GTiPoloGone are the days of an overprized Polo, the new Polo GTi is the best light car you can buy in Australia. In fact, it is the world car of the year for 2010.
The styling of the new Polo is excellent. It is a brand new design that helps to make it looks bigger and trendier. The smart grille and headlights helps to express its funkiness. I think no one will object it. Some would say it looks even better than the Golf, as you know Golf has already grown into various body shapes such as wagon, sedan and even small delivery van like the Caddy. Hence, Polo may just be the right representation of light car that only offers three doors or five doors hatch variant.
The Polo GTi is a musky car with a lot of punches. It has a 1.4 litre TSI engine (that is turbo charge and supercharging) plus an almost state of the art 7 speed dual clutch DSG gearbox. The extra gear ratio on the 7th gear plus the most sophisticated twin charge engine, promised to give the owner, a mere
6.1 litres per 100 km with an incredible 132 kW of power on offer. But fuel consumption is reduced from 8.0 litre with a whopping savings of 1.9 litre of premium unleaded petrol, thanks to the twin charge engine and the DSG gear box. Although it is running on premium unleaded fuel, that might cost you a tiny more, it worth every drop of it.
Transferring its performance into second and speed, it is 0-100 km in just 6.9 seconds which makes it dashing into the boy racer territory. This economy is matched by highly dynamic driving performance. Apart from the twin charge engine and 7 speed DSG gear box, the weight of the light Polo GTi of just 1,189 kg also play an important part in making it to the fast car arena by the weight to power ratio.
The massive 132 kW of power is well looked after by an electronic transverse differential lock, that helps the car to behave as it should be. Understeer and

demanding manoeuvrer such as tight cornering on windy country road are well under control, but a keen driver will still able to enjoy what the car has to offer. It is dynamic and fun. It is still powered by the front wheels via the standard but highly acclaimed 7 speed DSG dual clutch automatic gear box. If you like the manual override, it is fun with sharp and speedy response for engine brake or kick down over taking.
When driving the Polo GTi, it is a neat, skippy little that dart along city and country road. The feel of driving is well transferred from its electro-hydraulic power steering. It is neither heavy nor light, but I would say just right with a well weighted feel. The U turn performance is good, because of its tight turning characteristic, thus making any city parking a breeze.
In terms of safety, it has all the gears such as ABS and standard ESP which includes Hill Start Assist. It also has six airbags including, front, side and curtain. Seat belts are also including pre-tensioners with load limiters that make it more efficient. In addition, a belt warning system will alarm the driver should any passengers accidentally forget to put on their seat belts on.
My observation, the Polo has evolved from a basic light car into something meaningful, especially the Polo GTi. The body built quality is solid and doesn’t’ make you feel anything otherwise. The suspension is well balanced, The overall packaging of a light car can be head turning with its bi-xenon headlights packed with cornering lights with extra thoughtfulness and convenience in the dark. While during the day time, It comes with LED daytime running and marker lights. Last but not the least, the GTi features with its acclaimed sport seats and 17-inches alloy wheels for making a different to the normal model.

Hence, undoubtedly, it has gained a lot of support from VW’s supporters for value for quality and its Germany engineering heritage.
