PREFACE
Dear Readers, In this jubilee year, when Republika Srpska and the Republika Srpska Institute of Statistics proudly celebrate 20 years
of work and development, we publish the fourth edition of the Statistical Yearbook of Republika Srpska. Data collected by the Institute are used as the basis for estimates, strategies and development plans of government
bodies of the utmost importance for the social and economic position of Republika Srpska. Besides policy makers and the academic community as the most important users, the circle of those who use statistical data of the Institute has been expanding on an almost daily basis, and we are exceptionally pleased because of that, since this fact illustrates not only the strengthening of the awareness and trust concerning the statistical activity, but also the quality of data published by the Institute.
In this regard, the Yearbook, as the most complex and comprehensive publication of the Institute, is not merely a
representative of our work, but also a very valuable, high-quality publication which in one place provides users with a multitude of data on Republika Srpska, while also providing economic and social characteristics of Republika Srpska during the previous ten-year period.
As the previous, third edition, this Yearbook also has 30 chapters. Obviously, in comparison with the previous edition,
certain progress has been realised, new surveys have been introduced, data are more complete, and this is emphasised in methodological explanations.
Many thanks to all those who contributed to the successful completion of this Yearbook, especially to all statisticians
employed at the Institute of Statistics and other authorised producers of statistics in Republika Srpska. The publisher will be pleased to consider all reviews, opinions and assessments, as well as readers suggestions, while
working on this book in the future.
