Brief:To create a design to convey a full Christmas advent calendar of offers. Our team did a group brainstorming session, and having reviewed the requested assets for the campaign, which included window vinyls and a tall cardboard stand, I suggested creating some selfie opportunities.

These "Elfies" would create a great opportunity for social media exposure for Mecca, as the customers could be offered a prize for sharing the best Elfie pictures online. There are also party bookings in Mecca clubs, and photo booths, Santa hats etc are very popular at Christmas parties.

Christmas "Elfies"Client:Mecca Bingo (Part of the Rank Group)

Outcome:I suggested that we could create 2 sets of window vinyls, the costume parts (Santa hats, elf hats, reindeer antlers and red nose) and the call to action sticker below them which lets them know how to enter the competition. I suggested that as well as placing them on the doors, we could place them on the mirrors in the bathrooms, where women touching up their hair and make-up are likely to stop for selfies already. Here are some mockups I created to support the suggestion, which were met with much enthusiasm from the Mecca marketing team.

Here is the lifesize cardboard "standee" which would be stood in club, ready for Mecca customers to take "Elfies".Here is the newspaper advert, which had a face that could be cut out, so that the page became a selfie opportunity.

Brief:The brief was to design a concept for a Wild West themed night, there would be dressing up competitions in some of the clubs, and themed prizes. We can’t show people in our new branding, so I had to find a way to show costumes that didn’t show people.

Wild West NightClient:Mecca Bingo (Part of the Rank Group)

Outcome:The way I got around it was my idea to show the dressing up using a finger with a cowboy hat and a drawn on face. Which is very much in tune with our new brand, which is full of smiles and getting across small visual jokes to make you smile. Below are some examples of the print work I created for this.

Brief:To create a design a set of landing pages to accompany the digital Christmas Advent promotion.

Christmas Advent Landing PagesClient:Mecca Bingo (Part of the Rank Group)

Outcome:I created the set of landing pages in 3 sizes, desktop, tablet and mobile, below shows how the pages show on three different devices.

Brief:The brief was for an overarching design for April 2016, which would convey the message "Take a fresh look at Mecca" which summarised the many improvements being made across the board, from improvements to gaming in club, new games online, as well as new new food and drink menus in club. It was a cross-channel promotion, retail (bingo clubs), digital assets for the website, as well as the apps and social media. The design would have to be adaptable, it would be the theme for most of the promotions for that month. The design needed to be "Fresh, fun and engaging".

Take a fresh look at MeccaClient:Mecca Bingo (Part of the Rank Group)

Outcome:The idea needed to be a bit abstract, as we weren’t allowed to show the clubs or games etc, so I designed the concept around glasses, and the idea was that the glasses could themselves be a vessel for design elements, as well as using the view in the glasses and a plain background to draw your attention to the view in the glasses. Although the concept was mine, the design was finished by the Lead Creative, as I had other tasks to work on when the feedback returned from the first concepts.

On the right is one of the promotions which was under the months theme, which I also designed, as featured in clubs..

Brief:The AC Academy is a charity that runs a wide range of music and arts education projects across the UK, helping 15,000 children per year. They posted online asking for designers to propose logo ideas to them, they asked for the logo to be colourful and they had given logo examples they liked which mostly used illustration alongside text. As the AC is a charity section of a music hall, they wanted it to fit the rest of their branding.

AC AcademyClient:AC Academy

Outcome:The idea behind my logo design was to make the logo in keeping with their current branding, but also to show creativity and humanisation through the coloured lines, which represent the creative charity work they do. The C becomes a mouth and the brush strokes and notes are singing pouring out. Below are examples to show it in one colour which may sometimes be necessary on small print items and on a T-shirt as they mentioned it would be used on T-shirts. This is a proposed design, as far as I’m aware no logo has been chosen yet.

Brief:The brief was to redesign the logos for 2 Bingo games which are played in the break between main games in club. The players have a board on the table and need to make a line across the board to win, (a little like bingo noughts and crosses). The main difference between the games is the Richest Link game has higher win amounts as it is played live between many clubs, rather than in one only. The logos needed to work well in black and white and remain readable at small scale, print and digital.

Cashline and Richest Link logosClient:Mecca Bingo (Part of the Rank Group)

Outcome:I started by finding out what I could about the games and brainstorming elements to include, then sketched out ideas. I then picked the strongest to start creating on Illustrator, and chose the best to show to the stakeholders. As the aim of the games is to make links or lines across the boards, I tried to incorporate that into the logo, I tried to get a feeling of movement into the designs, and in a few, I used cash or icons of wealth. Below is a mockup of how the logos would appear on screen in-club.

Brief:This is a 4-sided card mailer that I designed during my time at The Rank Group. I was asked to create a new design for the mailer which was eye-catching, made the text of the offer the main element in the design, incorporated imagery of the games from the offer, and could be updated each month with a design that fitted the given theme for the month.

Mecca Bingo monthly mailerClient:Mecca Bingo (Part of the Rank Group)

Outcome:I decided to make it look as if the offers were bursting out from inside the card, it gave me a good way to incorporate the game imagery, and make the design eye-catching. Below are some examples of the different monthly versions I created.

Brief:This was my entry to a Threadless competition, the brief was "Make Your Statement", a design for their Type Tees range.

Hugs are the cureClient:Threadless

Outcome:Sometimes you just need a hug. One day I said to someone, hugs are the cure, no matter what’s wrong. I started doodling this idea where the letters hugged each other, and this design came out of it! I made a calendar month from it in 2012, and then to submitted it to the Threadless competition, unfortunately it didn’t win.

Brief:This was a test project for Scaramouche + Fandango, a premium mens grooming and cosmetics company. I was asked to create 2 sizes of posters to be displayed on the London underground.

Scaramouche + FandangoClient:Scaramouche + Fandango

Outcome:I took on board their branding, and researched similar brands. Their branding and target audience called for a clean, minimal layout, to show their products are simple no-nonsense quality. I presented them with 2 options for each size and created mock-ups to show how the posters would look in-situ. As this was only a test project as part of the interview process, the design was never implemented.

Brief:Kudo is a new bingo and slots club brand for The Rank Group, at the time they had a logo and some brand colours, the target audience was set to be roughly 18-35, so younger than Mecca Bingo, but they had no finalised guidelines. I was asked to create a set of stationery concepts, which were dynamic, modern and suited to the target audience.

Kudo stationeryClient:Kudo (Part of the Rank Group)

Outcome:I created a range of concepts, including 2 transparent business card concepts, as I felt it would make the most of the transparent prism part of the logo, and would be memorable.

Brief:I love origami and kirigami, so I decided to use my love of paper folding to create a fun summary of my C.V, portfolio and short application. I wanted it to be fun to look at and use, I would then send it to selected design agencies, or companies I’d like to work for. As many companies wont accept printed applications only pdf’s, I also needed to make it easy for the person receiving it to assemble. The basis of the design is a really cool piece of paper folding called a tetratetraflexagon, I came across it when I was a child and have always loved making them, as it feels like magic.

Creative application & C.VClient:Personal project

Outcome:Below is the final design, which helped me to get my last job. The amazing thing about the tetratetraflexigon is that once assembled it appears to be a 2 sided piece of paper, but in fact, it has 4, which can be revealed very simply. Below are 3 of the sections, the front cover, about me section, and the simplified CV. I created all of the hand drawn type, and illustrations myeself.
