Five years ahead it will be time to retire the Sanders69 power plant from the Metropolis power system. Because of enviromental reasons, it is impossible to build new generation in the dowtown area. As a planning engineer team for the local utility, Metropolis Light and Power (MLP), your job is to make recommendations on the construction of new lines and upgrade existing 69kV substation to accommodate 138kV as well; your purpose is to ensure that the transmission system in the MLP system is adequate for any base case or first contingency loading situation, when the Sanders69 power plant is no longer in service. Design Procedure 1. Load DesignCase2 into PowerWorld Simulator which contains the system dispatch without the Sanders69 generator. Perform an initial power flow solution to determine the initial system operating point. From this solution you should find that all the line flows and bus voltaje magnitudes are within their limits. Remember that all line MVA flows must be at or below 100% of their limit values, and all voltajes must be between 0.95 and 1.05 per unit. 2. Repeat the above analysis considering the impact of any single transmission line or transformer outage. This is known as N-1 contingency analysis. Without the Sanders69 generation this system is insecure for several contingencies – the analysisi finished with 13 violations, including at least one that has nothing to do with the power plant retirement (but it still needs to be fixed).
