The Mathematics Curriculum Learning Experience aims to enable pupils to:
• Develop joyful and productive learners while learning mathematics concepts and skills in mathematics;
• Develop thinking, reasoning, communication, application and metacognitive skills through a mathematical approach to problem-solving;
• Build confidence and foster interest in mathematics.
Numbers up to 1000
- Count in tens/hundreds
- Recognize number notation, representations and place values (hundreds, tens, ones).
- Read and write numbers in numerals and in words.
- Compare the number of objects in two or more sets.
- Compare and order numbers.
- Recognize patterns in number sequences.
- Recognize odd and even numbers.
Build upon Place Value concepts
Addition and Subtraction
Addition and Subtraction of Numbers up to 1000
- Use the addition symbol (+) and subtraction symbol (–) to write a mathematical statement for a given situation.
- Add and subtract numbers using algorithms (up to 3 digits)
- Solve 2-step word problems involving addition and subtraction.
- Carry out mental calculation involving addition and subtraction of a 3-digit and ones/tens/hundreds.
Concepts of addition
-Putting together
-Adding on
-Part-whole

Multiplication and Division
- Use the multiplication symbol (x) to write a mathematical statement for a given situation.
- Use the division symbol (÷) to write a mathematical statement for a given situation.
- Understand the relationship between multiplication and division.
- Multiply and divide within 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 multiplication tables.
- Solve 1-step word problems involving multiplication and division within the multiplication tables.
- Carry out mental calculation multiplication and division within 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 multiplication tables.
Reinforce Concept of Multiplication
as Repeated Addition
Multiplication& Division Word Problem : 1 -step
Fraction
- Recognise fraction as part of a whole
- Use notation and representations of fractions
-Compare and order fractions with denominations of given fractions no exceeding 12 (unit fractions and like fractions)
Addition and Subtraction of Fraction
- Add and Subtract like fractions within one whole with denominations of given fractions not exceeding 12
Subtraction of like fraction
Addition of like fraction
Money
- Count the amount of money in cents and dollars.
- Read and write money in decimals notations.
- Compare two or three amount of money.
- Converting an amount of money in decimals notation to cents only, and vice versa
- Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of amounts of money. of money in dollars only or in cents only.
Word Problems (Money) Compare (Money)
Length, Mass and Volume
- Measure length in metres/ centimetres, mass in
kilograms/grams and volume of liquid in litres
- Measure and drawing a line segment to the nearest cm
- Use appropriate units of measurement and their abbreviations
cm, m, g, kg, ℓ.
- Compare and order lengths, masses and volumes.
-Solve word problems involving length/mass/volume.
Time
- Tell time to 5 minutes.
- Use of ‘a.m.’ and ‘p.m.’
- Use of abbreviations h and min.
- Draw hands on the clock face to show time.
- Tell duration of one hour/ half
It is important for students to
relate and talk
about “time” relevant to their
everyday
experiences and events of
the day.
