Dear Parishioners, Thank you for your support of the Annual Catholic Appeal! Our Annual Catholic Appeal brings us together to live out our responsibility in that community of disci-pleship. By each of us joining together across the Archdiocese of Chicago, Cook and Lake Counties, we respond to Jesus words to “Come follow me.” Your pledge over six months supports parishes and schools serving financially challenged communities, it provided support for youth, young adults, and uni-versity campus ministry like at the University of Illi-nois at Chicago (UIC) where Father Pat Marshall and Fr. Peter Rapcia serve. We have been the recipient of the appeal because it supports the formation of our catechist and religious education teachers in our school, our youth ministry leaders and the training of our seminarians and dea-cons who will one day will come back to serve us. The appeal support anti-violence initiatives, activities promoting respect for life at all stages, immigration ministry, Kolbe House prison ministry at Cook Coun-ty Jail and many other Peace and Justice initiatives. It supports programs for marriage preparation, domestic violence abuse, marriage and family ministries. The Chicago Fire and Police department chaplaincies and other programs for our First Responders are recipi-ents of the appeal. These are some of the ways your donation connects us to one another in Jesus name. Together we can builds up a world of hope, peace, charity and love. No amount is too small, a gift of $50.00 or a pledge of $20.00 over six months or $120.00 is greatly appreciated! May God bless and keep you and all your loved ones! Thank you again! Father Mike Meany

Drodzy parafianie,

Pat Marshall i ks. Peter Rapcia.

Otrzymaliśmy ten apel, ponieważ wspiera on formację naszych katechetów i nauczycieli religii w naszej szkole, naszych liderów duszpasterstwa młodzieży oraz szkolenia naszych seminarzystów i diakonów, którzy pewnego dnia powrócą, aby nam służyć.

Apel ten wspiera inicjatywy antyprzemocowe, działania promujące szacunek dla życia na wszystkich etapach, duszpasterstwo imigracji, duszpasterstwo Kolbe House w więzieniu Cook County i wiele in-nych inicjatyw na rzecz pokoju i sprawiedliwości. Wspiera programy przygotowania do małżeństwa, przemocy domowej, małżeństwa i duszpasterstwa rodziny.

Razem możemy budować świat nadziei, pokoju, miłości i miłości.

Niech Bóg błogosławi was i wszystkich waszych bliskich!

Jeszcze raz dziękuję!

Ks. Mike Meany

Dear St. John Brebeuf Parishioners, Parents, and Neighbors, As you may be aware, we have been discussing the possibility of a "flag pole" cell tower on the south entrance of the school. Over the past two Thursdays, we presented to the public a first draft of the design with the proposed circle drop off by the Extended Day/GLADD en-trance. While we have heard support for this project, we became aware of some concerns from our immediate neighbors, parishioners, and school parents. The location had been selected because it was deemed as an improvement of that south en-trance. However, we have decided, after input from our stakeholders, to retrofit our existing United States flagpole on the north side of the courtyard. The equipment shed will be placed in a way to serve as a backdrop to a shrine to our Blessed Mother, thus maintaining the beauty of the space. There has been a hope for an outside grotto for several years, so this will be a win/win situation for all. ln the coming weeks, we will share with you the architectural ren-derings of the grotto. Thank you for your interest and support Fr. Mike Meany

Drodzy Parafianie, Rodzice i Sasiedzi St. John Brebeuf. W najblizszych tygodniach podzielimy sie z Panstwem wizualnymi zdjeciami i planami groty.

Dziekuje za Wasze zainteresowanie i wsparcie. Fr. Mike Meany Pastor

Ash Wednesday Announcement

This year, the largely secular celebration of Val-entine’s Day (February 14) coincides with Ash Wednesday and some have inquired if a dispen-sation from the obligations to fast and abstain from meat will be given. Catholics throughout the world recognize Ash Wednesday as the solemn beginning of a period of prayerful reflection and penance, as is evi-dent by the large number of church goers. In view of the significance of Ash Wednesday the obligation of fast and abstinence must natu-rally be the priority in the Catholic community. Valentine’s Day can appropriately be celebrated the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday which also happens to be Mardi Gras, a traditionally festive time before beginning our Lenten observance.

WE PRAY TOGETHER Did you know that the lyrics of our hymns and songs are actually beautiful prayers selected specifically for that Mass? That makes our hymnal your prayer book! If you are self-conscious about singing, participate by opening the hymnal and praying the text of the hymn as others sing. The Church encourages our full and active partici-pation in the Holy Mass. When you sing, you encourage others to do the same. Please use the hymnal!

The Marvelous Rosary Join in Rosary Prayer daily, Monday through Friday, following the 8:30AM Mass; Saturday following the 7:30AM

Mass; Sunday before the 7:30AM Mass. Praying the rosary together in front of the Blessed Sacrament gives many graces and is so peaceful.

SJB Children’s Liturgy of the Word Children's Liturgy of the Word is a worship experience geared especially for children ages 6 -10. It is a special opportunity for children to understand and appreciate Scripture at Sunday Mass. Basically, after the opening prayer (Collect) at the 10:45 a.m. English Mass and 12:30 p.m. Polish Mass, the children are invited to come forward with two adult Catechists and go to the Music Room in Church to participate in their own Liturgy of the Word. Children’s Liturgy of the Word offers an experience for children to hear Scripture in words they understand and to share their own understanding of God's word. The children return to the main parish assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We warmly invite all children in the parish to participate in the Chil-dren’s Liturgy of the Word. All parents, please encourage your children to join when a clergy invite them to come forward to hear the Good News. The Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry will continue until June of 2018. We welcome all of our children ages 6 - 10 to participate in their own Liturgy of the Word! If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Maciek Karaban at 847-966-3269. Thank you!!!

February 4-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time:

In the Gospel today, we find that Jesus would rise very early before dawn and go to a deserted place to pray and then he went out to preach and to heal.

Please pray for the poor and suffering, knowing that you are bringing the love and peace of Jesus to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.

Have you considered joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

Is there a family you know who needs assis-tance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor.

Wincentego a Paulo? Proszę zadzwon do Towarzystwa św. Wincentego a Paulo, aby wspólnie pomagać cierpiącym i biednym. Wszystkie informacje będą ściśle poufne.
