Parish Mission Statement Saint Marcellinus Parish is a welcoming community of mis-sionary disciples who gather to listen to the Word of God, to allow ourselves to be molded by Jesus and to share the Good News with others. Together we pray, celebrate the sacraments and commit ourselves to the work of evangeli-zation in order to build the Kingdom of God here and now.

Missionary Disciples in Action
¿Quién no ha escuchado la frase ‘todos estamos llamados a ser santos’? Este es un dicho común entre los cristianos, es-pecialmente los católicos, aunque muchas veces no sabemos lo que este significa. En la introducción de la exhortación Apostólica sobre el lla-mado a la santidad en el mundo actual, “Gaudete et Exsulta-te”, el Papa Francisco nos recuerda el propósito de Dios” “Él nos quiere santos y no espera que nos conformemos con una existencia mediocre, aguada, licuada. En realidad, desde las primeras páginas de la Biblia está presente, de diversas mane-ras, el llamado a la santidad. Así se lo proponía el Señor a Abraham: «Camina en mi presencia y sé perfecto» (Gn 17,1)”. Este llamado no siempre es atendido con prontitud. Ejemplo de ello es la vida de nuestros dos entrevistados: la religiosa María Luz González y el laico Javier Bravo. Ella atendió el llamado a los 7 años y él, a los 33 años. Ambos son lideres misioneros de esta parroquia. El camino de santidad de Madre Luz, como le conocemos cariñosamente en el Ministerio de Evangelización y Oración, comenzó a los siete años, cuando escucho en una capilla de su natal Monterrey una voz que le decía que debía consagrar su vida a Dios. A esa edad, ella no entendió de qué se trataba el mensaje y cuando se lo contó a su abuela, con se crió después de que fallecieran sus padres, le dijo que estaba loca. No obstante, ella no dejó de asistir a la iglesia ni de postrarse ante El San-tísimo Sacramento. Tampoco dejó de asistir a retiros ni de someter solicitudes en las pocas congregaciones de monjas que existían en aquel tiempo. A los 17 años, cuando iba a hacer la visita al Santísimo y el Santo Rosario, una mujer desconocida que estaba en la entra-da de la iglesia le ofreció ayuda para ingresar a la comunidad de Oblatas de Santa Marta, donde permaneció sirviendo por 15 años. Tras sufrir un grave accidente y sin tener las posibilidades para recuperarse en su país natal, México, decidió emigrar a Los Estados Unidos, donde inmediatamente fue aceptada en Carisma y Misiones, institución para la que trabajó por 30 años y de la cual se separó luego de recibir un nuevo mensaje de lo Alto mientras oraba en la Plaza de San Pedro en Roma: emprender una nueva misión de evangelización. Asi fue como hace 12 años, con el apoyo del Dr. Humberto Ramos, inició la formación del Instituto Secular de Misione-ros de la Divina Misericordia en St. Marcellinus, el cual pro mueve entre los laicos el compromiso de hacer vida los votos de obediencia, pobreza y castidad.
En palabras de Madre Luz, quien ahora tiene 73 años, “en esta parroquia, hemos trabajado aconsejando, evangelizando y asistiendo a las personas necesitadas, especialmente a las mujeres abusadas”. Un cambio de vida

Al preguntarle a Javier Bravo, fundador de los Misioneros de la Misericordia, sobre su caminar siguiendo el llamado a la santidad, el es tajante al responder: “Mi conversión ocurrió a los 33 años. Antes de esto, fui borracho, violento, golpeador, me quise matar y estuve hospitalizado porque me volví loco”. La vida le cambió cuando comenzó a orar guiado por un libro que le regaló su mamá, mientras estaba en el hospital. Desde entonces, ha vivido alabando a Dios y sirviendo al prójimo, especialmente llevando comida y ropa a más de 30 iglesias y centros de recuperación de drogadictos en Tijuana y Tecate. Javier se identifica con el Apóstol Pablo, ya que en sus 31 años de vida haciendo la voluntad de Dios, ha visitado mu-chas comunidades, cárceles, asilos, centros de rehabilitación e iglesias de Estados Unidos y México. También porque se declara un incansable estudioso de la Bi-blia, un fiel orador y rezador del Santo Rosario, un infaltable asistente a la Misa diaria y un predicador efusivo, de palabra y de obra. “Me siento muy contento y agradecido con mi Padre por el cambio de vida. Ahora me declaro un borracho de Dios”, afirma. Además de recordar el modelo de santidad del santoral de este mes, donde están San Francisco de Asís, Santa Justina y Santa Teresa de Jesús; también, podemos dejarnos inspirar por estos lideres de nuestra comunidad parroquial, a quienes podemos acercarnos y de quienes podemos aprender sobre cómo amar a Dios sobre todas las cosas y al prójimo como a nosotros mismos.

LIVING IN PRAYER AND HOLINESS
Who has not heard the phrase "we are all called to be saints"? This is a common saying among Christians, espe-cially Catholics, although we often do not know what it means. In the introduction to the Apostolic exhortation on the call to holiness in today's world, "Gaudete et Exsultate", Pope Francis reminds us of God's purpose, “He wants us to be saints and not to settle for a bland and mediocre existence. The call to holiness is present in various ways from the very first pages of the Bible. We see it expressed in the Lord’s words to Abraham: “Walk before me, and be blameless” (Gen 17:1). This call is not always answered promptly. An example of this is the lives of our two interviewees: the religious sister María Luz González and the layman Javier Bravo. She answered the call at 7 years old and he, at 33 years old. They are both missionary leaders of this parish. The path of holiness of Sister Luz, founder of the Ministry of Evangelization and Prayer, began when she was seven years old, when she heard a voice in a chapel in her native Monterrey telling her that she should consecrate her life to God. At that age, she didn't understand what the message was about, and when she told her grandmother about it, she told her she was crazy. However, she did not stop attending church or kneeling before the Blessed Sacrament. Nor did she stop attending retreats or submitting applications in the few congregations of nuns that existed at that time. At the age of 17, when she was going to visit the Blessed Sacrament and to pray the Holy Rosary, an unknown wom-an who was at the entrance of the church offered her help to enter the Oblate community of Santa Martha, where he remained serving for 15 years. After suffering a serious accident and without having the chance to recover in her native country, Mexico, she decid-ed to immigrate to the United States, where she was imme-diately accepted into Carisma en Misiones, an institution where she worked for 30 years and from which she later separated after received a new message from the Highest while she was praying in St. Peter's Square in Rome. The voice said: change jobs and start a new mission of evange-lization. This is how 12 years ago, with the support of Dr. Humber-to Ramos, began the formation of the Secular Institute of Missionaries of Divine Mercy in St. Marcellinus, which promotes among the laity the commitment to live the vows of obedience, poverty, and chastity.

In the words of Sister Luz, who is now 73 years old, "in this parish, we have worked counseling, evangelizing and assisting people in need, especially abused women." A change of life When asking Javier Bravo, founder of the Missionaries of Mercy, about her journey following the call to holiness, he is blunt in answering: “My conversion occurred at the age of 33. Before this, I was drunk, violent, a hitter, I wanted to kill myself and I was hospitalized because I went cra-zy.” His life changed when he began to pray guided by a book that her mother gave her, while he was in the hospital. Since then, he has lived praising God and serving others, especially bringing food and clothing to more than 30 churches and drug recovery centers in Tijuana and Tecate. Javier identifies himself with the St. Paul the Apostle. He has being doing God's will for 31 years; during this time, he and his team visited many communities, prisons, nurs ing homes, rehabilitation centers and churches in the Unit ed States and Mexico. Also, because he declares himself a tireless student of the Bible, a faithful speaker and prayer of the Holy Rosary, an unwavering attendant at daily Mass and an effusive preacher, in word and deed. “I feel very blessed and grateful to my Father for the change of my life. Now I declare myself a drunkard of God”, he emphasized. In addition to remembering the model of sanctity of the saints for this month, where are Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Justina and Saint Teresa of Jesus; Also, we can let ourselves be inspired by these leaders of our parish com-munity, whom we can reach out to and from whom we can learn about how to love God above all things and our neighbor as ourselves.
As we begin the month of October, we are going to highlight how two mission-aries from this parish have lived their life of prayer and their call to holiness.

FR. CHRIS CORNER THANK YOU!! At the core of every Mass we celebrate is the Eucharist, the sacrament of Jesus’ Body and Blood. The Eucharist is not a mere thing but the liv-ing presence of the Risen Christ who desires to dwell in us. Eucharist is from the Greek word meaning ‘to give thanks’ and so ultimately Jesus fills our hearts with grati-tude for having received his merciful love. Celebrating Mass with you these past couple of weeks have been very fulfilling to me but I am especially grateful at all the gestures of welcome I have received and am still receiv-ing. From the many greetings and kindnesses that have been shown to me as well as the wonderful welcome pa-rade and generosity of our parish ministries, I am so blessed. I am doubly grateful that a gracious hospitality was extended to my parents when they visited last week. You have made me feel so accepted. I am excited to see what the Lord has for us and joyful to be accompanying all of you on this journey. Ευχαριστώ πολύ!
¡MIL GRACIAS! El centro de cada Misa es la celebra-ción de la Eucaristía, el sacramento del Cuerpo y la San-gre de Jesús. La Eucaristía no es una cosa sino la presen-cia viva del Cristo Resucitado que quiere habitar en no-sotros. La palabra ‘Eucaristía’ viene del griego y signifi-ca ‘dar gracias’, es decir que Jesucristo nos colma de gra-titud por haber recibido su amor misericordioso. Yo no solo he recibido mucha bendición al celebrar la Misa con ustedes estas dos semanas pasadas; sino también, sus saludos de bienvenida han tocado mi corazón profunda-mente. En muchas formas ustedes me han hecho sentir gozo y alegría de ser su párroco, ¡incluyendo los globos y el desfile de carros con superheroes! En especial quie-ro agradecerles por la hospitalidad que ofrecieron a mis padres cuando me visitaron la semana pasada. Su acep-tación para conmigo es hermosa. Yo estoy muy emocio-nado y expectante de lo que el Señor tendrá para nosotros en los años que vienen. Con gozo, ¡vámanos adelante! Ευχαριστώ πολύ!

The annual blessing of the pets is today! It takes place on Oct. 4th, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The event is at the evening, 4:00 PM, and will start with a prayer service lead by Fr. Chris, pets will then drive and line up by their owners for a “drive-by” blessing. Parishioners will be able to donate for a good cause, 30% of the donations will going to the Los Angeles Animal Services and 70% stay with the Parish to help with the impact of the pandemic. We are excited to welcome all our parishioners and four legged friends who want to participate! ¡La bendición anual de las mascotas es hoy!
