Hexagons are my Stars
Tutorial
This Tutorial doesn´t contain any hexagon patterns. The Stars you see here are made using the
hexagons: African flower, hexagon how-to by Attic24 and an adaption of the Sunburst
Granny Square.
You can also use this Tutorial for triangles, squares and octagons. The way you do it stays the
same.
So to start a star you need to crochet 2 hexagons
of your choice. They should have the same sizeand the same number of chains on their last
row.
I will show you how to make the stars by using
the adaption of the Sunburst Granny.
Note: if you want to suff your star you will have
to do it before and while crocheting the last star
point. You can also make them unstuffed.
I didn´t stuff the African flower star. The others
are stuffed. I used a 4mm Hook and
Schachnmeyr nomotta Bravo.
My Stars are 20cm from point to point.

Round 1: You start by attaching your yarn (here red) in a corner chain space with a slip stitch.
Sc in same space then sc in every chain till you reach the next corner. Sc into the corner. That
makes 11 sc. (You can adapt this tutorial to every size you need. How is written at the end)
Now you take the second hexagon.
Insert the hook into a corner of the second hexagon. Both right side facing you!!!
Sc into this corner, sc in every chain till you reach the next corner. Sc into the corner. Flip
over one hexagon so you have them back to back. Now you will close this first round with aslip stitch into the first sc you made on the first hexagon. Now you have 22 sc.
Round 2: sc into the same chain where you made the slip stitch. Sc the next 2 sc together, sc
into the next 5 stitches, sc the next 2 sc together, sc in next sc (now you worked on 11
stiches),

sc in next sc, sc the next 2 sc together, sc into the next 5 stitches, sc the next 2 sc together, scin next sc. Now you will close this round with a slip stitch into the first sc you made in this
round. I changed colors here and made this slip stitch with the yellow color and crochet the
loose ends in.

Round 3: sc into same stitch as joining slip stitch, sc in every sc around, close round with slip
stitch in first sc made in this round. Now you have 18 sc.
Round 4: sc into same stitch as joining slip stitch. Sc the next 2 sc together, sc into the next 3
stitches, sc the next 2 sc together, sc in next sc (now you worked on 9 stiches), sc in next sc,

Sc the next 2 sc together, sc into the next 3 stitches, sc the next 2 sc together, sc in next sc.
Now you will close this round with a slip stitch into the first sc you made in this round. I
changed colors here and made this slip stitch with the red color and crochet the loose ends in.
Round 5: sc into same stitch as joining slip stitch, sc in every sc around, close round with slip
stitch in first sc made in this round. Now you have 14 sc.
Round 6: sc into same stitch as joining slip stitch. Sc the next 2 sc together, sc into the next
sc, sc the next 2 sc together, sc in next sc (now you worked on 7 stiches), sc in next sc, sc the
next 2 sc together, sc into the next sc, sc the next 2 sc together, sc in next sc. Now you willclose this round with a slip stitch into the first sc you made in this round.
I changed colors here and made this slip stitch with the yellow color and crochet the loose
ends in.
Round 7: sc into same stitch as joining slip stitch, sc in every sc around, close round with slip
stitch in first sc made in this round. Now you have 10 sc.

Round 8: sc into same stitch as joining slip stitch, sc the next 2 sc together, sc the next 2 sc
together (now you worked on 5 stiches), sc in next stitch, sc the next 2 sc together, sc the next
2 sc together. Now you will close this round with a slip stitch into the first sc you made in this
round.
I changed colors here and made this slip stitch with the red color and crochet the loose ends
in. The following rounds are all crochet in red. But if you want you can change colors again inRound 11. I did that on the Attic24 Hexagon.
Round 9: sc into same stitch as joining slip stitch, sc in every sc around, close round with slip
stitch in first sc made in this round. Now you have 6 sc.
Round 10: sc into same stitch as joining slip stitch, sc the next 2 sc together (now you worked
on 3 stiches), sc in next sc, sc the next 2 sc together.
Now you will close this round with a slip stitch into the first sc you made in this round.
Round 11: sc into same stitch as joining slip stitch, sc in every sc around, close round with
slip stitch in first sc made in this round. Now you have 4 sc.
Round 12: sc the first 2 sc together, sc the next 2 sc together, close with slip stitch. Fasten off.
I sew the last 2 sc that are left now together with the yarn before weaving it in.
Tadaaa!!! First star point finished :o)))
Now you repeat this all the way around your hexagons.
Start in the next corner chain space with Round 1. Only that you don´t have to flip one of the
hexagons over anymore because the are attached in the right way now :o)

You can easily adapt this tutorial to every size you need. You keep working:
1 Round sc in every sc
1 Round decrease 4 evenly spaced around.Till you have nothing left :o))))
If you want the star points longer you work 2 Rounds of sc and 1 Round of decreases.
On the African flower hexagon I didn´t start in a corner chain space. I started with the first sc.
That´s why the points are shorter and you can see better that it was a hexagon :o)
I hope I explained everything clear and I could help you with this Tutorial to create your own
stars.
Happy Hooking everyone :o))))
