Secutech, the world’s biggest trade platform for HD surveillance technology, always strives to provide visitors the best purchasing experience. The Excellence Award event was perceived as one of

the highlights at Secutech 2012. Following the success of the world’s only HD cameras contest in 2011, Secutech 2012 extended its lineup from cameras to DVR/NVRs for buyers to better grasp the latest developments. Doubling the amount of entries, this event attracted 20 IP megapixel cameras, 11 HD SDI cameras, six 960H cameras, 10 NVRs and six DVRs for competition this year.

Secutech Excellence Awards 2012 were held at the 15th Secutech International Expo from April 18 to 20 in Taipei. A total of 53

entries from 33 elite manufacturers participated in this event and presented their HD surveillance solutions, at a dedicated zone, to

purchasing decision makers from renowned brands and distrib-utors/importers around the world, proving their own worth and cementing Secutech as the world’s leading platform for bringing

At the event zone, the entries were set up side-by-side for easier and better comparisons. Secutech’s orgnaizer, Messe Frankfurt New Era Business Media, commented, “Secutech Award is a much anticipated competition that helps purchasing managers quickly sort out the cream of the crop. Visitors get to objectively observe the competing products in real-life operation under a fair, preconfigured environment. By presenting the latest in security technology with live performance all in one room, this event saves the headaches of trial-and-error faced by many ODM/OEM seekers and distributors/importers.”

Testing environments were predetermined (including lighting considerations) and set up by the organizer to ensure a fair competition. During the first two days of the show, 261 international visitors examined the entries and voted for what they thought were the best. A judge panel of security consultants recommended by a&s magazines also cast their votes based on their profes-sional observations and practical considerations.

PurPoseThe main purpose of this event is to help buyers

acquire the purchasing know-how when sourcing HD surveillances and swiftly select the products which suit their needs. Sometimes, products specification and functions can’t completely reflect the product perfor-mances. During the three-day show, over 1000 visitors stopped at this event to explore the product difference and strength. Many system integrators or installers recognize the significance of this event which assists them to discover the core technology of HD surveillance and practically comprehend the differences between HD and IP surveillance.

Alf Chang, Senior Technical Consultant for a&s series publications, stressed, “This event particularly focuses on the HD streaming performance and stability of IP

megapixel cameras. At the same time, performance benchmarks and application differences, of different megapixel, HD-SDI and 960H cameras with similar or different image sensors and processors/codecs, are highlighted for visiting integrators, installers and end users for easier purchasing comparisons. For HD-SDI DVRs and embedded/client-server NVRs, the focus is on real-time viewing, recording and playback; this portion of the competition gives the audience and judges a clearer picture of what can be achieved today and what storage/architecture options might suit their own needs better.”

3 stePs to evaluating Products Performance: 1. The entries were all pretested by senior security

technical consultants of a&s Magazines, with years experiences in engineering industry and working for global security big brands.

2. The entries are publicly voted by over 10% of interna-tional visitors at Secutech 2012.

3. The entries are judged by a panel of professional security veteran including senior engineering consul-tants, chief editors of electronic magazines, electric machinery doctors who major in image processing and retired industrials who represent the third party of judges.

To ensure the fairness in this competition, the results of pre-show testing will not be released to international buyers onsite show. As for the third stage of evaluation,

the professional judges will review the entered products onsite along with considering the pre-testing result to make the final mark on April 19.

• Preshow TesTing and on-siTe seTuP for camerasAt pre-show testing, each entered camera is

respectively equipped with the lens from Tamron M13VG228IR, M14VG412 or Fujinon according to the sizes of their camera lens. All entered IP cameras will be connected by a ETHERWAN Layer3 16 Port SNMPswitch to a 10/100/1000M Base-T Layer3 network.

Performance evaluation standards for pre-show testing including: - OSD operation - Picture resolution- Color saturation- Day/Night vision quality and DNR performance- WDR/BLC or HBLC performance- Image flow(no delay or lag)- Stream bit rate controlling

The cameras will focus on moving targets for the public demonstration including two moving trains on two tracks set to run in opposite directions and fixed colorful figures. 37 entered cameras are set in the same projected distance to shoot the targeted objects. DNR, shutter speed/ exposure under low lux and white balance can be tested through adjustment of light temperature. The image quality can be reflected through adjustable light in the display area with light temperature of 5400°K by setting 6 spotlights. To test WDR/BLC performance, the light in the display area is adjustable from 200 lux to 20 lux as well turning on/off the light column of 5400°K.

IP and 960H cameras were connected to Hi Sharp HS-ML22W3 LCD monitor, while HD SDI cameras connected to HSINTEK 3G-SDI LCD monitor.

Chang emphasized, “The given default environment this year is different from the version of 2011 event. The environment is open, not enclosed; we would like to test electronic shutter, white balance, low illumination, WDR/BLC effects of entered cameras by adjustable spotlights and moving targets. The main difference of the event between this year and last year is that the picture resolution of the cameras can be tested through the setting of moving targets which run at different speeds and in opposite directions. Besides, by decorating several colorful figures in the environment, the capability of taking subtle images and adjustment to varifocal toward multiple targets can be reflected. The BLC effects can be demonstrated through totally opposite color wall setting: black and white. Finally, 2 layers of colorful figures in front of the light are set to test WLC effects.”

What make this different from the default environment for camera award are the targeted shaking head figurines to test the image capturing capability of DVR/NVR toward moving objects.

30% of the performance evaluation are subject to International buyers’ vote; 70% to judges’ and the result of pre-show testing. After judges’ hours of strong discussion, the winners are finally settled. Lanfer Yang, head of Secutech Award 2012 judge panel, said, “All entered products show excellent performance so it is quite a competitive contest. Only the best one can be chosen to be the final winners.”

One of the international visitors who had voted for this event further expressed, “Secutech Award is the most competitive contest among similar events. The EQH5202 is a 1080p HDcctv indoor box camera with true Day / Night capability. Based on a 2.1 megapixel color progressive scan CMOS sensor for 1080p resolution 100% digital images, it delivers vastly superior video quality compared to traditional CCTV images. This superior resolution not only captures more critical evidentiary information, but the inherent ability for megapixel video also extends the area of coverage, expedites completion of investigations, resolves complaints and reduces both capital and operational costs.

The EQH5202 allows flexible choices of megapixel manual & DC iris control lenses with C / CS mount for outstanding coverage in a wide range of demanding surveillance environments while delivering stunning HD image quality. No major upgrade to the IT network is required to deploy this powerful technology; HDcctv cameras communicate at digital speeds up to 1.5 Gb/s over existing or new coaxial cable (RG59 or other types for longer distances), using industry standard BNC connectors.

The Hi Sharp HD camera series offers HD 720P@60FPS and full HD 1080P@30/60FPS resolution which can be sent as high definition images over standard coaxial cable. In using an existing coaxial cable infrastructure, it is a cost effective and labour saving solution to migrate from a typical analogue system to an HD performance system that would favourably compare to a newly installed IP network camera system.

Designed to increase the cameras degree of image capture, it offers a wider area to enhance monitoring accuracy. This series of cameras adopts DC/manual (C/CS-mount) lens and performs 30x sense up on its image sensor. Each of the HD-SDI cameras has a built in removable IR-cut filter for good performance in both day and night mode. The Hi Sharp HD cameras have been designed with de-fog and mirror functions widening the range of potential applications.

The series of cameras offers a dual power (AC24V / DC12V) input to suit most power sources at different sites. The cameras can be controlled by remote controller via an RS485 interface.
