  • STANDARD THERMOMETERS

    FOR MECHANICAL USES

HESE THERMOMETERS are constructed with extensions of various lengths, with the lamina or working part of the instrument at the extreme endof the extension farthest away from the case, so that the lamina may

be put through the shell of the boiler, the side of the oven, or the wall of thekiln, through a hole drilled for that purpose, to allow the extension to projectinto liquid or hot or cold air contained therein, and giving the temperature of thesame, indicating it on the dial on the outside.

The instruments are held in place by substantial screw-joints of regular pipethread size, so that the threads may be cut through the boiler, etc., by regular

taps; and when the instrument is screwed in position it is a permanent part of theboiler itself, and a perfectly tight joint is made around the stem of the instrument.

In ordering these instruments it is well to give the thickness of the wall orthe shell of the boiler or side of the kiln through which the extension must pass;as in all cases, to get good results from the thermometer, it is necessary to placethe lamina well on the inside clear of the wail.

The expansion and contraction of metal is the same length for each degreethroughout all ranges of temperature. This fact has been established by carefulscientific research, and enables the maker to put forth thermometers that can bedepended. upon for accuracy throughout the entire scale for which they are adjusted.

In this line instruments are shown adapted to use in all places where ther-mometers are needed.

The particular advantages of the standard dial thermometers over the mercurycolumn instruments, are their accwacy after long continued use.

The ease with which these thermometers are read at a distance, enables aperson in charge to see at a glance just what temperature is being carried in the

heaters or boilers at any time without the necessity of going across the room tolook at the dial. This saves many steps and hours of work in time. Theseinstruments can be easily repaired if damaged, and are therefore much cheaper tothe consumer than the mercury column instruments, for if they are damaged at allthey are worthless and beyond repair.

In ordering these instruments for special purposes, please state if they are tobe used in brine or ammonia, and if under pressure, how much; so that they maybe furnished made of suitable metal to withstand the action of the brine or ammoniaand pressure. Also whether they are to be used in a wet or dry temperature.

All extensions are reckoned from the end of screw thread to the outside of thelamina cover. For extensions over six inches in length, add $o.5o per inch tolist price.

Care must be taken in fitting these instruments into place to use a rvrencl-r.Never turn them into place by the frame.

All prices are F. O. B., Peabody, Mass. Freight or express.
