Knox lane is the site that we are working with. It is a narrow laneway with many rubbish bins. One of Melbourne central entrance is located here, not many peopleknow about it.

In this project, we aim to aract more people to Knox Lane by pu ng some installaon. Inspired by our previous projects, we come up with some keywords which are small claim, occupaon, interacon, low budget, and encounter. Furthermore we also did some research on element brand logo which represents water, wind, fire, earth, life and nature. Next, we also did some research on element brand logo which represents water, wind, fire, earth, life and nature.

Next, we did some more research about the installaon. As we focus on aracng people around Melbourne central to the laneway andto achieve our key ideas, we decided to search on something that represent connecon such as ne ng and things that connect to natureand human senses.

Aer that we created some scenarios by making collage using images from our research. We further discussed about them and chose someof them to do experiment with.

Our experiments include making furniture from low budget materials such as milk crates and water boles, tesng with tea lights in the laneway at night, install ne ng both inside Melbourne central and out in the laneway, making some more furniture, this me using differentmaterials like bean foam in order to provide more comfort, installing some plants and tesng with a noise that would make people feel more comfortable with.

Aer many tesngs, we decided to break the wall between Knox lane and Knox place so that the Laneway would be easier to recogniseand to connect these two places together. We also installed tree with ne ng so that the net would link people from Knox place into thelaneway and to Melbourne central. In order for people to become more relax, we set up some Mp3 with pink noise and created string garden hanging from the net. In addion, we put solar power LED rope light together with the net as to brighten the site at night as wellas to aract more people. For the part of the laneway that connect to Lile Lonsdale Street, we installed vercal garden with pipe to create fresher atmosphere. For the part of the laneway that connect to Lile Lonsdale Street, we installed vercal garden with pipe to create fresher atmosphere.Last but not least, we decide to put some DIY furniture called ‘bean-teracon’ inside so that people can occupy the space and interact with it.

FURNITUREMaterial testing

Due to the weather condions outdoor, we have decided to place thefurnitue inside Melbourne Central. We aim to create a place for publicto relax and interact with and also increase the sustainability and com-fort of the furnitue. Material contucted in this experiment are peanutpackings and bean foams.

Throughout all the experiment, we chose to use bean foams and fabric to create our furniture. It is lowon brought and is able to DIY at the same me it is able to achieving sustainability and comprtness

we chose to use bean foams in this experiment because un-like peanut packing, the bean foams does not change shapewhen force is given to it. Aer tesng the beans foams thatwhere fill into DIY fabric case, we were able to achieve ourgoal.

As started above, we want to achieve a furniure that is sus- tainable and comfortable. We used recycle peanut packing to fill the DIY fabric case. Althought it was comfortable, buton the downe side it was not sustainable because the peanutpacking goes completely flat when force is given to it

2D/3D ENGAGMENT

by Katrina Lim

2D- these signs show traces of inhabitaon and how different groups of people could result in the appearance of public space.3D-the broken cloth hanger that claims the space could be easily mistaken as a 3D form of art.

2D-The formality shows the signage on the glass window ‘East Shard’ as per- manent engagement and the reflecon is not permanent and is informal.3D-Try imagining the eliminaon of the ducks from this photograph, it just shows a pile of accumulated dirty water from the rain and fallen dead leaves and earth soaked in it. by Varichaya Sae-Hng

I found it in Swanston St. the shadow of trees create beauful paerns on the street.

3D- I found the milk crates on lile Lonsdale St. I think some people can use the milk crates as chairs.

2D -Many people step on the street and they make footprints. So I edited their footprints paerns on picture of manhole. 3D-This picture causes our mind going back to the child as it is an informal example.

OCCUPATION

We played some acons on the playground. When we saw the slide it is steep slope and the sand is near it so we made some story that is going in the sea for taking a big fish aer catching fish in the river. We made box chairs, fishing tackles and small boats. Children did not understand what we do but some parents laughed. We tried to play a different way in the play ground.

-Heayoun, Jia, Katrina, Varichaya-

Creaon, interacon, relaon with space sums up our project about public occupaon. This project was undertaken in the Western Lawn, Royal Melbourne Botanical Garden. Our project was inspired by one of Neil Bunch-anan’s big art aack moments (reference below). Using the current season as our theme, we started by marking out our territory and picking up dead leaves and twigs/branches from the ground. From there, we started working on our occupaon.

This project consists of 4 parts mainly focusing on converng people’s daily behavior

within various methods of big scale.

we made use of people’s curiosity and conformity behavior in order

to change people’s convenonal visual angle.

Then, we tried to forcefully block others normal walking posture into

ducking down or walking through our raising arms.

Attention

Play the Hopscotch

We chose the Shepherd street where is near the Sydney University and we observed walking people. We felt that their walking is too bored because they did same acon without any changes. So we made base form of the game by yellow rope. Through it, we wanted to change that people do more dynamic acon.

This derive was taken place in Sydney. In the relaon to our occupaon, we followed “dead” objects around the area and highlighng thecontour of each dead thing in order to arouse the aenon and thinking about those fibred of our city environment.

Chair walkTECHNOLOGY

we used the state library as our base, we did ‘chair walk’ in front of the building which gain some curiosity stare from people around there. The materials we used for this acvity are milk crates and fake glass pads. By creang a ‘chair walk’, we were given all kinds of percepon such as interest, discomfort, unpleasant looks and curiosity from the public society. unpleasant looks and curiosity from the public society. Each person was given a chance to decide on different direcons to take on and the ‘chair walk’ ended when we ended up in a circle.

Using an umbrella in public space, create a sense of personal space. the personal spaces become a big public space.

As most people would know indoor smoking are prohibited in almost every country in the world. I remember reading from an arcle here, outdoor smoking including public parks and beaches are officially banned in New York City. As far as I know, the intenon of thecouncil was increase public health and eliminate polluon. And if this acon were to enforce in every part of the world then where can smokers enjoy their piece of cigaree?

Water Drawing

The locaon for the acvity is at the fountain near RMIT building 8. In this acvity we make use of the water from the fountain to drawon the ground to create some kind of art.

Using water and a sponge sck, we were given an opportunity to create a temporal tagging on the surface of the ground. Having the chanceto embrace our own creavity, we were able to create a sense of a personal space.
