Tonic water, bottles + elbow grease are the key ingredients to a successful lighting installation. Suspended from 6 metres above the ground, over 400 carbon neutral bottles were filled with tonic water and lit up at nightfall with UV lights. The only brief requirement was to successfully install a suspended lighting. Working with extant structure and obstacles, we decided to introduce an interven-tion which would change the skyline for one day. Taking over the local neighbourhood, Surry Hills Festival uses parks, laneways and other spaces in the suburb for an annual 1 day festiv event. Gin&-Juice was selected for use in the Velvet Cave area housing over 2000 guests over the course of the event.

After a long period of turmoil, Afghanistan is

beginning its second decade of democratic gover-

nance. The emerging government has had to

manage ongoing instability while taking steps to

rebuild the nation’s infrastructure, which has been

devastated by over 30 years of conflict and neglect.

Further exacerbating these rebuilding challenges is

the geographic isolation and limited access to

resources of some parts of the country. Practicality

in construction meathods is crutial under such

conditions and a design based on prefabrication is

being proposed. The centre aims at promoting

heritage safe-guarding and cross-cultural awareness.

Bligh Apartment is an ongoing private project

involving the complete renovations of a one

bedroom flat in the Sydney area. Being an invest-

ment property, a specific brief was tailored to

maximise the targeted buyer demography.

The flat will see the removal of a partition wall in

order to promote open plan living and increased

natural light for the otherwise dark space. All

joinery is bespoke, ensuite is expanded by moving

the laundry and all kitchen appliances are

concealed.
