    Achievement - Drop-out Student Return to School

    Drop-out students returned to school : 479 drop out primary school students returned to school (270 boys & 209 girls)

    44 drop out SSK students returned to school (29 boys & 15 girls)

    177 drop out students returned to school (97 boys & 80 girls)

    Restoration of Mid-day Meal :

    Utensils have been restored in 40 SSKs and 156 Primary Schools. MDM isgoing on in 135 Primary Schools out of 160, and in 40 SSKs

    Awareness generation and sensitisation : Demonstration of ORS, hand washing, use of safe drinking water, hygiene

    education and practices, sanitation education, etc. have been organised in 240

    schools covering 42247 students and teachers

    The WES facilities have been improved (11 STB in SSK and 74 STB in Primary

    School have been newly constructed in collaboration with RSM).

    Drop-out Children returned to AWC etc : 236 drop out children returned to AWWs (131 boys and 105 girls)

    All eligible children and pregnant and lactating mothers have been enrolled.The enrolled process is continuing

    Temporary laboratory with minimum equipments has been established atRupayan

    1338 drinking water sources tested by using H2S strip

    Significant observation

    Communities are coming forward to test the drinking watersource at their own

    Gram Panchayats are coming forward to repair the

    platform of the hand pumps

    Gram Panchayats are gradually putting more importanceon raising the platform of tube-wells

    At present newly sunk tube-well is handed over to

    community for using after testing of water sample whether

    it is safe or not

    Students of Kumirmari High School have come forward

    and contributed to have sanitation facilities at their own

    school

    Lesson Learned

    Overall understanding and community perception on WATER

    and SANITATION towards Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) to bedeveloped

    Capacity building of a selected task force group with developed

    knowledge and understanding on public health threats in

    emergencies and its critical linkages with DRR

    Adequate access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and

    good hygiene practices-as part of comprehensive mitigation

    tool in DRR to be provided

    Toilet platform at low lying areas to be raised

    Installation of community toilets at high lands / public places

    Raising the platform of hand pumps

    Renovation of piped water supply system.

    Rainwater harvesting in the non-tube-well zone particularly in 4

    Gram Panchayats to be introduced

    Low cost flood-resistant design to be developed for construction

    of dwelling house and school building cum shelter

    Livelihood development / income generation programme to be

    undertaken for protecting the drop out and trafficking of

    adolescents

    Traditional mangrove forestation in the riverside to be undertaken

    for protection of soil erosion as well as river embankment

    Land shaping for multi-crop to be promoted

    Coordination among all stakeholders to be established

    An integrated DRR plan to be developed and materialized at

    Gram Panchayats and Block

    Livelihood problem is the main challenge at present

    Drop-out students returned to school

    Time constraint for sensitization of line departments for

    restoration of facilities in educational institutions

    Cooperation from the block administration is not up to the

    mark for restoration of WES facilities in schools under TSC No fund for TLM in educational institutions

    Effectiveness of Anganwadi Centres

    Line department is not extending cooperation

    Line department is not extending cooperation for growthchart monitoring to identify SAM and MAM

    No own place for installation of WES facilities in AWCs

    Time constraint for planning and implementation for

    installation of WES facilities (minimum temporary toilet

    facilities) in AWCs and also fund constraint
