Engraved Love:A courageous attempt by Katy

On this Sunday afternoon I was invited to the first screening

ceremony of the movie Engraved Love by the producer and

director Ms Katy Dai. As pointed out by Mr, Chap Chow

though that this is not the first movie produced by Chinese

in Australia, I still found it very encouraging and appreciative

to see the accomplishment of this movie.

Throughout her stay in Australia for over 20 years, Katy has

been very productive in the arena of media and creative arts

including the compilation of movie scripts. Her novel with

the same title talked about the love story of an overseas

student. Working together with her two daughters, for more

than three past years, she has been committed to turn

her novel into a movie through the setting up of a movie

enterprise, organising the resource, staring, marketing

as well as taking on the director role. I really admire her

dedication, tireless effort and perseverance, enduring all

difficulties without stepping back. Not many quality movies

can have good market, and it is really hard for a movie

about the love story of a Chinese overseas student to

win popularity in the Australia market. Nonetheless Katy

has been so determined and passionate in offering her

everything into the production of this movie.

The movie itself is not a big deal, and so are the participating

actors. For some unknown reasons, as revealed during the

first screening, there were still some unfinished jobs to be

done on the audio and visual effect. Yet what impressed

me was Katy s profound input into the accomplishment of

the movie. I learned from Katy s blog all the obstacles and

criticisms she had encountered throughout the production

process and how she eventually combated till the task was

done.

Producing a movie is just as hard as publishing a magazine.

The accomplishment can be very satisfying to every

member of the production team. Katy has portrayed her

care and blessing on overseas students through her movie.

Its main character was an ill-fated overseas student who

was blessed by others at her darkest stage of her life which

allowed her to become a triumphant fashion designer and

to discover her hidden lover. This sort of fairy tale ending

may seem to be too perfect to be true in reality; Katy s

message on her blessing to overseas students however is

undoubtedly true and clear.

Thank Katy for caring our overseas students.
