YORKTOWN BEFORE AND AFTER Yorktown Before and After was created by Yorktown Parents, with Yorktown parents in mind. Owner/Director Joe DaRonco is a lifelong Yorktown resident and
graduate of Yorktown High School. Raising his own family in Yorktown, he is a father of two with over 10 years’ experience in child care directing camps, in-structing children’s sports classes and kid's birthday parties. He worked at Club Fit for over 20 years gaining a knowledge of customer service, hospitality, and kid’s programming as the Sports Director while winning a Best of Westchester award for best children’s sports programming.
I have seen programs in similar athletic environments succeed in other districts and I’m passionate about encouraging a healthy lifestyle at a young age. After speaking with many parents, I realized a need for help in caring for children before and after school here in Yorktown. At Yorktown Before and After, we recognize the need for movement and structured play among children. We want to keep kids active while accommodating the working parent's need for care during scheduled school days. Children will also have the chance to do quieter activities.
Our business is based out of Solaris Sports on Veterans Rd. We are a licensed School Age Child Care program and will service grades K-8. Bussing to and from the facility is provided through the Yorktown School District.
I have a lot of respect for the other child care programs in the area and hope we will be around serving the community as long as they have. I think our differenti-ator is being dedicated to the K-8 age group as well as being located in a facility with space for a variety of physical activity.
During these difficult times, we are taking steps required by the Office of Children and Family Services to modify our activities so that we minimize the spread of germs while still providing a fun and safe environment for the children.

NEWLY RENOVATED YORKTOWN HEIGHTS TRAIN STATION Supervisor Matt Slater and town officials cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Yorktown Heights Train Station on Tuesday, July 7.
The $467,000 restoration of the former train station at Railroad Park preserved the original depot, which is the only one of its kind along the route of the former New York and Northern Railway that has not been significantly altered since it was built in 1877.
The Town plans to use the station as an information center and refreshment stand for park and trailway patrons.

Bring help and hope to people fighting breast
and ovarian cancer by participating in Support
Connection’s Annual Support-A-Walk for Breast
and Ovarian Cancer on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020.
Each year, thousands of people take part in this
uplifting community event. Many participants

for people affected by breast and ovarian cancer.
This year the Support-A-Walk has a new theme:
Walk With Us, Wherever You Are. Even though
we can’t gather by the thousands in the park, we
can still walk together and work together for a
common cause. Walk on your own or with family
and friends. Where you walk, the distance you
walk, and the amount of time you spend
walking, are all up to you. If you have family and
friends in other places, they can walk wherever
they are too!
There are many ways you can help!
• Form a Walk Team
• Collect donations and walk on your own
• Raise funds online by asking family, friends
and others to donate

GUIDING EYES FOR THE BLIND is a Yorktown based, non-profit organization, that cares deeply about its mission - to provide guide dogs to people with vision loss. It takes a community of hundreds of dedicated staff and volunteers working together to breed, raise, train and care for these dogs that bring independence and mobility to the visually impaired. Throughout the recent public health crisis, Guiding Eyes has continued to modify daily operations and rely on the many generous volunteers that provide a helping hand. The call for support to our local community continues as a new program is launched – the Home Foster Program.
We are looking for caring, local individuals who would welcome one of our exceptional guide dogs-in-training into their homes. Home Fosters reduce the dog’s kennel time by providing a safe and loving home environment. Of course, guide dogs-in-training need to do just that – train with our qualified Guide Dog Mobility Instructors. Home Fosters will transport the dog to the Yorktown campus, Monday-Friday during the hours of 7:00am-9:00am and pick the dog up each day, between 4:30pm-6:30pm. We ask that participants commit to providing a loving home, evenings and weekends, for a period of 2 to 4 months. Along the way, there will be opportunities to learn basic dog behavior and training from our GDMIs. Veterinary care, food and supplies are provided.
We hope you will consider joining our family of volunteers. Please visit GuidingEyes.org, for an online application, or reach out to [email protected]. Feel the satisfaction of knowing that the guide dog-in-training you foster in your home will bring independence, confidence, companionship and freedom, to a blind or visually impaired person, free of charge. If unable to volunteer in one of our programs at this time, please consider making a do-nation to support this important mission.

Benefits of New Mover Marketing
• Grow your business by connecting with new movers in your area before your competition.

• With the average business needing to replace about 20% of its customer base that move away in any given year, marketing to the new mover should be your number one strategy.

GOLDFISH SWIM SCHOOL – Yorktown Heights is OPEN! Safer. Stronger. Together. ™
Local Swim School Welcomes Community Back to the Pool Just in Time for Summer Water Safety
With approval from the state of New York and the Westchester Department of Health, Goldfish Swim School is pleased to announce they are o-fish-ally swimming again!
As Goldfish welcomes the community back to the pool, the safety and wellbeing of students, guests and their team remains its top priority. Goldfish has been working closely with the CDC to ensure the safest environment possible, notably with widened lanes, smaller class sizes, the use of PPE and routine sanitization procedures. A full list of the safety policies can be found on their website.
As drowning remains the number one cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1 to 4, taking the lives of three children in the United States every day, Goldfish is committed to making a positive impact to help lower these stagger-ing statistics. The school offers a wide range of swim lessons and water safety instruction to infants and children ages four months to 12 years, utilizing the school’s renowned proprietary curriculum, The Science of SwimPlay®, which helps to build life skills both in and out of the water using play-based learn-ing in a fun and safe environment. Goldfish is also offering weekly Jump Start Clinics. These are four-day clinics that focus on technique and safety skills.
“Our greatest joy is sharing our mission to inspire the love of swimming and water safety, all while uniting our community and giving kids the platform to make waves in life,” said owners Gillian and Will Graves. “We are so happy to welcome our community back to the pool and continue to help kids in becoming safer in and around the water.”

July 2020 has proven to be a very interesting time in our country’s history.
Although many businesses have been proudly able to open their doors, we have persevered through a unique reopening experience and this Chamber proudly continues to lead from the front. In fact, and just the other day a momentous occasion was had right out in front of Town Hall whereby the current elected officials announced a marketing campaign like none other.
The marketing campaign spearheaded by Thompson & Bender is unique that it seeks to attract people and businesses from the downstate areas to Yorktown. The timing is spectacular because it coincides with another unprecedented event, that of an exodus from more heavily populated downstate areas especially crowded areas like Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and of course The Bronx.
The Yorktown Chamber has played a significant role in what is now called “Destination Y” and we will continue to serve this town with passion and resolve. I cannot think of a better place to relocate your home or business than Yorktown and the “Destination Y” campaign echoes that sentiment.
This Campaign coupled with the most significant business centric legislation ever passed in Yorktown will formulate a perfect marriage of marketing and business friendly policies. I am referring to the Overlay District initiatives set forth, once again, by a very proactive town board. These overlay districts will allow our town officials to craft and mold our downtown areas, they will also allow Yorktown to have “shovel ready” projects prepared and lying in wait for the would-be developer. Of course, this town board is also very aware of the preservation aspect and have always proceeded with caution.
These two grand initiatives will put Yorktown back on the map and will clear a cautious and appropriate path for smart development which will raise our commercial tax base and establish Yorktown as a truly business friendly place who is “#Open for Business!”
Next, we have begun the planning of our Yorktown Festival & Street Fair. At the Chamber we are aware of the current COVID related mandates. This Fair will be different than our previous 11 but will be safe and fun as we take appropriate actions to ensure the safety for all. This Street Fair is still in planning and we are offering refunds to all vendors if the Street Fair is cancelled due to Covid19 related issues so please call our office at 914-245-4599 and sign up as a vendor today!
We have also had several grand openings as of late. I am happy to say that Yorktown is thriving despite the many Covid19 related setbacks. We are a strong town and a strong people. As such I would like to welcome our new members: UBS Wealth Management Americas, All Cohen, The Mailbox Store of Westchester, Raze Services, Discover Sunmark, Peter Pratt’s Inn, Jewel of Himalaya Restaurant, Northeast Dental, Yorktown Before and After.
The Yorktown Chamber of Commerce is here to help, promote and watch your business and this town succeed and prosper. As your premier business advocates, we stand ready, consider joining today!
As always, stay safe and be well!
