LITTER/POLLUTION:WHAT IS IT?
• Litter is:– Trash scattered about– Messiness; disorder
• Pollution is:– Harmful chemicals– Waste materials– Things that make air, water, and land unclean,
impure or dirty.
Pollution: What causes it?• Factories in the United States release over 3 million tons
of toxic chemicals into the land, air and water every year. 15 million acres of land are lost every year because of this and it leads to respiratory complications as well as other health problems while making our rivers and lakes too polluted for us to swim in or drink from.
Pollution: What causes it?
• Mining
• Littering
• Deforestation
• Wildfires
• Large ships
• Pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers• Human sewage• Oil spills
What can YOU do to reduce litter and pollution…?
• REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
• Pick up trash you see• Do not Litter
Project
• Pair up with a friend and use a piece of large construction paper to make an advertisement you might use to make your friends aware of the things you learned today about pollution and litter. Please include illustrations and 5 pieces of information you learned today.
