Select Team Offense: Special Plays (22 Purple and 13 Purple)
22 Purple
22 Purple: Level of Play
“22 Purple” is a simple pick-away (purple) out
of our regular “22 set”. The movements are
simple and suitable for teams at all skill levels,
and should be easy for players of any age
group to learn and understand.
•Level of Play (22 Purple)
22 Purple: Set-up
The set up for “22 Purple” is identical to our
regular “22 set” with the dodge initiating
from either one of the attack spots spots (A1
or A2), or from the midfield spots. For the
sake of explanation, we will first assume A1 is
our dodger. Then we will look at M1 as the
dodger.

22 Purple: Execution A1 Dodging
22 Purple starts like the regular 22 with an
attackman initiating a dodge from behind. On
the dodge, the two players on the crease (M3
and A3) are going to set a double screen form
the opposite midfielder (M2 in this case). On
the dodge, M3 and A3 are going to move up
the field and for a two-man “picket fence”.
Once this screen is set, M2 is going to “V-cut”
as if he is going to go “under” the screen, and
then he wants to cut hard over the top and
look to A1 for a feed.
•Execution (22 Purple A1 Dodges)
22 Purple: Execution A1 Dodging Continued
On the dodge M1 can provide an adjacent
outlet for the dodger (A1), and A2 wants to
slide over to X to provide an outlet and back-
up on any shots.

22 Purple: Execution M1 Dodging
22 Purple can be initiated with a midfield
dodge as well. On the dodge, the two players
on the crease (M3 and A3) are going to set a
double screen for the opposite attackman (A2
in this case). On the dodge, M3 and A3 are
going to to the opposite pipe and form a two-
man “picket fence”. Once this screen is set, A2
is going to “V-cut” as if he is going to go
“under” the screen, and then he wants to cut
hard over the top and look to M1 for the feed.

22 Purple: Execution M1 Dodging Continued
On the dodge M2 is going to roll over to the
middle of the field to provide an outlet for the
dodger (M1), and A1 wants to slide over to
provide an outlet for M1, while also being
aware of the need to back up any potential
shots.

22 Green: Final Thoughts
“22 Purple” is an excellent play to mix in at
various points during the game. The play can
be initiated from any of the four spots in the
22 set (M1, M2, A1 and A2). The movements
will just be the reverse of those seen here. If
the 22 Purple is successful once, the defense
tends to be ready for it, but when initiated
from different spots—and used properly—the
play can be effective on multiple occasions.

13 Purple: Level of Play
“13 Green” is a simple pick-away (purple) out
of our regular “13 set”. The movements are
simple and suitable for teams at all skill levels,
and should be easy for players of any age
group to learn and understand.
•Level of Play (13 Purple)
13 Purple: Set Up
The set up for “13 Purple” is identical to our
regular “13 set” with the play initiating with
either one of the top two midfield spots (M1
or M2). For the sake of explanation, we will
assume M1 is our dodger in this instance.

13 Green: Execution
“13 Green” starts the way our normal 13 set
would start. The dodger (in this case M1)
wants to make his move. On the dodge,
rather than follow the dodger, as he would in
a regular 13, M2 will screen down for the
midfielder on the crease. The midfielder on
the crease (M3), wants to curl up and look for
the feed. **It’s important to take into account
the strengths of the players involved. In the
following demo, M3 should probably be a left-
hand dominant player.

13 Purple: Execution A1 Dodging
22 Purple starts like the regular 22 with an
attackman initiating a dodge from behind. On
the dodge, the two players on the crease (M3
and A3) are going to set a double screen form
the opposite midfielder (M2 in this case). On
the dodge, M3 and A3 are going to move up
the field and for a two-man “picket fence”.
Once this screen is set, M2 is going to “V-cut”
as if he is going to go “under” the screen, and
then he wants to cut hard over the top and
look to A1 for a feed.
