Certicate in Apparel/Textiles or related

    eld; OR Individual at least 23 years of age, completion of F.5 and with relevant industrial experience. Applications must undergo selection process.

    Programmes FeaturesThe programmes are module-based. A student is required to complete six modules stipulated under any of the two programmes and get passing grades in the professional examination within a period of two to four years so as to attain an Advanced Diploma awarded by HKITA. A student could also be able to get an Advanced Certificate or Advanced Diploma awarded by CITA if he/she gets passing grades in the coursework components.

    Hong Kong Institution of Textile and ApparelHong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel (HKITA) was established by a group of local scholars and respective professionals with the aim of providing professional qualifications to industry practitioner. Qualification recognition has been widely gained for its members and fellow members.

    HKITA offers a scholarship, named Professor Lo Ming Tak Memorial Scholarship, to support HKITA members who have outstanding academic results in the HKITA examinations.

    Diploma Scheme in Fashion and Textile StudiesIntroduction:The programme has been designed for the practitioners in clothing and related industries as well as interested students. It aims to equip students with necessary knowledge and skills so as to enhance their performance and competitiveness in the ever-changing environment. To meet the needs and learning styles of in-service personnel, the programme is structured to provide students the greatest exibility to choose any modules and take the assessments of the programme.

    The programme offers two levels of awards, Certificate and Diploma. To obtain relevant award, the students must follow the programme regulations and successfully complete the programme (attendance rate of at least 70% and pass in the assessments) of relevant modules. The certificate award of this programme mainly focuses on a chosen concentration. Students who completed 6 modules successfully can apply for the selected Certicate award. The diploma award has diverse nature and focuses across different areas. Students who completed 18 modules successfully can apply for the Diploma in Fashion and Textile Studies.

    Entry Requirements: Completion of secondary education or equivalent; OR Mature applicants over the age of 23 with at least 2 years

    of relevant work experience and obtain pass in admission test (subject to CITAs approval).

    Programme Features:The programme is module based. There are 5 concentrations (Fashion Design, Pattern Design, Apparel Technology, Fashion Merchandising and Textile Technology). Under each concentration, there is a series of modules (please refer to Programme Structure for more details. As for the certicate award, students are required to complete 6 modules successfully, including 1 mandatory module (Knowledge of Materials), any 3 core modules from one of the concentrations and any 2 elective modules from the whole module list. To obtain a Diploma award, students are required to complete 18 modules successfully. In addition to the mandatory module (Knowledge of Materials), students have to take 17 elective modules from the module list to fit their particular needs and interest. Alternatively, students may obtain 3 Certicate awards and then apply for the Diploma award.

    Awards: Attendance certicates will be issued to students attaining

    70% or more attendance but without being assessed or with failure grades in the assessment.

    Module certicates will be issued to students attaining 70% or more attendance and pass the assessment.

    Students who complete 6 specied modules successfully can apply for one of the following certicate award:

    - Certicate in Fashion Design (Code No.: CFTS-F) - Certicate in Pattern Design (Code No.: CFTS-P) - Certicate in Apparel Technology (Code No.: CFTS-A) - Certicate in Fashion Merchandising (Code No.: CFTS-M) - Certicate in Textile Technology (Code No.: CFTS-T) Students who successfully complete 18 modules or 3

    certificates can apply for the Diploma award (Code No.: DCFTS).

    4. This programme is designed for life-long learning. There is no prescribed maximum study period, however, students have to note the validity period of each module. Students have to note that not all the modules are offered in each term.

    Introduction A pair of conformable and glamour shoes is the art of fantastic craftsmanship. It is very common to admire the footwear products in the finest fashion collection. To explore the students' insight in the footwear product development and formation, this programme provides fundamental knowledge and practices of the footwear design and shoemaking.

    To obtain a Certificate award, students are required to complete satisfactorily the "Practical Shoemaking" and "Footwear Design". They can then attain "Certificate in Footwear (Design)". (Students can get a transcript upon successful completion of each course.)

    Students may take any courses as short courses. They are not required to apply for the course admission and to join the course assessment. "Attendance Certificate" will be issued to those attaining at least 70% of classes.

    Professional Diploma Programme

    Professional Diploma in Fashion Design Engineering

    Programme AimThe programme aims to train up design technicians that possess the essential knowledge and skills to meet the entry level requirements for the job post. At the core of the programme, there are prototyping workshops of selected high fashion design items. Students are required to make the patterns (2D and/or 3D), to sew prototypes, to finish with special techniques, to critique and to engineer for desired design and fit. Key design elements will be incorporated into the complex designs so that students will learn the advanced skills and workmanship through instructions and self-practices in the workshops. Students will also develop critical thinking skill and self-improvement mentality in the critique-and-engineer review process of the workshops. Along with this, they are also required to use computer technology and language to execute and communicate designs.

    Programme ContentThe programme covers the following areas: High fashion: Design appreciation and quality factors Advanced pattern design of high fashion products (Styling dress, styling top with bottom, casual jacket, evening gown, and tailored jacket) Advanced sewing and finishing for high fashion products (e.g. Binding, piping, invisible zipper, embroidery, beading, tailoring technique and advanced pressing .) Special techniques in handling high fashion products (like delicate/luxury fabrication e.g. Chiffon, Silk Satin, Organza) Design engineering techniques to improve product performance or to meet requirements Application of computer technology in modern prototyping Language skill in handling daily work of design development

    Learning takes place in all areas of life, not just in the classroom. This MA programme was developed by Middlesex University based on the concept of Work Based Learning Studies (WBS) and is the first introduced for Hong Kong fashion professionals. Supported by Clothing Industry Training Authority, it will bring you university-level learning in the workplace.

    AIMSThis programme is designed for those practicing merchandisers, buyers, senior fashion / garment related participants and garment factory senior staff, etc. As the fashion industry is constantly facing different challenges and demands, everyone who involves in this rapid changing fashion world ought to equip himself / herself with knowledge and skills in handling constant challenges.

    It also aims to realise students' potential by using innovative methods to develop knowledge and skills they gain through the design and implementation of real-life work based learning project.
