Student guidelines for IHSS training classes

▪ Students must pre-register and receive confirmation that they are registered in order to attend classes. If your name is not on the attendance sheets, you are not permitted to attend the class.

▪ Students are expected to show up for classes they have registered for. Failure to inform Public Authority Services that you are unable to attend one of your classes may result in being banned from attending additional classes for one full year.

▪ Students are expected to arrive on time and stay for the entire class. If you arrive late you may not be allowed to sign in nor stay for the class. If your signature is not on the sign-in and out sheets you will not receive credit for the class.

▪ Students must behave professionally and respectfully. Your attention and participation are required to receive credit for completing the classes you have registered for.

▪ Students should never bring guests to a class. This includes children and consumers.

▪ Personal, in-class, side conversations will not be tolerated. This is disruptive to the class and the instructor.

▪ Students need to be respectful of instructors, fellow students, staff, and locations in which classes are held.

▪ Students are there to learn. If you disrupt the learning of others you may be asked to step out of the classroom.

▪ Recordings of any kind during these classes, without express permission from the instructor, are not allowed.

Series 1 Certificate Classes

Series 2 Certificate Classes

Provider Certificate Classes—Free of Charge to In-Home Supportive Services Care Providers Care providers can earn a certificate upon completion of each of the two series of classes. Classes can be completed at your own pace and in any order.

Call us at least 48 hours prior to any class you are not going to be able to attend or as soon as reasonably possible.

We have a waiting list of providers who want to get into the classes that you are registered for. You need to let us know if you cannot go to your classes so other providers will be able to fill your seat.

No-shows may lead to no classes offered in the future.

Registration Instructions Please note:

▪ Training is exclusively offered to IHSS care providers in Santa Clara County—you must be currently receiving timesheets or be active on the Public Authority Services Registry to enroll in classes. All classes are voluntary and free of charge.

▪ Care providers may register for up to 9 classes per semester.

▪ Care providers may retake classes every 3 years, or every 2 years for CPR and First Aid.

▪ You will be mailed a letter confirming your class schedule or waitlist placement. Due to the volume of registrations we are unable to provide confirmation phone calls.

▪ If you cannot attend your reserved classes you must call the Public Authority Services Training Department to cancel at least 48 hours, or as soon as reasonably possible, before your class or you may be counted as a “No-Show” and not be permitted to attend future classes.

▪ Classes with fewer than 10 care providers registered will be cancelled.

To pre-register for classes you must leave a voicemail with the following information: Please speak slowly and clearly

▪ Your first and last name ▪ The last 4 digits of your Social Security Number or entire provider ID number ▪ Your contact phone number ▪ The name, date, and location name of each of the classes for which you want to register

Follow the instructions above carefully to avoid delay in your registration. Class registration is first come, first served, so the earlier you call after the date listed in the instructions, the more likely you are to have a seat reserved for you.

If a class you request is full at the time of your registration, you will be placed on a waiting list and notified. If space becomes available in a class you are waitlisted for, you will be contacted.

All eligible IHSS care providers will receive a $25 incentive payment for each Public Authority Services certificate class they complete until the budget is exhausted for the year.

IHSS care providers are eligible to have the cost of tuition and textbooks reimbursed if they choose to take certain types of training classes outside those offered by Public Authority Services. Pre-approval is necessary.
