Why I attended OOW10 + JavaOne?

• Would like to see New Sun/Oracle vision.– See ‘Prince of Darkness = Dark Ironman :-P’– What Oracle going on with OSS they have

especially wih Sun’s OSS like MySQL.– What Oracle going on with OpenSolaris

Community after OGB retirement.– Know Oracle Vitrualization Products • Oracle VM (for x86,SPARC,which are based on Xen)• Virtualbox,Oracle VDI for Desktop

Attended as ‘bloggers’

• I attended as ‘blogger’ – to get free ticket for OOW + JavaOne– Almost 4,000US$ to

attend the event.– But it took almost 2

monthes to be approved by Oracle.• Getting higher the fee for

hotels in SF because of the event at that time.Cost me 180US$ near SFO Airport :(

OOW + JavaOne Schedule Summary

• Date Sep 19-Sep 23 at Moscone Center and some hotels at SF downtown (7? hotels),was too big event.– Day 1:MySQL Sunday,Java UserGroup meeting– Day 2-5 Keynotes,sessions

Day1 - MySQL Sunday

• MySQL 5.5 which focuses on Windows– 538% faster than old version.

• Cloudera Sqoop,a tool for hadoop,importing from MySQL is intersting.

• Annonuced Exalogic 1 box for cloud computing. – out of the box.

• Announced Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Enterprise solution with Oracle DB.75% faster than Redhat in OLTP benchmark

Day2 – Solaris,Virtualization

• Announced SPARC T3 processor 16 Core 128 threads and Fujitsu continue to invest for SPARC,continue to have a partnership with Oracle.

• Announced Oracle ZFS appliance 7420 Series -50% faster than NetApp(really?)

• OpenSolaris communities will be integrated to OTN.but doesn’t answer clearly.

Day2 (‘contd)

• MacOS X runs on Oracle xVM virtualbox 3.0 but it can run on Apple oriented machine (Macbook,iMac,.or) and planning to support on SunRay ThinClient with Oracle VDI

• Interoperability Oracle VM templates – runs both Virtualbox and Oracle VM Server.– Virtualbox is for Devlopers using something

development on their desktop PCs.

Day2 (‘Contd)

• Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder – Is for making templates including

OracleDB,Siebel..or– It is like Source Juicer for OpenSolaris• Planning to release many OVM templates on their

website.

• Amazon now working with Oracle using OVM templates on EC2 (meant Public Cloud for Oracle??)

Day3,4,5 – Solaris going on

• Oracle Solaris 11 will be released next year.– Focus on x86 and SPARC server,supports PC

laptops with virtualbox.– Solaris 8,9 containers discontinue to support on

Solaris 11 (but support Solaris 10 container)• New Oracle Solaris Cluster– Oracle container Cluster (Container VM based)– Oracle Cluster Geographic Edition (DR)

Visiting SVOSUG

• After OOW10 I went to Mountain View to attend SVOSUG(Silicon Valley OpenSolaris User Group) meeting.

• They were talking about OpenIndiana and illumos –OpenSolaris forked.– Illumos would be some business for Nexenta– Garrett D'Amore now working almost for this

illumos (90%)

Wraps

• Oracle seemed a way to restruct their product portfolio with Sun/Oracle merger.– Forus on and off– Discontinue and continue– Cease and more invest and develop.

• It is the ‘festa’ for their customers ,not for developers (some ppl like me said that).– Developers ‘cant’ working together
