SUNDAY MASS  ON TELEVISION Sunday Mornings at 9:30 a.m. on WGN‐TV 9   Sunday Mass at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls has moved to a new time and a new channel. The “Parish of the Airways” is now seen on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m., on WGN‐TV, Channel 9, in Chicago.  Sunday Mass at Mercy Home, recorded at Mercy Home for Boys & Girls in the Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, has been a source of spiri‐tual nourishment since 1992 for those unable to leave their homes because of age or ailment to attend Mass.

What Happens When God Finds You 

 

Prayer is the most common way we relate to and 

grow in our relationship with God. But what is 

prayer? It is an experience that happens when God 

finds us. When I go to pray, I do not go to find God, 

but when I pray, I allow God to find me. Again, this 

is not just a play on words; the two approaches are 

very different, and choosing the latter will have a 

great effect in deepening and expanding our rela‐

tionship with God. 

 

With the perspective of encountering God, I begin 

my prayer by becoming aware of God waiting to 

affect my life. God is waiting to take over my life. St. 

Paul tells us that we do not know how to pray as we 

ought, but if we let the Spirit pray within us, God 

hears that prayer (Romans 8:26). 

 

We do not know how to grow in our prayer life, as 

Paul says, but if we pray with the attitude that God 

is waiting to affect our lives, soon the Spirit begins 

to pray from deep within us. With no words but 

simple presence, the Spirit flows within us and the 

prayer comes out of us. Just as it is difficult to tell a 

good dancer from the dance or a good actor from 

the character they are portraying, here the prayer 

and pray‐er become one. The Spirit flows within the 

person and, over time, that Divine prayer experi‐

ence will flow into everything he or she does, and 

then all of life is prayer.

Argentine Cardinal Bergoglio elected pope,  takes name Francis 

 Argentine Cardinal  Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76 was elected the 266th pope and took the name Francis.   The election March 13 came on the first full day of the conclave on the conclave's  fifth ballot.  It was  a  surprisingly quick  conclu‐sion  to a conclave  that began with many plausible candi‐dates and no clear  favorite.   The  Latin American pope, a Jesuit, was chosen by at least two‐thirds of the 115 cardi‐nals  from 48 countries, who cast their ballots  in secret  in the  Sistine  Chapel.   His  election was  announced  in  Latin from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, to a massive crowd in  the  square  below  and  millions  watching  around  the world.

The  election  of  Cardinal  Jorge Mario  Bergoglio, who  has taken  the name Francis  I, marks a great milestone  in our church. As successor to Peter, our first pope, Pope Francis I  stands  as  the  figure  of  unity  for  all  Catholics wherever they reside.  The bishops of the United States and the peo‐ple of our 195 dioceses offer prayers  for our new  leader and  promise  allegiance  to  him.  Intense  prayer  from  all around the world surrounded the election of Pope Francis   The bishops of  the United States  thank God  for  the guid‐ance of the Holy Spirit and the  inspired choice of the Col‐lege  of  Cardinals.With  joy  in  our  hearts, we  declare  "Ad Multos Annos!" (For many years!)  Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York President United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

CONGRATULATIONS POPE FRANCIS!  March 19 — Solemnity of ST. JOSEPH,  PATRON of the CHURCH 

  The Mass of Inauguration for our new Pope will be on 

Tuesday, March 19, the feast of St. Joseph,  Patron of the Church. 

 That date was set by Pope Francis and on that day he will officially begins his term as our new Pope. 

 St. Joseph has long been a per‐

sonal patron Saint. In all four Gos‐pels there is no mention of Joseph saying any words. Rather, his life was devoted to following God's will, caring for Mary and Jesus, and working quietly to safeguard the Holy Family. His life‐witness is 

what has always struck us as so inspirational.  Everything that we know about him points to that reality. In the scriptures, Joseph comes across as a man who was at‐tuned to the voice of God. He took what God had to say seri‐ously and prayed about it. Joseph wasn’t afraid to look inside of himself and listen to God speaking in his heart. Saint Joseph was also committed to his vocation. Once he realized that God wanted him to be a part of this great mys‐tery of faith, Joseph risked everything for those entrusted to his care. He accepted his vocation to be the foster‐father of Jesus and the guardian of the Holy Family. His vocation was to marriage and to joining with Mary, his wife to create and love a family. …   He reminds us how important it is to take seriously the vo‐cation that God has given to us – to you and me. I hope we have the courage to reflect upon and embrace that to which God has called us – as a husband or wife – a son or daughter – a man or woman committed to the single life – a religious – a deacon – a priest. … Joseph accepted God’s call and co‐operated with God in the unfolding of salvation. God has a plan for me and for you as well.  May we confidently call upon Saint Joseph this day. And by the help of his prayers, may we, the Church – the People of God, continue to serve the Lord Jesus in the people he has entrusted to our care.

LADIES OF ST. ANNE Ladies of St. Anne welcome you back, looking forward to see you at our meeting on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 11:30AM at 5936 W. Barry.  Our annual POT LUCK LUNCHEON will be on this date.  We ask everyone t please bring a salad (i.e. bean salad, potato salad, fruit salad, pasta salad, cole slaw, tuna salad, macaroni salad, shrimp salad, etc).  Sandwiches and desserts will be provided by the Ladies of St. Anne.  Please bring salad large enough to feed at least 8 people.  If you are unable to bring a salad, there will be $3.00 charge.  Are you tired of Winter blues?  Come join us and enjoy the company of old friends and make new ones.  All are welcome! 

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR  at St Eugene Parish

HOLY THURSDAY PILGRIMAGE The Knights of Columbus, Mater Christi Coun‐cil #14284 is hosting a visit to seven churches on Holy Thursday, March 28 which will in‐clude:  St. Hedwig, St. Helen, St. Mary of the Angels, St. Stanislaus Kostka, Holy Trinity, St.

  Columbian Boosters to Honor Fr. Jason Torba The Knights of Columbus  in  the Archdio‐cese  of  Chicago will  hold  it’s31st Annual Columbian  Boosters  Honors  Night  on Thursday, March 21, 2013. This  year  the  committee has  chosen  our pastor, Fr. Jason Torba as one of the hon‐

orees.   The Honors Night will be held at White Eagle Ban‐quets, 6839 N. Milwaukee Ave, Niles,  Illinois 60714.   Cock‐tails begin at 6:30 PM and Dinner at 7:30 PM.   Tickets are available by calling the parish office at (773) 622‐5900.  The cost is $40.00 and includes two drinks. The  committee  chooses  it  honorees  from  over  17,000 Knights in the Archdiocese of Chicago and they use the cri‐teria  of  the  four  principles  of  the  Knights  of  Columbus; Charity,  Unity,  Fraternity  and  Patriotism.    We  who  are members of the Knights of Columbus of Mater Christi who serve,  St.  Ferdinand,  St.  Pascal  and  St.  Priscilla  parishes know that Fr. Jason  is the perfect fit for the honor he  is to receive.   Please  join us as we  celebrate  this honor  for  Fr. Jason Torba.

 Ks. prał. dr Jerzy Karbownik   

urodził się 15 maja 1951 roku w Końskich woj. świętokrzyskie. W roku 1969 rozpoczyna studia w Seminarium Duchownym w Sandomierzu, z przerwą na odbycie służby wojskowej w latach 1970‐1972 w Bartoszycach. 

Święcenia kapłańskie:  otrzymał z rąk księdza biskupa Walentego Wójcika dnia  5 czerwca 1976 roku w rodzinnej parafii w Kazanowie.    

Służba w Kościele: Pracę duszpasterską rozpoczął jako 

wikariusz w parafii Pawłowice (1976 – 1978). Następną parafią był Bliżyn (1978 – 1980), Ostrowiec par. św. Michała (1980 – 1982) i Klimontów (1982 – 1986).  W roku 1986 ksiądz biskup Edward Materski ordynariusz diecezji sandomiersko ‐ radomskiej mianował  na proboszcza nowo powołanej parafii p.w. Matki Bożej Ostrobramskiej w Skarżysku – Kamiennej, w której prowadzi działania duszpasterskie do dnia dzisiejszego. 

W 2011 r. obronił tytuł doktora na Wydziale Liturgiki na Katolickim Uniwersytecie Lubelskim. Ksiądz Jerzy Karbownik podjął się organizacji i budowy Sanktuarium. Po wybudowaniu kaplicy, takiej jak Wilnie i jej poświęceniu w 1989 roku dokłada wszelkich starań w szerzenie kultu Matki Bożej Ostrobramskiej. doprowadzając do koronacji obrazu Matki Bożej w 2005 roku. Rocznie przybywa do Sanktuarium bardzo wielu pielgrzymów z kraju i z zagranicy. W Sanktuarium rozwijał wszelkie możliwe charyzmaty, między innymi poprzez odbywające się Sympozja Maryjne i Mariologiczne, na które zapraszani są licznie ludzie nauki i kultury, spotkania, koncerty przyczynił się do ubogacania duchowego i intelektualnego pielgrzymów i skarżyszczan. Należy do grupy społeczników, którym zależy na mieście i jego mieszkańcach, a przede wszystkim na potrzebujących opieki i wsparcia materialnego. Prowadzi Dom Miłosierdzia, w którym codziennie ok. 200‐300 osób otrzymuje posiłki, często są to cale rodziny, które nie radzą sobie w obecnej rzeczywistości. Rocznie ok. 30 tys. porcji. W okresie jesienno‐zimowym prowadzona jest noclegownia dla bezdomnych, z której miesięcznie korzysta 600 osób. W tym Domu funkcjonuje świetlica dla dzieci szkolnych, zapewniająca pomoc dzieciom pochodzących z rodzin biednych. Znajdują się mieszkania chronione dla osób niepełnosprawnych intelektualnie. Prowadzona jest również pomoc doraźna dla ofiar przemocy w rodzinie, gdzie kobieta dotknięta przemocą, najczęściej z dzieckiem, otrzymuje doraźne schronienie do czasu rozwiązania problemu. 

Habemus Papam! Mamy Papieża!  

            Kard. Jorge Mario Bergolio był w Argentynie i całej Ameryce Łacińskiej twarzą Kościoła ubogich – powiedział KAI ks. Juan Pablo z Argentyny po ogłoszeniu, że jego ro‐dak został papieżem i przybrał imię Franciszek. Kapłan obecnie studiujący w Rzymie przypomniał, że arcybiskup Buenos Aires wyszedł z bardzo ciekawą inicjatywą ewan‐gelizacyjną. Wraz z księżmi chodził z domu do domu i głosił Ewangelię. „Jest zasadniczym i kierującym się zasadami człowiekiem i kapłanem. Przybrał imię Franciszka, co oznacza, że ważny dla niego będzie problem ubóstwa w Ameryce Łacińskiej i na całym świcie. Kard. Bergolio obecnie Franciszek I był w Argentynie twarzą Kościoła ubogich. Myślę, że będzie to kontynuował jako papież, zmieni oblicze Kościoła jeszcze bardziej zbliżając się do ubogich” – powiedział Juan Pablo.  19 marca inauguracja pontyfikatu Msza św. inaugurująca pontyfikat papieża Franciszka spra‐wowana będzie 19 marca, o godz. 9.30 na Placu św. Piotra – poinformował ks. Federico Lombardi. Tego dnia przy‐pada uroczystość św. Józefa – patrona Kościoła powszech‐nego

WTOREK—19 MARCA UROCZYSTOŚĆ ŚW. JÓZEFA Dzień św. Józefa  Dniem św. Józefa jest 19 marca. Nie wiadomo dlaczego wybrano ten dzień. Być może powodem była bliskość uroczystości zwiastowania Maryji ‐ 25 marca. Być może wpłynął na to fakt, że 19 marca w starożytnym Rzymie czczono boginię Minerwę, patronkę rzemieślników. Kult św. Józefa  Św. Józef należy do najbardziej czczonych świętych w Kościele. Na Wschodzie jego kult przyjął się wcześniej niż na Zachodzie. Cześć św. Józefa szerzyli wybitni ludzie Kościoła w średniowieczu. W XV wieku wprowadzono wspomnienie św. Józefa do brewiarza. Od XVIII wieku dzień św. Józefa obchodzono jako uroczystość. W XIX wieku papież Pius IX ogłosił św. Józefa patronem i opiekunem całego Kościoła. W XX wieku papież Pius XII w 1955 roku proklamował święto pracy ‐ dzień 1 maja ‐ jako dzień św. Józefa rzemieślnika, przyjęty jednak powszechnie jako dzień św. Józefa Robotnika. Patronat  Św. Józef jest patronem szeregu krajów, m.in. Meksyku, Kanady, Peru, Filipin, Czech, Austrii. W 

Polsce jest patronem diecezji kujawsko‐kaliskiej. Św. Józef jest patronem licznych stowarzyszeń i zgromadzeń zakonnych noszących jego imię. Jest także patronem małżeństw i rodzin chrześcijańskich, dziewictwa, dzieci, sierot, cieśli, stolarzy, rzemieślników, kołodzieji, inżynierów, grabarzy, wychowawców, podróżujących, wypędzonych, bezdomnych, umierających i dobrej śmierci. Jako patrona obrali go sobie także polscy kapłani, więźniowie obozu koncentracyjnego w Dachau. Wzywany bywa w przypadku chorób oczu w pokusach a także w sytuacjach beznadziejnych, zwłaszcza braku dachu nad głową. Miejsca pielgrzymkowe W Ziemi Świętej w Nazarecie na domniemanym miejscu domu św. Józefa w północnej części dawnej miejscowości wybudowano kościół św. Józefa zwany "Kościołem Żywiciela". W Loreto we Włoszech od średniowiecza celem licznych pielgrzymek jest domek św. Rodziny, przeniesiony z Nazaretu. W Polsce szczególnej czci doznaje łaskami słynący obraz św. Józefa w Kaliszu.

In deference to Bob Dylan, the voice of a generation, and in ref‐erence to  John 8:1‐11,  the Gospel  reading on  this Fifth Sunday of Lent…  

They’ll stone you when they think they have a cause. They’ll stone you when you break their sacred laws. They’ll stone you ‘cause they’re holier than thou. They’ll stone you, baby, then they’ll take a bow. But I would not feel so all condemned; Jesus loves you in the end.    They’ll stone you, the religious high elite. They’ll stone you in the middle of the street. They’ll stone you but before the gravel flies,   They have their trap for Christ well‐devised. Still, I would not feel so all condemned; Jesus conquers in the end   “This woman…” they explain as they disown her (and justifying their demand to stone her), “…adultery’s her crime and death’s her due. That’s per the law of Moses; what say you?” 

And while they think they have the upper hand,  Jesus has his own trap planned.  

First he bends down and he writes upon the ground. Next he straightens up and looking all around, He asks those who themselves are without sin, To throw the first stones now to do her in. When later one‐by‐one they hit the door, Christ tells the woman, “Go; sin no more.” Alright  They’ll stone you, like Bob said, and claim they’re brave, They’ll stone you, like Bob said, right to the grave. They’ll stone you ‘cause they’re holier than thou. They’ll stone you, baby, then they’ll take a bow. But I would not feel so all condemned; Jesus loves us in the end. And when our own condemners hit the door, Christ tells us, also, “Go; sin no more.”

BAPTISM:

For Children: a pre-Baptism class is required for Baptism of the first child. Classes are held in English on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church, and in Polish on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church. Following registration, the sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in English on the second Saturday each month at 6:00PM and on the fourth Sunday of the month at the 12:30PM Mass. The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in Polish on the first Saturday of the month at 6:00PM and on the third Sunday of the month at the 3:00PM Mass.
