Once gone through the news letter one can visualize the Academic Environment of the department and institute as a whole. It characterize the continuous efforts of the department for the overall development of the students which not only focused on the Student’s Capacity building but Character building also. We believe that Excellence is not Destination but a journey and continuous amongst oneself when we are willing to work for it. Expert Lecture
On 13th March,2014, Prof. Z. Z. Painter, Gov. Engg. College,
Bhuj delivered lecture for Post Graduate students. During his
lecture, Major topics related to Distillation Column were covered.
On dt.15/4/2014 Dr. Ashit K. Das Head of Refining R&D
Centre in Reliance Industry Ltd. Jamnagar Refinery delivered an
expert lecture on topic “Sustainable Development in refining &
Petrochemical Sector” for pre-final & final year student .
This lecture was informative and encouraged. The future
technocrats to excel in refinery field. The anchoring was done by
Prof. Williams J. Koshy.
Mr. Hitesh Makwana our alumnae (Millennium Batch)
presently working as modeling and optimization expert, Shell
Technology Centre, Banglore delivered a lecture on topic
“Simulation life cycle in chemical industries” on 21st April,2014.

Departmental Activity
Department organized a Training Program on
Capacity Building for the faculties and students
during 12 -13th March 2014 sponsored by National
Productivity Council(NPC) and Ministry of
Environment and Forest(MoEF),Gandhinagar in
collaboration with Co Anchor Institute L. D. College
of Engineering, Ahmedabad. During this two day
training program experts from various fields gave
exhaustive training/lecture.

On 15 March a National a Seminar on the title
“Cost Effective And Emerging Effluent Treatment
Technologies” was organized by chemical
department . In collaboration with Biotech
Department. and Civil Department. In this seminar
Key Note speaker was Dr. K. U. Mistry, Hon.
Chairman Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB),
Gandhinagar. This program was sponsored by
Institute of Engineers(IE), Rajkot. In this seminar Dr.
C. B. Upasani, Director, Jyoti Om Chemicals, Baroda
and Shri. Vimal Chokhavatia, International
Consultant in the field of environment had delivered
lecture to the participants comprising of academic
and industrial field.

• Chemical Engineering Department held one week
Short Term Training Program (STTP) on “Recent
Advances in Separation Processes in Chemical
Engineering and Nano Technology (RASPCENT) -
2014” From 23rd to 27th June-2014
• The objectives of the program:
To focus on various advanced separation processes
involved in many scientific and engineering
applications, with increased interests in recent years.
To discuss the purification processes of products in
chemical industries and recovery of useful by-
products from waste which will ultimately lead to
cleaner production and thereby sustainable
development of nation. To discuss novel Nano
materials for applications in separation processes.
Inaugural Session:
On 23rd June, first day of the STTP, the proceedings
began with inauguration ceremony, with the
esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) D. G. Kuberkar,
Department of Physics, Saurashtra University, Chief
Guest and Key Note speaker. Hon. Chairman of VVP
Engineering College, Shri Pravinbhai Maniar was
also present along with Principal Dr. Sachin Parikh,
who delivered the welcome speech. Prof (Dr.) Piyush
Vanzara, Head,

Chemical Engineering Department, gave the
introductory speech about the schedule and key
features of the STTP. The key note address followed
the inauguration immediately. Dr. Kuberkar gave

overview of the ongoing research work in his
department.

CHEMICAL FACTS
Lightning strikes produce ozone (O3) and help
strengthen the ozone layer.
