Happy Easter!
Once again the Liturgy of Easter follows the
earth in celebrating rebirth. Grace builds on
nature so we are led from the gift of flesh to
the grace of spirit in a resurrection through
Christ our Lord.
Through the disciplines of Lent, God’s grace has
brought us to a dedication and celebration of the best that is in us.
During Lent I met personally with every student in our Religious
Education program. Meeting with them is always a great joy and treat
for me. What great hope they are for all of us.
Enjoy Easter with family and friends. Even if Easter finds you in a time
of suffering, the dignity of the suffering is celebrated in the revered
words of the Risen Christ.
Thanks for your contributions to the life of our parish. I know you
appreciate what we have in our people, and in our very beautiful ba-
silica. It costs to maintain both but be glad of heart to do it.

Dear Sisters and Brothers:
It is a pleasure for me to wish you a very happy Easter and to extend to you and yours Easter
blessings.
For centuries Christians have greeted each other with the affirmation of faith: “Christ is risen,
alleluia! Indeed He is truly risen, alleluia!”
The Good News is that Jesus is risen from the dead; that new life has been won for us in Jesus, the Christ.
We need to live as women and men who know they are destined for eternal life. We are called to
live lives of holiness and service, sharing in the very mission of Jesus.
God has chosen us and sent us to be his witnesses. As his witnesses, we have been entrusted with the task of evange-
lizing the world in which we live. We are sent to radiate the person and love of Christ; to proclaim and propose His
Gospel to the world. May we always be ready to share with others the hope that is in us (cf 1 Peter 3:15).
The past seven weeks have been momentous for each of us from the surprise resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, to the
election of a Pope who chose to be called “Francis.”
Our new Holy Father immediately won our hearts by his simplicity and humility. As was Saint
Francis of Assisi who heard Jesus say to him, “Go Francis, rebuild my house,” Pope Francis, sent to rebuild God’s
Church, invites us to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, being a church for the poor.
The Diocesan Pastoral Plan which we are beginning to implement, describes for us who we want to be. As a local
church, we are “called to be a welcoming faith community, proclaiming and celebrating the Good News of Jesus
Christ.” (Pastoral Plan, p. 16) As a local church, we see ourselves as people of the Resurrection, trusting in the Spirit, in
solidarity with all of humanity, as stewards of God’s creation, with a preferential option for the poor and vulnerable,
who face the future with hope. (cf Pastoral Plan, p. 17) This sounds like it was written by Pope Francis!
Easter blessings on you and yours. You will be remembered as I celebrate at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Concep-
tion the liturgies of Holy Week, the Triduum and Easter.
Alleluia! Christ is risen, alleluia!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
+ Robert Harris

Good Friday Pontifical Collection for the Holy Land March 29, 2013 There will be a Pontifical collection for the Holy Land in support

keep of the Holy Sites and the formation of future priests. Let
us give generously and show solidarity to respond to the needs
of the Church in the land of Jesus.
Thank you.
