    ThemajorinspectionisashipinspectionfortankersexecutedbyMajoroilcompaniesand itisdiffered from othership inspectionsin termsofbeingtakenbyshipownersvoluntarily.TotaketheMajor'scargo,tankerownersshouldgetapprovalsfrom Majoroilcompaniesthroughthemajorinspection.Thus,itisveryimportantforship ownerstopassthemajorinspectionbecauseitiscloselyrelated tothebusinessprofitsofshippingcompany.Inthisstudy,authortriedtounderstandthepresentstatusandproblems

    concernedwiththeexecutionofmajorinspectionandsuggesttheimprovingmeasuresforthem.To do this,authortook a questionary survey andinterview withinterestedparties,suchascrew members,personsinchargeof shipping company and inspectors,as wellas studied the relatedliterature.Theresultsofstudyareasfollows.Firstly,theMajorinspection,whichisexecuted individuallybyMajors,

    has to be unified and the unified inspection should be controlled byOCIMF,whichiscooperatedbyMajors.Secondly,toreducetheexcessiveloadofcrew membersandpersonsin

    chargeofshippingcompanyaswellastosecurethesafecargoworkson

    board,theperiodofinspectionshouldbeadjusted.Thirdly,tochangethemindofcrew membersandchiefexecutiveofficer

    ofshippingcompanyforMajorinspection,acontinuoustrainingforcrewmembersshouldbeperformedwhileanimportanceofactiveresponseforchiefexecutiveofficershouldbenoted.Fourthly,to remove the mis-understanding among interested parties,

    concerned people,speciallycrew membersshould beacquainted with therelatedinternationalregulationsaswellasimprovetheabilityforspeakingenglishandconversationskills.Lastly,toreducetheexpensesforMajorinspection,inspectionprocedure

    shouldbesimplifiedaswellascommonstandardsforinspectionandship'sequipmentsbeestablished.Fortopicsoffurtherstudyconcernedwiththisstudy,thereshouldbethe

    development of systematic responding system to Major inspection forshipping company and crew membersand the developmentofdetailedunificationprogram underOCIMFforindividualMajorinspections.
