The Institute for Education’s (IFE) mission is to recognize and promote leadership, civility , and finding common ground, locally, nationally, and in the world community. IFE also educates youth for global citizenship with programs that foster intercultural appreciation.

IFE convenes diplomats, political, business, media, academic, and community leaders at the highest levels to encourage collaboration. Susan Ginsburg is a lawyer, independent policy analyst, and author, currently writing a book on public private partnerships for security and resilience. Associated with the ABA Standing Committee on Law and National Security, she was appointed to the first DHS Quadrennial

Homeland Security Review Advisory Committee, the Rice-Chertoff Secure Borders Open Doors Advisory Committee, and as senior counsel at the 9-11 Commission. Prior to that she served in the Clinton and Carter Administrations. She served as a law clerk for Judge A. Leon Higginbotham of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Susan is a board member of Freedom House and the John C. Whitehead Foundation.

D r. R. David Edelman is Special Assistant to the President for Economic and Technology Policy at the National Economic Council (NEC) and Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). He leads policy development and coordination on issues relating to the

digital economy, including broadband competition and access, high-tech intellectual property, online privacy, technology trade, and Internet governance. Beginning in 2012, he served as Senior Advisor for Internet, Innovation, and Privacy at OSTP and NEC. From 2010 to 2012, he served as the first Director for International Cyber Policy at the White House National Security Council, where he managed issues at the intersection of cybersecurity and foreign policy. Prior to his time at the White House, he served as Policy Advisor in the State Department’s Office of Cyber Affairs, where he was responsible for developing U.S. diplomatic strategy and international legal doctrine on cyber issues, and led negotiations on Internet issues at the United Nations. He also previously served as a foreign affairs analyst specializing in Northeast Asia.

Ambassador Kenichiro Sasae Ambassador of Japan to the United States

K enichiro Sasae was appointed the Ambassador of Japan to the United States in November 2012 after serving as the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan in Tokyo (2010-2012). He studied at Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania in 1975. His initial foreign assignment

was as First Secretary, at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. in 1984. In 1993, he was posted in London as Counsellor, Embassy of Japan, and while there he also held a position as Research Associate, International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). The following year in 1994, he became the Special Adviser to Mrs. Sadako Ogata, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva for 3 years. In April of 2000, he was appointed Executive Assistant to the Prime Minister of Japan. During his posts in Tokyo before the Vice Ministerialship, he served as Director-General of the Economic Affairs Bureau (2002-2005), Director-General of the Asian & Oceania Affairs Bureau (2005-2008) as well as Chief Japanese Negotiator to the Six-Party Talks.

The Institute for Education’s (IFE) mission is to recognize and promote leadership, civility , and finding common ground, locally, nationally, and in the world community. IFE also educates youth for global citizenship with programs that foster intercultural appreciation.

IFE convenes diplomats, political, business, media, academic, and community leaders at the highest levels to encourage collaboration.
