ueridos lectores, abramos las v entanas de par en par de este infinito Ecuador, animmonos a mirar a travs de ellas y seguro descubriremos el ms ancho y azul de los mar s, el ms frone doso y multicolor de los bosques, la ms vibrante y v erde de las selvas. Asommonos a sentir el viento que viene del blanco glacial o el mensaje anaranjado y rojo que brota con furia desde la tierra ms pr ofunda de los Andes. S, amigas y amigos, sintamos al ms infinito de los territorios, en donde solo basta abrir nuestras v entanas para escuchar el canto de las caracolas, admirar el baile de los delfines y las acr obacias de los albatros, reflejadas en el tur quesa ocano. Observ emos cmo los insectos milenarios se toman la tierra mineral y fecunda para construir ciudades de prodigiosa arquitectura. Ecuador Infinito es una v entana para apr eciar lo que nos r odea, para sentirnos orgullosos de lo que tenemos, de lo que hemos logrado construir y mantener . Es un canto a la conserv acin de la vida y es un homenaje a las manos y al ingenio de los habitantes de esta parcela terrestre. Esta ventana nos mostrar, a travs de cada edicin, lo que hace de este pas un territorio inagotable, por la singularidad de su gente, por la riqueza de su cultura, por el v alor de sus creaciones; en el marco de la mayor biodiversidad del planeta, en el Ecuador del globo, en la Mitad del Mundo.

Dear readers, lets open widely the windows to this infinite Ecuador. Lets dare to look through them; we will surely discover the widest and bluest of all seas, the most lush and colorful of all woods, the most vibrant and green of jungles. Lets come out and feel the wind sensation that comes from the glacial white, or the red and orange message that breaks out with fury from the deepest land of the Andes. Yes, my friends, lets feel the most infinite of all territories, where the only thing we need is to open our windows to listen to the conches songs, the dolphins dance and the acrobatics of the albatross, reflecting on the turquoise ocean. Lets see how the millenary insects take over the mineral and fecund land to build cities of prodigious architecture. Endless Ecuador is a window that lets us appreciate what surrounds us, to feel proud of what we have, of what weve managed to build and maintain. Its a chant to life conservation, and the homage to the hands and the cleverness of the inhabitants in this fragment of the earth. This window will show us, through every edition, what makes this country a never ending territory, because of its peoples singularity, its cultural richness, the value of its creations, within the frame of the biggest biodiversity on the planet, on the Equator of the globe, in the Middle of the World.

Como es arriba es abajo. Cuando veo el ro, veo el cielo. Hermanos rboles como nubes de la tierra, hermanas nubes que nos trae el viento al soplar . Silencio para escuchar la vida, el corazn del mundo que late recordndonos que somos portadores de una importante misin. Como es arriba es abajo, y como dioses de nuestro tiempo hemos de mantenernos aler tas, respetando a los dems. Los pjaros no se empujan en el cielo , se ceden paso alegremente admirando el vuelo de los dems .

Ah, de pie frente a m, completamente desnudo, en una desnudez no solo fsica sino espiritual, veo un rojo guerrero, defensor de la vida, custodio del patri-

monio gentico animal y vegetal de esta r ea en la que Dor oboro (el ro Napo, ro padr e) cuenta historias milenarias, tan antiguas como las pisadas de este clan. Los Huaoranis, hermosos hombres y mujeres con piel del color de la tierra, giles cazador es, grandes cantor es y tiernos padres, estn llenos de le yendas. Armados con cerbatanas, aquellas que con pr ecisos dispar os detuvieron a incas, espaoles, traficantes, hacendados (cada uno con el corazn lleno de av aricia y destruccin), estos guerreros protegieron por siglos, con sus propias vidas, este rincn planetario que trata de mantenerse, al igual que ellos, intacto y pur o. Cerbatanas le vantadas para impedir la inv asin, cerbatanas que no deben ser cambiadas por brillantes e inservibles objetos de

canbales ambiciosos, que el pueblo de los hombr es y a detuv o alguna v ez. Este es un pueblo amigo, un pueblo que defiende su pacto con la madre naturaleza. Canto de pjar os. La selv a llama. El air e que juega con las hojas de los altos rboles trae una promesa de paz, una promesa de vida. Mir o alr ededor, ojos brillantes que se mimetizan con las luces, flor es y gotas de r oco observan desde lejos como inmortales testigos. Aqu todo est vivo, todo r espira. Los pjar os no se empujan en el cielo, se ceden paso alegr emente admirando el vuelo de los dems. Levanto mis manos, estir o mi cuerpo. Mi espritu se siente lleno, mi mente escucha con claridad. Es la selva, el latir de la tierra. Descalzo mis pies, siento el suelo eterno.

El bosque siente, goza, sufre, piensa y habla: es una identidad consciente que respira con los rboles, canta con los pjaros y corre con los animales.9

Colors, smells and stories of the green AmazonHuaoranis: guardian warriors of the Amazon

he alisios winds blow. The green leaves of this beautiful paradise tell secrets; sing. Green, red, yellow and white Amazon jungle. Dream landscapes that take us to the beyond. The squealing of monkeys, rattling of snakes, buzzing of bees without sting, howls, an infinity of sounds that saturate the audible atmosphere of life. Colors, smells, flavors and sensations. Its impossible to believe that such beauty and purity can be true. Earth, where all the species coexist, respect and care each other, make themselves comfortable and accepted. They are the mother earth and father sky that feed the rivers, run, generate and support the richest place in the world. Grounds of all colors; some brown, others almost orange and the yellow, that, with the first sunbath turn into gold paths that reveal soft footsteps of little tiger cats and jaguars. Around here, birds and butterflies fly free, competing with the intense color of the flowers, inspired in the beautiful rainbow, bridge of the spirits, road of the spirits, and guide of the warriors. Armed with blowpipes of precise hits that have stopped many Incas, Spanish and plantation farm dealers (each and everyone of them owner o a heart filled with greed and destruction), these light warriors have been able to protect this beautiful spot of sky that tries to remain, just like them, intact and pure on earth, with their own life, during centuries. Blowpipes are raised to stop the invasion, blowpipes that must not be traded for shiny and useless objects of ambitious cannibals, that men and people already stopped once. This is a beautiful nation, a friendly nation, a nation than defends its pact with Mother Nature. Birdsong. The jungle calls. The air, which plays with the leaves of the tall trees, brings a promise of peace, a promise of life. I look around, shiny little eyes that become mimetic with the lights, flowers and dewdrops that observe from far like immortal witnesses. Here, everythings alive, everything palpitates, everything breathes. The birds dont shove each other in the sky, they give way merrily admiring the flight of others. I raise my hands, stretch my body. My spirit feels full, my mind listens with clarity. Its the jungle, in the earths throb. I bare my feet, Im in a sacred place.

Dibujaba en el cielo hermosos lienzos verdes que venan a su mente, inspirados en la exuberante naturaleza con la que siempre ha mantenido una estrecha relacin. Nacido en la com unidad Secoya, en la pr ofundidad de la Amazona ecuatoriana, Piaguaje es un ar tista autodidacta que asombra por su e xcelente trabajo. Sus cuadros muestran todo el esplendor del entorno selvtico y su par ticular visin sobr e el lugar, al ser un hombre de la selva, hace que sus obras de arte no sean crebles sino veraces. A los 12 aos , empez a retratar a la enigmtica selva utilizando lpiz y papel, sus primeros instrumentos de ar te a los que conoci cuando empez a

asistir a la escuela para r ecibir clases de castellano . Trazos perfectos y una tcnica m uy personal, llamaron la atencin del antroplogo William V ickers, quien puso en sus manos no solo el primer jueg o de leos sino la oportunidad de su vida: organiz la primera e xposicin de Piaguaje en el Museo Antropolgico de la Uni versidad Catlica del Ecuador, en 1993. Fue as como aquel jo ven seco ya que soaba con historias de color dio a conocer su trabajo en el que no se intenta conce ptualizar sino simplemente retratar lo que v en sus ojos. La obra de Piaguaje es fiel y esa fidelidad a la naturaleza est influida por sus conocimientos ancestrales, por la rica her encia cultural de su pue blo, para el cual la naturaleza no es un conjunto de especies v egetales y animales, sino que tiene m ucho que v er con el espritu de los

misioneros, hijo de Cecilio , cacique de la tribu, y de Matilde, chamn de los Seco ya, recibi a los miembros de la delegacin en su casa donde pudier on constatar no solo su gran sencillez y apertura sino , tambin, la capacidad artstica de este hombr e que jams haba r ecibido una sola clase de dibujo o pintura. Ramn, que inicialmente dibujaba con tinta negra y papel, experiment tambin con los colores provenientes de las semillas, races y rboles , empleados

por su pueblo para pintar sus trajes tradicionales y sus r ostros, hasta que, poco a poco, conoci y se familiariz con todos los colores que ahora forman parte de su paleta, fiel compaera,con la que busca siempre un rbol aoso y empieza a contar una historia. Y es que cada cuadr o es toda una historia de vida plasmada en un trozo de leo. Ramn cree que si tiene algn don es el de ver a los poderosos rboles amaznicos con sus colores perfectos.

En estas obras , donde la perfeccin es la caracterstica principal, se trata de plasmar lo que un da fue la selv a para el futur o, pues segn el criterio de Ramn, nos da a entender que conforme pasa el tiempo su forma de vida y de las personas que la rodean va tomando un giro diferente, donde el hombre del mundo actual va ingresando paulatinamente, en estos mara villosos lug ares, los cuales los contamina conforme sus inter eses. The eternal Amazon of Ramn PiaguajePiaguaje left his natal Ecuador for the first time to receive the first prize of the World Painting Contest Our World in the year 2000, in London, contest that had the participation of about 22 367 artists. Piaguajes work, titled Eternal Amazon, was the absolute winner and, with his usual humility, he received such longed price in the head office of the United Nations, where his international fame and ascension of the artist started. The work, which blew away the jury, had a very peculiar technique, and, without the use of perspective, which was unfamiliar to Piaguaje, managed to create a mirror effect that reflects a sylvan image. Apparently, the people inside the organization where really astonished and they sent a delegation to the Ecuadorian Amazon in order to meet the artist. Yi Piarasa in secoya, or Ramn Piaguaje as the missionaries baptized him, son of Cecilio, cacique of the tribe, and Matilde, shaman of the Secoyas, received the members of the delegation in his home, where they could

His paintings show all the splendor of the jungle surroundings and his very particular vision of the place, as a woodland man, which makes his work not believable, but truthful. When he was twelve, he started to portray the enigmatic jungle, using pencil and paper, the first instruments of art, which he met when he started attending school to receive spanish lessons. Perfect strokes and a very personal technique attracted the attention of

anthropologist, William Vickers, who put in his hands not only his first set of oils, but also the opportunity of his life: he organized the very first Piaguajes exposition in the Anthropological Museum of the Catholic University of Ecuador in 1993. Thats how that young secoya man, who dreamt with stories of color, put his work out there, a work thats not trying to build up concepts, but, instead, is just

trying to portray what his eyes see. Piaguajes work is true and that truth to nature is influenced by his ancestral knowledge, by the rich cultural heritage of his people, who sees nature not as a compound of species, plants and animals, but as something that has a lot to do with the spirit of the forefathers, with the beginnings of the world, and the mythical apparition of human in the huge jungle plane.

Ramn Piaguaje was the absolute winner of the World Painting Competition Our World in 2000.he winning paintings were exhibited on February 17, 2000, at the apartments of St. James Palace. Prince Charles held a long private interview with Piaguaje,

during which Ramn explained the Prince his art and his deep love for his jungle, which is reflected on his works. The prize award for Piaguaje and the other two winners of the competition

was the crowning moment, following the rigorous royal protocol at every step. Mr. Koffi Annan, General Secretary of the United Nations, expressed his deep wish to pay a special tribute to the Ecuadorian artist, where he highlighted the ethnic virtues and the value of the Amazonian nature.

ascertain not only his great naturalness and warmth, but also the artistic capacity of this man, who had never received even one drawing or painting lesson. Ramn, who initially drew with black ink and paper, experimented also with the colors he obtained from seeds and roots, used by his people to paint their traditional costumes until, little by little he discovered and became familiar with all the colors that are now part of his palette, faithful partner with whom he always searches an old tree and starts telling a story. And its just that every painting is a whole tale of life captured in a piece of oil. Ramn believes that if he has a gift, that is being able to look at the powerful Amazon trees with their perfect colors.

In this w ork, where perfection is the main attribute, it is about capturing what one day will be the futur e jungle , because Ramn is trying to help us understand that, as time g oes by,his way of life and the one of the people around him is g etting to a differ ent turn, where the man of the modern world graduall y di ves into this w onderful places, the same that he pollutes to satisfy his own inter ests. La iglesia de San Francisco al centro, un pretil elevado es el atrio, las escaleras que lo unen con la plaza dibujan un juego circular cncavo y convexo en piedra, nico elemento ornamental en ese sobrio v aco. Q

uito fuses with the exulting nature of volcanoes and snowcapped mountains. Extended along the crimped surface of the longitudinal valley, Quito prolongs its multiple arms towards the surrounding metropolitan valleys. A space of long history, the history of Guaman Poma and Amaru, history alive in the inlaid words of the language, in the whispering terms of Quichua, in the persistent spaces, in the old stones, in the customs that dont want to be lost, in the depths of the ground, history still unraveled. The most antique Quitus are interweaved with legends and myths, waiting for history to do them justice. What was it, really, that the Spanish discovered as they stepped on Quitus ground, beyond the importance of Pichincha volcano, that marks occident with vigorous pre-eminence, of the luminous whiteness of the snowed peaks of the Cotopaxi, of the Antisana and other tops, equally prodigious? Their feet touched the ways of the Inca, trace that draws itself tenaciously among the vegetation; their eyes where amazed with the vast space that covered the old market, the indigenous tianguez; maybe they discovered the pleasure baths of the Inca, the walls of the bedroom constructions and the storage of products, ceremonial points on the top of the mountains, which were considered sacred. The truth is they founded the Hispanic city on already founded and inhabited ground. They trace, following the check-

er board system, with straight lines, the streets that defined the blocks in which the lots of the 204 founders were distributed, reserving the spaces for three main plazas and the rest of the lots for churches and convents. In the great space of the tianguez (market) they sowed the wheat, for the first time, and there they expanded a huge workshop, where the autochthon inhabitants learned to work in a different way, several materials, such as stone and wood to build up monuments for a religion brought by the conquerors. In this place, today we admire a set considered the most beautiful of South America. The big stone plaza is defined on the west by the white wall of the convent, the church and the chapels. The church of San Francisco on the center, a high railing is the atrium, the stairs that tie it to the plaza draw a circular game of concave and

convex in stone, the only ornamental element in that solemn emptiness. That way, space and walls are essential elements. An identical sensation takes us over as we stand in front of the monumental baroque faade, made on stone, of the church of La Compaa de Jess (Jesus Company), and on the overflowing inside, its dome, its gold leaf altarpiece, the statues of its saints, the extraordinary paintings and the pulpit, incomparable sculptural and symbolic work. Farther, on the very center, the Plaza Grande (Big Plaza), symbol of independence and foundation of the Republic, is since the beginning, a reference point where the public and religious powers converge. The Presidential Palace, which has a high recova (arcade around the exterior of a building or courtyard, typical of colonial-era buildings) the Municipal Palace which has a

modern recova and transparencies that invite us to enter, and the Archbishop Palace, beside the mayors house, connected by a sequence of robust pillars and arches, are completed with the outstanding Cathedral, in a harmonious environment of different ages that keeps the typical recovas that welcome the visitors. The Santo Domingos Plaza, meeting point of those who enter from the south, surrounded by a context of edifications, some of them antique, that brings out the severe presence of the traditional school, with its sequence of arches, and the convent of Santo Domingo, with the continuity of its white wall, that closes to the side with the arch that enters one of the oldest neighborhoods in the center of the city. The central core, like a ring, is surrounded by traditional neighborhoods; each one with its particular expression of secluded streets, old yard houses, museums. The chapel of Cantua, a small colonial jewel, that perpetuates the name of its builder, related to the legend of Atahualpas treasure and de witty mockery of Cantua of the devils pact, which let him save his soul. Then comes the chapel of San Buenaventura, next to the church, its entrance flanked with its towers, the nave welcomes the visitor with the space slightly illuminated so they dazzle even more.

Los vestigios arqueolgicos que descansan en el lugar demuestran la existencia de una cultura con conocimientos en astr onoma, geometra, arquitectura y manejo del espacio. Segn investigaciones, en las piscinas pr eincas se formaban espejos de agua que permitan hacer una interpr etacin cientfica del cosmos. Adems, existen otros vestigios arqueolgicos que se pueden observar en el Museo de Sitio. The archeological vestiges that rest in the place prove the existence of a culture with knowledge of astronomy, geometry, architecture and space handling notions. Accor ding to the investigations, in the pr e-Inca pools (seven pools) water mirrors that led to a scientific interpr etation of the cosmos wher e formed. Also, there are more archeological vestiges that can be observed in the Museo de Sitio (Museum of Place) of Tulipe. UEl antiguo volcn Mojanda es ahora una enorme caldera en la que descansan tres hermosas lagunas.

n letr ero apar ece sin previo a viso en la carretera que nos lleva hacia Tabacundo y la flecha indica el desvo hacia Mojanda. Giro a la izquierda y el asfalto desaparece. Un pequeo camino dibujado con adoquines nos da la bien venida y es hora de iniciar el ascenso . giles ciclistas equipados con piernas de acer o pedalean incansab lemente y los aventureros que han preferido ir a pie v an sin apur o, llevando una que otra moc hila donde guardan agua, alimentos, chompas y r ompevientos para aguantar el largo camino que les espera. Saludan a los carros que pasan por el lug ar y algunos

hacen seas para que las camionetas o los 4x4 que tienen espacio les den un aventn. El sol empieza a iluminar el lugar, por el r etrovisor y a todo se v e lejano . La ne blina pierde peso y comienza a ele varse lentamente. Conforme subimos , el teln b lanco y a casi termina de levantarse y nos deja observar la primera escena: grandes montaas con tonos v erdes, ocres y dorados se alzan imponentes y silenciosas; son parte del nudo de Mojanda que se caracteriza por sus tres lagunas principales, una cuarta laguna ms pequea y tr es picachos (Y anaurco, Colangal y Fuya Fuya). El r ecorrido sigue cuesta arriba,

Rodeadas por paredes, conos y domos volcnicos, las lagunas de Mojanda presentan un espectculo nico de formas y color . Caricocha,Yanacocha y Huarmicocha descansan a 3 710 metr os sobre el nivel del mar.ya casi cor onamos una de las amarillas montaas y tras el comentario: quin dira que a esta altura se pueden encontrar lagunas, como una aparicin, las lagunas de Caricocha (laguna macho o v arn) y Y anacocha o Laguna Negra se pr esentan sin previo aviso. Caricocha es muy grande. Es la ms grande de las tres y reposa en el antiguo crter del v olcn Mojanda que, segn algunos datos, debe haber competido en altura con el Cotopaxi antes de que una o v arias erupciones fuertes terminaran con su cono. Siguiendo el camino trazado, ms adelante ya se las puede apreciar en todo su esplendor . Aqu, aproximadamente a 3 710 metros sobre el nivel del mar, el agua hace las v eces de espejo y refleja a las coloridas montaas que de manera espectacular contrastan con el ar co iris que sale desde la mitad de la laguna macho. T odo es color , paz e inmensidad. Apenas se puede escuchar el ligero eco de un ave que se asemeja a un guila pequea y que, segn coment uno de los pescador es aficionados, que acababa de sacar su tercera trucha de la laguna, es

Y es que en este sitio adems de observ ar la majestuosidad del complejo lacustre, es posible sentir la inmensa pr esencia de uno de los nicos bosques de altura nica, que se conservan en forma primaria con la pr esencia de la flora y fauna pr opios de los pramos ecuatorianos. El camino cada v ez se hace ms intransitable y el uso de doble transmisin es totalmente necesario. Es toda una av entura. Desde arriba la vista es impresionante. La laguna de Yanacocha y una pequea que no ha sido bautizada todava, completan esta obra de la naturaleza que constituye uno de los lugar es con mayor concentracin de agua de la regin. La noche est por caer y el

fro no da tregua. El viento sopla cada vez ms fuerte y los danzarines pajonales y a empiezan a marcar el ritmo. Pr onto, todas las luces se apagarn y los espritus ancestrales que habitan en las lagunas saldrn a jugar y esparcir polvo de oro y escarcha por doquier, como parte del imaginario cultural. Localizadas a 16 km de Otavalo y a 75 km de Quito, las lagunas de Mojanda se encuentran en el lmite de la pr ovincia de Pichincha e Imbabura por lo que es factible ingr esar por Tabacundo u Otavalo. El circuito a seguir por cualquiera de los dos lados es r ealmente inolvidable y v ale la pena hacerlo en auto, bicicleta o, simplemente, caminando.

The old Mojanda volcano is now a huge boiler in which three gorgeous lakes rest.

sign appears on the road that leads us to Tabacundo, and the arrow points to Mojandas detour. I turn left and the asphalt disappears. A path drawn with cobbles welcomes us and it is time to begin the ascent. Agile cyclists equipped with iron legs ride tirelessly and the adventurers have preferred to walk without hurry, carrying one or two backpacks where they keep water, food, sweaters and light jackets for the wind, so we can tolerate the long way that lies ahead us. They wave to the cars that pass by and some of them signal to the 4x4 pick up trucks that have space so they can give them a lift. The sun starts to illuminate the place and through the rearview mirror everything seems already far away. The fog looses weight and starts to rise, letting us observe the first scene: great mountains dressed with green, ocher and golden tones raise silent and impressive; theyre part of the capricious knot of Mojanda known for his three

main lakes, a fourth small lagoon, and three peaks: Yanaurco, Colangal and Fuya Fuya. The route continues uphill, were almost at the top of one of the yellow mountains, and after the comment: who would have thought that at this height you could find lagoons, as an apparition, the Caricoha (male lagoon), and Yanacocha (black lagoon) lakes show themselves without warning. Caricocha is really large. Is the largest of the three and lies in the old crater of the Mojanda volcano, which could have, according to some studies, competed in height with the Cotopaxi, before the various eruptions that ended with his cone. Following the drawn path, further on, the lagoons can be appreciated in all their splendor. Here, at approximately 3 710 meters above the sea level, the water works as a mirror that reflects the colorful mountains that, in an spectacular way, contrast with the rainbow that appears from the middle of the male lagoon. Everything is color, peace and

immensity. One can barely hear a light echo from a bird that sounds like a small eagle and, as one of the amateur fishermen said, is part of the endemic fauna of the place. That is because in this spot, aside from watching the majesty of this lacustrian space, its possible to feel the vast presence of one of the forests of unique altitude that are preserved in a primary way, with the presence of the flora and fauna representative of the Ecuadorian moors. The road becomes more and more impassable, and the use of double transmission is absolutely necessary. This is a total adventure. From up here the view is breathtaking. The lakes from Yanacocha (black lagoon) and a small one that hasnt been named yet, complete this work of art that constitutes one of the places in the region in which more concentrations of water exist. The night is about to fall and the cold does not give truce. The wind blows harder and harder and the dancing field with tall grass is starting to mark the beat. Soon, all the lights will be off and the playful spirits that live in this lagoons will come out to fool around and scatter gold dust

and glitter everywhere, as they seem to do every night. Located 16 km from Otavalo, and 75 km from Quito, the beautiful lagoons of Mojanda are in the limit of the province of Pichincha and Imbabura, which is why entering through Tabacundo or Otavalo is equally possible. Either way, the circuit one should travel is truly unforgettable and its worth it whether you do it on a car, bicycle or, simply, walking.

CuyujaTal vez se trate del futuro de la escalada depor tiva cer ca de Quito. Tiene una capacidad poco comn en el Ecuador de alber gar rutas depor tivas de hasta dos largos, con una altura de hasta 75 metros. La roca es de excelente calidad, pero requiere un alto nivel de lectura y mucha r esistencia. Llegar a Cuyuja no es muy difcil, si esta en auto debe ir por la Va Inter ocenica, rumbo a Baeza, pasando por el poblado de Muluaco, donde comienza el ascenso al pramo de la Virgen a 4 200 m.s.n.m., considerando como uno de los pasos viales ms altos del Ecuador . Apr oximadamente a 30 minutos de camino llegar a Papallacta, famoso por sus aguas termales, y en 20 minutos ms arrivar a Cuyuja. /

Avenida de los volcanes

Avenida de los Volcanes es el nombre que el cientfico alemn Alexander Von Humboldt emple para distinguir el conjunto andino que est rodeado de volcanes activos e inactivos, distribuidos en dos cordilleras semejantes a las de los Andes del Ecuador , en Sudamrica. Es nica en el m undo, se encuentra en el Callejn Interandino entre la Sierra Norte y Centro. Constituye un corredor que alberga a cientos de comunidades dedicadas a la agricultura y ganadera / Volcano highway is the name that the German scien-

tist, Alexander von Humboldt, used to make a distinction of the Andean set, surrounded by active and inactive volcanoes, spread in two mountain chains, similar to the ones in the Ecuadorian Andes, in South America. There is no other highway like this in the whole world, and its located in the Callejn Interandino(InterAndean alley), between Northern and Central Mountain Range. It constitutes a passageway that houses hundreds of communities, devoted to agriculture and cattle farming.

nes muy mar cadas que se pueden disfrutar en las fiestas populares como los toros de pueblo, la Fiesta del Maz o el Paseo Procesional del Chagra, un desfile de poblador es pr opios de los pramos. Esta parte sur oriental de la provincia de Pichincha, no solo

permite admirar v olcanes activos, inactivos y grandes montaas, sino tambin brinda v arias alternativas de actividades como senderismo, paseos a caballo, observacin de av es, ciclismo de montaa, campismo, escalada deportiva, canop y; acompaado de v ariados paisajes andinos.

Existe una red de senderos, rutas y sub-rutas que se distribuy en en el trayecto y permiten descubrir comunidades y atractiv os asentados a lo largo de cada una, es decir , antes de r ecorrer la Ruta T urstica A venida de los Volcanes usted debe tener clar o que no solo la impr esionante vista de colosos f orma parte del paseo, sino tambin una serie de atracciones que se v an pr esentando durante el r ecorrido. En esta ruta usted podr disfrutar de una impr esionante vista paisajstica de v olcanes como: Guagua Pichincha, Rucu Pichincha, Atacazo, Corazn, Ilinizas, Pasochoa, Rumiahui, Cotopaxi, Sincholagua, Antisana y montaas como el Macizo de T abacundo, Fuya Fuya e Ilal, gigantes que pueden ser admirados

desde un mismo lugar , es todo un espectculo imperdible y ms an si vienen acompaados de cascadas como las de V ilatua, Cndor Machay, bosques y reservas ecolgicas priv adas como Santa Rita y Rumibosque. Asimismo, se puede acceder hasta las lagunas de Muer tepungo, T ipopugro y De Secas donde se practica la pesca deportiva, mientras que Limpiopungo y Santo Domingo, en el Par que Nacional Cotopaxi, le conducen a disfrutar de av es pr opias del pramo como el curiquingue y si tiene vientos a fav or, podr v er tambin a la majestuosa av e de los Andes: el cndor. Muy cer ca de la capital, rodeado de aire puro y aventura, esta ruta lo espera.

There is a net of paths, routes and subroutes that spread over the path, and allow us to discover communities and attractions, settled along each of them, which means that before traveling across the Tourist Route of the Volcano Highway you must know that not only the astonishing view of the colossus are part of the ride, but also a number of attractions that appear during the trip. From the Tourist Route of the Volcano Highway, you will enjoy an amazing landscape of

volcanoes like: Guagua Pichincha, Rucu Pichincha, Atacazo, Corazn, Ilinizas, Pasochoa, Rumiahui, Cotopaxi, Sincholagua, Antisana and mountains like the Macizo of Tabacundo, Fuya Fuya and Ilal, giants that can be appreciated from the same spot, its a real spectacle that one cannot miss, specially if it comes with waterfalls like Vilatua, Cndor Macha, forests and ecological reserves like Santa Rita and Rumibosque.
