The BenevolentThe Benevolent

It is Thursday, the day for the distribution of food to the poor. As we return home, the street and square before our host’s house are black with women, children

and greybeards, awaiting the portions of rice and flour that are destined for them. The work of distribution lasts for hours. Servants hand out the portions; others check and sign long lists of names. The soldiers and Bedouins from the Qe’eti

territory who accompany us gaze in dumb amazement at this lavish charitableness

extract anecdotes from travel made by D. Van Der Meulen and H. Von Wissmann who travelled to Terim in 1931.

“Hadramaut - Some of Its Mysteries Unveiled” by D. Van Der Meulen and H. Von Wissmann, printed in the Netherlands

Page 22: Spread of Islam From Hadhramaut

Sayyid Abu Bakr el-kaf of Terim has, close to it, a large piece of ground, where he has built a palatial guest-house for relations and friends travelling

to and fro between Java and Terim via esh-Shihr. El-Kaf is busy constructing a motor road from Terim to esh-Shihr, which is complete but for

the last stretch as far as the coast, a matter of three days by camel

Once, Rasullulah وسلم وآله عليه الله صلىpaid a visit at the home of Saiditinah

Fatimah عنها , الزهراء الله رضي , and beside her was Saiditinah Sofiyyah, his auntie

عنها الله عليه Rasullulah .,رضي الله صلىوسلم pronounced “ Oh Bani وآله

( descendant) Abdi Manaf, Oh Bani Abdi Mutal’lib, Of Fatimah binti Muhammad, Oh

Sofiyyah, auntie of Rasullulah, redeem yourself from Allah, there is nothing of

affluence in front of Allah, so ask from me whatever is in my possession, but

remember, on the Day of Judgement, the foremost among mankind are those with devotedness and piousness. You would

come merely to assert your family tie while others came with full of righteous deeds and

in contrast you only brought your strangulated world. When you exclaim

“ Oh Muhammad ”, I would turn my face away from you. You would then further

exclaim, “ Oh Muhammad, I am so and so” and I would answer “ with regards to your

lineage, I am fully aware but on your deed, I do not have the slightest notion. You

abandoned the Al Quran and that is the reason you lay claim on your ancestry

between you and I.
