1. GENERAL FUNCTION

In principle, the Super Trident Sewage Treatment unit comprises a tank, divided into three water tight compartments - an aeration compartment, a settling compartment, and a chlorine contact compart-ment.The incoming sewage enters the aeration compartment, where it is digested by aerobic bacteria and micro organisms which are promoted in the sewage itself by the addition of atmospheric oxygen. From the aeration compartment the sewage flows into the settling compartment where the aerobic bacteria floc, known as activated sludge, is settled out producing a clear effluent which passes through a chlo-rinator and into the chlorine contact compartment before being finally discharged.

2. OPERATION

A complete description of PREPARATION OF UNIT FOR INITIAL OPERATION can be found in the instruction manual under section 4.2 on page 4-3.

2.1 Water – System

During normal operation valve 3 and 6 have to be opened.Grey Water Waste Drains: Discharge directly over-board in accordance with I.M.O. Regulations. A limited quantity of grey water meeting I.M.O. sewage effluent standards from sources below the water line may be piped into the disinfection tank (no galley sinks, garbage disposal units or laundry).

NOTE: Sink waste, etc., should pass through a degreasing unit and solids should not be present.

2.2 Air - System

During normal operation:

• The valves No. „1“ & „2“ control the air flow to the internal air diffusers. These valves have to be completely open.• The valve No. “3” controls the air flow to the internal skimmer and has to be open app. 1/3 to give a minimum reliable liquid flow through the visual indicator pipe “A”. Skimmer air lift can empty the skimmer. Adjust valve No. “3” only when water is in skimmer tray, i.e. when being fed.• The valve No. “4” controls the air flow to the internal sludge return and has to be opened app. 1/3 to give a minimum liquid flow through the visual indicator pipe “B”. Please see detailed instruction on the Instruction Manual Section 4 OPERATION, page 4-3. This permanent sludge return has to be checked daily.

3. MAINTENANCE

You can find the complete maintenance instruction in the manual under SECTION 5 – MAINTENANCE.

3.1 Daily• Check the air supply pressure gauge reading and that activated sludge is being returned through the transparent pipes on top of the tank. The cock valve should be carefully adjusted to give the required flow (see above under 2.2 Air System).

3.2 Weekly• When in restricted areas replenish the supply of tablets in the Chlorinator.• Check the chlorine content of the effluent (See manual section 4 - Determination of Residual Chlorine Content).• Cleaning of the Grease Trap.• Coarse screen filter to be inspected and any plastic bags or other debris etc. to be removed. Access to screen is obtained through inspection cover.

3.3 Monthly• Check the content of sludge in the aeration compartment for quantity of suspended solids using the graduated cylinder supplied. Sample point detailed in the manual, drawing D7936. Fill the cylinder to 100 ml level and allow to stand for 30 minutes. If the level of the settled sludge is above the 60 ml level, the unit must be partially desludged as described in the manual, when not in restricted areas or to a shore facility.

3.4 Every 6 Months• Filter cartridges fitted to the aeration compressor need to be replaced. Check the functioning of the non-return valve fitted to the air line, if necessary.

3.5 Annually• Drain and clean all compartments of the unit and inspect and repair any damaged coating. Inspect the discharge pumps and air blowers for wear. Replace aerator air diffuser elements.• NOTE: If air pressure rises more than 0.2 bar (3 lbf/in2) above original commissioning pressure at any time, check both filter cartridges and aerators and replace if necessary.
