소래청소년오케스트라는음악으로청소년의건전한문화의식을고취시키고

지역사회를앞장서서섬기는토론토최대규모의비영리한인청소년음악단체입니다.

2003년 소래 교회의 앙상블로 출발하여 2004년 비영리법인단체의 인가를 받아

독립했으며,음악을좋아하는청소년들이라면종교와신념에상관없이모두가함께

모이도록문을넓혔습니다.

틈틈이캐나다단체의행사와한인행사에서자원봉사연주활동을펼치며일년에

한번갖는정기연주회를통해수익금을TorontoCityMission,조이모자선교회,밀알

선교단등캐나다와한인사회봉사단체에기부해왔습니다.

앞으로도소래청소년오케스트라는여러자원봉사연주와정기연주회를통해청소년의

건전한문화의식함양과사회봉사정신을고취시켜나갈것입니다.

Sohrae Youth Orchestra is the biggest non-profit organization in Toronto consisting of Korean student volunteers, aimed to improve the cultural appreciation in adolescents and to share our musical talents with the GTA community. Sohrae Orchestra started out as an ensemble for Sohrae Presbyterian Church during Sunday worships in 2003. It soon grew to be an independent non-profit organization in 2004 with governmental approval. Our auditions are now open to all Korean students whose love for music compels them to greater lengths, regardless of religion.

Sohrae Youth Orchestra volunteer at various - Korean and Canadian-community festivals and hold annual fundraising concerts to donate all profits to charity organizations, such as Toronto City Mission. Our concerts have established themselves as an anticipated yearly celebration of musical talents, one of the biggest events in Korean-Canadian and the regional community.

음악을사랑하는우리청소년들이금년일년동안갈고닦으며준비해온모든것을오늘

저녁에여러분들과함께나누고자합니다.

소래청소년오케스트라는음악을배우는것에그치지않고,음악을통하여교양과정서를

기르게하고,단체활동을통해협력과조화를배우고,공연을통하여사회봉사를실천하며,

청소년들의건전한문화를형성하고,봉사의식를함양하고자2003년창단후13년째활동해

왔습니다.

해마다처음시작할때는힘들고어렵게느껴졌지만서로돕고격려해가며열심히

노력하여이자리까지오게되었음을생각할때우리청소년들이참으로자랑스럽습니다.

오늘의자선공연를위하여학업시간을쪼개어열심히연습하여이자리에선단원들이기에,

음악적으로는부족할지라도따뜻한마음으로꾸준히노력하는열정과성실함을칭찬해

주시고,큰박수로격려해주시기부탁합니다.

열심으로지도해주신음악선생님,물심양면으로아낌없이지원하고봉사해주신학부모님,

자원봉사자,그리고후원자여러분께감사의말씀을드립니다.

Thank you for coming to the annual Sohrae Youth Orchestra concert!Sohrae Youth Orchestra does not stop at studying musical pieces, but we strive to sophisticate the mind and teach teamwork and cooperation. Sohrae Youth Orchestra sought to enrich the North York community, help the youth develop a taste for classical music through performances and cultivate a spirit of volunteering; and our efforts have continued since its foundation 13 years ago.

We have participated in local events as well as our annual end-of-the-year fundraising concert. All our members made time to practice individually and together every week, and I am proud to commend them as valuable members of our community with endless potential. We may not be professional musicians but we have a willing heart, boundless passion and diligence. Please look kindly upon us.We are eternally grateful to the technical teachers that guided us through the music, the parents, the volunteers and the sponsors that helped us with this concert.

We’ve devoted our year to tonight’s concert. Listening carefully to each other’s playing, our performance skills improved along with our appreciation for each other.Tonight, we want to present big smiles, joy and happiness to all of you listening. Our performance is brought of laughter, tears and hard work and we hope it can bring dreams and hope to our audience. Our love for each other will grow with every hope it brings.We convey our deepest gratitude to all the technical teachers and the sponsors that sent us their love.

Thank you all for coming to SYO 15th annual concert. This year’s musical journey has been especially challenging as some repertoires we have selected are quite difficult to expect from young musicians. However I was glad to find some members come prepared for rehearsals and perform their very best without giving up. I want to thank them for showing such commitment and passion. I also want to thank all our members, teachers, parents, and committee for the wonderful year.

Throughout the past few months, it has been an amazing experience to feel the orchestra gradually coming together as a result of the dedication of every musician and the great support given by our conductor and music teachers. I have truly enjoyed the time we have spent together and it has been a privilege to be a member of this wonderful orchestra. Tonight we hope to share with everyone our great passion and love for music.

선행의본보기가되어왔습니다.

금번공연은차이코프스키의명곡,크리스마스캐롤등다양한음악과더불어,음악을

통해꿈을꾸고이웃과조화를이루고자노력하는미래의청소년들과소통하는시간이되기를

기대합니다.

끝으로,금번연주회개최를위해많은수고를아끼지않으신최명재이사장님,김고은

단장님,그리고김혁지휘자님을비롯한모든단원들에게깊은감사의말씀을드리면서,소래

It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you to the 15th Annual Concert hosted by the Sohrae Youth Orchestra.Since its establishment, the Sohrae Youth Orchestra has served as a representative for youth orchestra, providing a high standard of musical excellence and enthusiasm in the Korean-Canadian community and beyond, as well as fostering community engagement.

From the masterpiece collection of celebrated composer Tchaikovsky to a selection of Christmas Carol songs, we will be inspired by tonight’s performance through these gifted young musicians, sharing the common dream of bringing music in our society to unite hearts and to promote better community.

Lastly, I commend Chair, Mr. Myeong Jae Choi, Leader, Ms. Go Eun Kim, Conductor, Mr. Hyuk Kim and all members of the Orchestra for its tremendous achievements and contributions. Please accept my best wishes for a successful and memorable event and many prosperous years to come for the Sohrae Youth Orchestra.

음악으로 청소년의 건전한 문화의식을 고취시키고, 사회공동체봉사를 목적으로 하는

토론토최대규모의비영리한인청소년음악단체입니다.해마다소래오케스트라는한인

행사뿐아니라캐나다단체들의행사에서자원봉사연주활동을펼쳐왔으며,정기연주회를

통해얻어지는수익금은여러캐나다와한인사회봉사단체에기부하여왔습니다.이러한

소래오케스트라의모범적이고아름다운행보에격려의박수를보내는바입니다.“음악은

인생의어두운밤을비쳐주는한줄기달빛이다”라는장폴리히터의말이한층의미깊게

금일정기연주회에서김혁지휘자의지휘로연주될차이코프스키심포니5번4악장,

크리스마스캐롤등을감상하시며음악으로충만한감성을촉촉히적시는시간이되기를

본 연주회를 위하여 수고하신 최명재 이사장님과 임원 여러분들, 그리고

김혁 지휘자님 이하 70여명의 단원 여러분들의 열정에 깊은 격려의 말씀을 드리며,

I would like to express my sincere pleasure to be the 15th Annual Sohrae Youth Orchestra in this beautiful and fruitful season of the year.

Sohrae Youth Orchestra was established in 2003 as the ensemble of Sohrae Church where after it becomes the biggest nonprofit Korean youth musical group purposing to inspire youths to have cultural awareness and to promote the voluntary work for the community regardless of one’s religion. Every year, Sohrae Orchestra has been performing voluntarily in numerous events hosted by Canadian and Korean organizations. Furthermore, Sohrae Orchestra has donated all the proceeds from the annual performance to various Canadian and Korean volunteer organizations. I would like to take this opportunity to send my applause to Sohrae Orchestra for such thoughtful and outstanding moves for the community.

Tonight’s concert will be comprised of great pieces of which Tchaikovsky’s Symphony number 5, 4th movement and Christmas carols. The famous German novelist, Jean Paul Richter said “Music is moonlight in the gloomy night of life.” As Richter’s words, I hope everyone present has the beautiful and emotional arousing experience tonight.

Lastly, I would like to express my great appreciation to Chairman of the Board Choi, Myung Jae, and the board members and Conductor Kim, Hyuk and 70 orchestra members who have work hard for this concert. I wish all the best to Sohrae Orchestra. Thank you!

On behalf of the City of Toronto and 2.8 million Torontonians, I am extremely delighted to extend my sincere congratulations to all the youth showcasing their exemplary talents and great passion for instrumental music at Sohrae Youth Orchestra's 15th Annual Concert. It gives me great pleasure to commend the young musicians of Sohrae Youth Orchestra for enriching our city through their gift of music. Their on-going philanthropic hard work and unwavering dedication to musical excellence is sure to make tonight's performance a very enjoyable and a memorable one. I take this opportunity to wish the youth continued success in all their future musical endeavours. 김혁 지휘자 선생님은 2009년부터 소래 청소년 오케스트라 지휘를

맡으셨습니다. 연세대학교에서 피아노를 전공하고 독일 Heidelberg-Mannheim

국립음대와 오스트리아 Wien 시립음악원 에서 성악과 기악반주 및 오페라

음악코치를 전공하셨습니다. 개인 독주회를 비롯하여 다수의 연주와 지휘를

맡으셨으며 현재 소래청소년 오케스트라 단원들과 7년째 호흡하며 청소년 교육에

각별한 애정을 갖고 이끌어주고 계십니다. 혼신을 다하는 지휘만큼이나 뛰어난

연주곡 소개

1. 운명의 힘 서곡 ............................................................................Giuseppe Verdi

“운명의 힘” 이라는 제목이 붙어있는 이 오페라는 운명으로 얽힌 젊은 주역 세 사람이

모두 파멸하는 처절한 비극을 다루고 있다.

이 오페라에서 특히 서곡이 유명한데 주인공들의 운명을 암시하는 듯한 강렬함이 느껴져

오페라에 더욱 몰입하게 하는 오페라 서곡의 걸작이라 할 수 있다.

2. 청산에 살리라 ...............................................................................Yeon-jun Kim

청산을 통하여 세상의 번뇌와 시름에 대한 고통을 승화시킨 상징적인 곡으로 절제된

표현과 대담한 전개방식의 대비로 짧은 길이의 곡임에도 강한 인상을 남긴다.

3. Masquerade suite (가면무도회 모음곡) Waltz ...................... Aram Khachaturian

러시아의 문호 레르몬토프(Mikhail Lermontov)의 희곡 ‘가면무도회’가 1939년 무대에

올려질 때 하차투리안이 작곡한 곡 중 제1곡이 ‘Waltz’이다. 춤곡인 ‘Waltz’는 장중하면서도

우울한 일이 나타날 것 같은 신비하고 묘한 기분이 나도록 한다. 즐거운 춤곡이면서도

애잔한 감정이 짙게 드리워져 있고 즐거움 속에 슬픔과 우수가 담겨있는 명곡이다.

4. 펜잔스의 해적 서곡 ..................................................................... Arthur Sullivan

William Guilbert 대본에 Arthur Sullivan이 곡을 붙인 뮤지컬(오페레타)이다.

해적들 사이에서 일어나는 재미있는 에피소드를 다룬 코믹극인데, 극 중에 이른바 ‘patter

song’이라는 빠른 가사를 사용하여 익살미를 더한 것이 이 오페라의 특징이다.

시종일관 쉬운 멜로디로 청중들을 듣기 편하게 해주며 서곡에서 이미 그러한 즐거운

기분으로 가득 차 있다.

5. 시네마 천국 .............................................................................. Ennio Morricone

제 2차 세계대전 후에 시칠리아의 한 마을에서 영화에 빠져 어린시절을 보냈던 유명한

감독의 회고를 통해 이야기가 펼쳐진다. 인간의 성장기를 단 2시간에 완벽하게 담은

최고의 걸작이라는 찬사답게 많은이들을 눈물짓게 했던 명화이며, Ennio Morricone가

배경음악을 맡아 영화의 분위기를 한층 격조있게 해주었다.

6. A Love Until the End of Time ....................................................Lee Holdridge

Placido Domingo와 ㅡMaureen McGovern이 불러 더욱 유명해진 이 곡은 잔잔한

사랑의 멜로디로 많은 이들의 사랑을 받으며 결혼식 등에서 특히 축가로 많이 애창되고

있다.

7. 교향곡 5번 Finale ........................................................ Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky

러시아 작곡가 차이코프스키는 고전주의 음악의 완성에 크게 기여하였으며 특히 교향곡,

오페라, 발레곡 등에서 그의 음악의 진수를 맛볼 수 있다.

교향곡 5번은 그의 6곡의 교향곡 중 가장 정열적인 작품으로 인기가 높은데 특히 4악장에서

귀에 익숙한 선율이 장관을 이루며 관현악의 장중함이 전율을 느끼게 해준다.

Art performance : SooA KimSooA Kim is a multimedia artist in New York.
