  • 1-2Banner Enrollment Management

The Banner Enrollment Management Suite (Banner EM) is a web-based, recruiter-focused set of solutions that enable you to manage individual and group relationships from initial inquiry through matriculation while driving performance towards institutional goals. Banner EM leverages your existing Banner and Luminis Platforms in a robust recruiter-specific workspace.

Banner Enrollment Management includes two solutions:

    Banner Relationship Management (BRM)

Banner Relationship Management helps you manage relationships at your institution. It lets you identify, engage, personalize, and track relationships with your prospective students and their key advisors. You can personalize engaging interactions; design, segment and target the communications you send; and monitor, track and gauge your recruitment and admissions activities.

    Banner Recruiting and Admissions Performance

RAP is the reporting analytics and performance portion of the Banner Enrollment Management Suite.

If you license Banner Relationship Management, you can load data collected in BRM into the warehouse. You can then leverage the information collected in BRM and report on it using RAP.

    Banner Enterprise Data Warehouse

Banner Recruiting and Admissions Performance contains data specific to this solution and data shared with the Banner Enterprise Data Warehouse (Banner EDW) product. Banner EDW is a multi-dimensional database that gives you a complete picture of your institutions current and past business conditions. The Banner EDW offers comprehensive reporting and analysis capabilities by providing the following data objects:

Operational stars that you can refresh with current data on a regular basis

Snapshot stars that offer a historical snapshot of the data at a point-in-time

Aggregate stars that you can refresh with current data on a regular basis that combine operational star data for a specific business purpose.

This combination of current and historical data allows you to do comparative reporting and analysis on student retention, performance, progress and completion (graduation).Banner Recruiting and Admissions Performance 1.3 June 2013HandbookOverview

  • June 20Administrative User Interface component

Banner Recruiting and Admissions Performance as well as the other Performance products, the Banner Operational Data Store, and the Banner EDW use the Administrative User Interface, which allows you to:

    Establish cleansing rules

    Define load extract parameters

    Define parameter map values

Schedule and run load and refresh data processes

Define and publish institution meta data

    Cognos components

The Cognos components of a performance product include the following types of objects built using the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence application:

Business concepts (Framework Manager Model/package) - group data captured using the Banner Student or the Banner Relationship Management products to satisfy a set of reporting needs by providing the ability to combine data to answer specific business questions

Cubes (Transformer Model/package) - combination of Framework Manager Model data loaded into a cube to expedite analysis of high level data and answer business questions and data needs

Reports - display trends of outcomes, summaries of current outcomes, and detailed information about students

Dashboards - display several graphical performance charts for a specific business area on a single screen that you can review at a glance

Scorecards - display institutional goals and objectives including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that monitor progress toward your goals and objectives and a set of strategic initiatives that are needed to produce desired outcomes

The data for these objects is stored in the Banner EDW. These objects are intended to illustrate the kind of analysis you can perform on the warehouse data. You can use the reports, dashboards, and scorecards as delivered or you can modify them to reflect the specific information you need to analyze and monitor your institutions progress.13 Banner Recruiting and Admissions Performance 1.3 1-3HandbookOverview

  • June 202 Business Concepts

Business concepts are used to organize the data available for different reporting requirements. A business concept shows the relationships between the data supporting a set of business processes. Because different business processes often require different perspectives on data, the relationships among the supporting database objects need to change based on the analysis you need to perform.

You can use a business concept with the Cognos Business Intelligence (BI) tools to define a Cognos Framework Manager (FM) model. You can then publish multiple packages that present the data in the model. By identifying subsets of the data that answer specific business questions, you can create and develop multiple packages from the delivered FM Models for a specific group of end users making it easier for them to produce reports for their specific needs

The Cognos Framework Manager (FM) tool enables you to use database objects in multiple FM models. These are each referred to as a namespace. In a Framework Manager Namespace, database objects are defined as Cognos metadata query subjects. In that namespace the relationships between the different query subjects focus around a central, primary, or aggregated fact table.

All data analysis and reporting completed using the business concept use the central fact table to filter and determine what data to retrieve. However, if that data is for a person or person and academic period not included in the central or aggregate fact table then that data will not be reported.

The following types of business concepts are delivered with the Performance products:

Base business concept that permits reporting from a group of operational star schema

Snapshot business concept that permits reporting from a star schema that presents data at a point in time or data captured for a business event

    Base business concept

The base version of a business concept combines all of the desired data to be used for that reporting purpose.13 Banner Recruiting and Admissions Performance 1.3 2-1Handbook

The snapshot version of a business concept includes the same information as the base version of the concept and an additional event dimension. You can use the event dimension to load the warehouse with a complete version of the base business concept data pulled from the data store at a point in time. This event gives you a static version of the data for a specific event.

You can define events in the EVENT parameter using the Administrative User Interface.

NoteRefer to the Administrative User Interface chapter of the Banner EDW Administration Guide for information about defining the EVENT parameter.

  • 2-4PM Analyze Enrollment Funnel business concept

The PM Analyze Enrollment Funnel business concept contains data with several layers of funnel status detail. There is a query subject that combines all the data available about Funnel Status History to be used specifically for Enrollment Funnel Status reporting. The Funnel Status Query Subject contains a number of folders that divide the data into logical groupings for ease of reporting. Data in this query subject represents three groupings for the funnel status:

All Funnel Status: Includes the history of all funnel statuses for a prospective student.

Initial Funnel Status Info: The first or initial funnel status (the status where the person entered the funnel)

Current Funnel Status Info: Which status (where) in the funnel the person is as of the reporting date.

For each of the three sets of data there are folders that contain all the data about that grouping for the funnel information. The data is grouped and organized this way to permit the end user to report combinations of funnel status; for example, initial funnel status compared to current funnel status. Within the five folders for each funnel status group, there are folders that do counts of funnel status divided into qualifying and disqualifying funnel status. In addition, there are several measures that may be used across all funnel status groupings.

The PM Analyze Enrollment Funnel business concept includes an Admissions Cycle feature that provides an optional method for capturing a complete linear admissions cycle timeline for specific date-based activities for a target academic period. you can define the Admissions Cycle by Day or Week. Refer to the Admissions Cycle section for information about this feature.

Data in the PM Analyze Enrollment Funnel business concept permits reports to answer questions such as:

How many people are in the system?

These names may have come from a tape load such as the College Board data list and do not indicate interest in your institution. This is just a list of prospective people your institution may want to contact with a direct mail campaign or other marketing materials.

    Admissions Cycle

The PM Analyze Enrollment Funnel (AEF) and PM Manage Applicant business concepts include the ability to capture a complete linear admissions cycle timeline for specific date-based activities for a target academic period. For the MA business concept, these include Application (Date) Cycle Day/Week, Application Decision (Date) Cycle Day/Week, and Latest Application Decision (Date) Cycle Day/Week. For the AEF business concept, these include the Latest Application Decision (Date) Cycle Day/Week and Funnel Status Entry Cycle Day/Week.

You can enable the creation of admissions cycle data by defining an EDW Extract Parameter named Admissions Cycle, which allows you to define an Admissions Cycle Start Date for any given Academic Period. If the system finds that the Admissions Cycle extract parameter is defined, it will calculate cycle days by subtracting the defined cycle start from the specific date based activity for that academic period. For example, Application Date (for Fall 20xx) minus the Admissions Cycle Start Date (for Fall 20xx) = xx Application Cycle Day.

Admissions Cycle Weeks are also calculated by calculating seven day intervals between the specific admissions cycle date based activity and the user defined Admissions Cycle Start Date.

If an equivalent Admissions Cycle Start Date is used for consecutive or like admissions cycles (i.e. Fall to Fall), this option will facilitate the comparison of point-in-time metrics for the current admissions cycle (academic period) to the same point-in-time metrics for previous cycles (academic periods).

The Admissions Cycle EDW Extract Parameter is used in the Framework Manager models (EDW business concept packages) to generate the Admissions Cycle, Admissions Cycle Description and Admissions Cycle Start Date data items found in the Admissions Cycle query subject.

The PM Impact of Aid on New Enrollment business concept allows you to monitor the financial aid need and awards offered to prospective students in the enrollment pool for an academic period. You can review financial need, award amounts, aid types and sources to assess the impact they have on the yield of admitted persons who enroll at the institution. You can analyze whether the gross need and percent of need met influenced a person's enrollment decision.

This business concept includes the Admissions Financial Aid (combined) Fact along with Financial Aid Application and Financial Aid Year and Academic Period Award information. The business concept includes data for those in the enrollment pool who apply for aid as well as those who do not apply for aid. This allows you to compare attributes and see whether a prospect is more or less likely to register for classes when they apply for or are offered financial assistance.

This business concept includes person demographic diversity attributes; person educational background attributes to assess quality; and recruit or application program attributes to compare diversity and or quality by requested program of study for those in the enrollment pool. Financial Aid specific data includes financial aid applicant groups (budget and packaging), needs analysis data (using both the federal and institutional methodology to calculate) and specifics of the award offered, accepted, declined or canceled within the aid year and academic period for each person.

You can use the Cognos package associated with the PM Impact of Aid on New Enrollment business concept to create reports that offer the following information or can answer the following questions:

Review the number of financial aid applicants that fail to enroll and compare numbers by different demographic breakdowns to analyze the decrease or increase in numbers from year to year.

How do financial aid package levels compare by the applicants chosen colleges, programs or majors? And what are the offer counts and amounts of awards offered by the various funds that make up those packages?

What are the amounts and percentages of need met and need not met by quality attributes like secondary school GPA or ACT Composite score?

How is the amount of gift versus self help aid affecting enrollment outcomes? For self help aid as component of total offers, is there an amount or percentage where non-enrollments increase?

It is important to know what populations of people will be included in the reports that you create using the PM Impact of Aid on New Enrollment business concept. The following picture illustrates the various headcounts available in this business concept and the relationships between the populations included in each headcount.

The headcount query items included in the business concept are pre-defined measures that you can use together on a report to do headcount comparisons. For example, you can compare the number of students who have applied for aid with those who have been offered aid.

Single Admissions Record Filters (Academic Period and Aid Year)

Your institution may allow multiple admissions records for a person. If this is the case, use either the Single Admissions Record - Aid Year or Single Admissions Record - Academic Period filter (depending on the time period of your report) to isolate only one admission application or recruitment record for any prospective student who has multiple records.

Using one of these filters is necessary to eliminate the multiplication of Financial Aid Application amounts in the report. Any aid year related amounts specific to the financial aid application but captured for each prospective student record may be multiplied by the number of multiple recruitment or admissions application records for a prospective student in Banner for a given academic period or aid year. This affects the values stored in the WAT_ADMISSIONS_FINAID_RECORD (or WAZ_ADMISSIONS_FINAID_RECORD)
