Abstract: The Novel ‘Saanthivanathu Veargal’ written by
A.Thirunavukkarasan is the tragic story of cremator Sangili. who
lives in thinnaiyadi valasai, a village in Ramanathapuram,
tamilnadu.The author takes this novel as an opportunity to bring
out the caste discrimination in the Indian society into lime light.
The caste discrimination is so transparent evidenced in most of the
scenes in the novel. The rich upper caste people like Udaiyappan,
pachaiyappan live in the car street and they impose heavy
restrictions for the entry of lower caste people in the street.
All sorts of injustices are performed on the family of sangili.
His son Karuppu is beaten, His daughter is raped and his wife is
burnt to death. But no one questions these injustices. Even the
government officials like the policemen turn deaf ear to his
complaints.
The author ironically named the central character as sangili
Which means chain. But he is nowhere found and connected in the
village chain.
This novel has explained a cremator’s sad life. while reading
this story, as a part of the society. we should be ashamed of
the

caste system that exists in our society. Still, Many low caste
peoples are falling in the problem of discrimination. The author
has
given a clear image of the life of such people in this society.
Many low caste people are being abused physically and sexually by
the people of their society. In this story the author had
explained
their suffering clearly. Finally, The author says that not only
terrorism two sharp sider. But also repression has very two sharp
sider.
