About the stadium

Originally Lahore Stadium, the facility was renamedin 1974 in honour of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar

al-Gaddafi Originally designed by daghestani-born architect

and engineerNASEERUDDIN MURAT KHAN

Constructed by Mian Abdul Khaliq and company in1960

Basic shape of the building is a circular plan of

about 260 metres in diameter. Renovated on account of the ICC worldcup to be

held in 1996, by NAYYAR ALI DADA

The perimeter of thebuilding is made ofred brick.

At ground level anarcade runs along theperimeter of thebuilding and housesretail spaces.

Two towers markeach entrance. Thetowers containticketing offices andrestroom facilities. Thetowers are solid in

contrast to theperimeter of thestadium.

The frames are supportedin the back by concretecolumns and covered with

fibre glass. The principal structure of

the stadium is load-bearingbrick walls with reinforcedconcrete columns andsteel sections for thearcades.

The seating area is made ofstepped reinforcedconcrete slabs.

The infill material ishandmade clay bricks andthe exterior walls weremade of exposed red brickand cement mortar

The floors of the seatingareas are ceramic tiles andfloors of the shops areterrazzo tiles.
