Background It is well acknowledged that more than 50% of all materials extracted from the earth are somehow transformed into construction materials and products. Innovation and consideration for sustainability in the selection, production, use and reuse of materials help optimize our resources, reduce wastes and protect our environment against climate change, leading to improvement of quality of life and a sustainable built environment.
The construction industry of Hong Kong is now facing a very challenging period with a significant number of huge infrastructure projects in full steam of planning and construction. Engineers and scientists have an important role to play in identifying the best material solutions in executing these projects to make our environment better. Indeed, innovation and sustainable development are the main challenges facing the construction and materials industries today.
Aiming to address these issues, this conference will gather engineers, academics and industrial professionals from both local and overseas to share and exchange their experiences, discuss the challenges we are facing, and report on the state-of-the-art and high-end research of construction materials.
ThemeThe theme of the meeting is “Construction Materials in the Next Decade: Innovation and Sustainability”. Focusing on construction materials, the event will address a wide variety of topics covering advances in high performance concrete, concrete durability assessment, building defects diagnostics and repair solutions, anti-carbonation coating solution for building maintenance, fire protection technology, weldability of stainless steel, corrosion control in concrete structures, advanced structural nano materials, etc..
Who should attend?• Engineers and professionals from Government, public
authorities, consultants, contractors and materials suppliers.
• Academics, scientists and graduates from universities, and public and private research institutions.
