As Greek Orthodox Christians, we have a special place in our hearts for the Blessed Mother. She has protected the Orthodox Faith from destruction from the enemy. She has helped many times to en- lighten the world and to protect Holy Or- thodoxy. The period of the Fast of Panagia (Au- gust 1-15), sometimes referred to as the “Summer Lent”, reminds us of all these things about the Panagia. During the Sup- plication Services, the Paraklesis we pour out our hearts and cry out for help, we convey our pain and anguish because we consider her to be our spiritual mother. The Blessed Mother hears all our prayers and comes to our aid. She makes only one request, and asks us for only one supplication to be granted: “I know that you want me to grant you your supplications and answer your prayers, but I ask one thing of you, Please listen to my Son and do what He tells you in your heart and you will find salvation.” Let us all hear and follow the Virgin Mary’s request. This is the message of the first fifteen days of August. The Virgin Mary raises all of humanity upwards, but especially she raises womanhood up to the honor it has and deserves. All women have a special relationship with the Blessed Mother, because they share in womanhood. May this special relationship help all of mankind to come to the knowledge of the truth about God and to worship Him with all their hearts and souls. 50th ANNIVERSARY ALBUMYES……there will be a completed

50th Anniversary Album. Please accept my apologies for the delay,

which was due in part to our former sales repfrom Lifetouch who did not inform us fromthe beginning in which program to set up thebook layout. Therefore, we had to go backand re-enter all the information in the com-patible program.

Second, my full time work and myfamily’s schedule also played a role in thedelay of the printing of the Album. I wascoming home too late to run up to thechurch to finish this project. Thus, I tried tofinish the corrections on my home com-puter. My biggest fault is that of being aperfectionist. If something didn’t appearright, I would go back again and again to getit right. I wanted to make sure all aspects ofour Church life’s first 50 years were show-cased. That made it hard for me to delegate.

Again, my deepest apologies to all of youwho ordered an album or bought a dedica-tion page in the album or just simply ex-pressed an interest.

With God’s blessings, you will have ahard copy of this beautiful anniversary al-bum in your hands by October 2006.

FROM THE SAINT NICHOLAS GREEK FOLK FESTIVAL 2006To our Community:It is our esteem honor to have served as fes-tival chairpersons this year.  Since our ap-pointment in September, we have seen thebest of our community, rallying together forthe well being of our Church, the advance-ment of our culture, and the future of ourfaith.  We thank all those who helped us withmaking the festival a success. Thank you.Of course, the Greek Folk Festival could notoccur each year without the volunteers inthe kitchens, food lines, booths, and else-where who tirelessly sacrifice so much forour community.  They are the backbone ofthis Festival and this Church.  We cannotforget the one who keeps us in line, ourchurch secretary, Ms. Maria Salpeas. As thebook of James reminds us “it is not enoughjust to have faith. Faith that does not showitself by good deeds is no faith at all.”  Thegood deeds abound, and we are forevergrateful for the selfless service of St. Nicho-las’ committed volunteers.  This years firstplace winner of the fifteen thousand dollarprize that was won by Mr. Peter Angeloswas donated back to our church. We wouldlike to send a special thank you to him.Again, many thanks to everyone for yoursupport of the Greek Folk Festival and St.Nicholas.  God bless.

Very truly yours,Antonia Stavrakis & Christine Zervos
